  • I just came here so I could learn how to dice an Onion for my bolognaise but now I can't stop laughing.

  • Did this Frenchman learn English in Italy? Wtf?

  • oh-nyo makes me cry! of laughter trolol :P

  • LMFAO OH-NYO! AHAHA :D:D:D

  • Woot!...remove da Woot! @ 1:11 lol

  • i went on a trip to montreal and ordered french onion soup when the waiter was reciting my families order to see if what he wrote down was correct he did not say

    oh-nyoh

    french canadians suck.....

  • this guy just took total advantage of this onion. poor onion

  • he's not chef jean pierre, he's inspector Clouseau

  • @Jacotte89

I wasn't saying he had a French accent, all I was saying is that whatever accent he does have, in that one sentence he just drops it and you don't hear it at all. Whatever accent it may be.

  • hes charismatic :)

  • so WHADDAWEDEDODODIS?

  • I never knew learning these things could be so entertaining

  • holy did someone notice the huge bell peppers :O

  • im giggling on how he says onion :]

  • always listen to french chef on a fat one they give the best tips

  • @harmoniousmadness an effective way to stop your self from crying is to leave the root on, cutting it will cause it to "bleed" and that is what makes a person cry when cutting an onion

  • By far the best video on this topic!

  • HOW IS HE NOT CRYING

  • Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern and Gordon Ramsay are my top favorites, but this guy's accent is fucking hilarious

  • He has such a nice accent :)

  • Is mincing and dicing the same?

  • @GymChung mincing is a very small dice

  • Better than Bourdain, better than Ramsey. This guy has shown us the light!

  • thank you very much its easy and fast i love it:-)

  • thanks now i know the best way onion were not my specialty

  • thumbs up your fav dicing is 60x2

  • That massive freakin' onion is so genetically modified I heard it screaming when he cut into it.

  • @yabbz81 Yeah I know

  • lol oh-nyoh

  • lol I love this guy, he's kinda insane, but he's awsome

  • I Love Chef Jean Pierre

    he's good...

  • I've been watching alot of how to cut onion vids for no particular reason and this is by far the best one.

  • LOL! I laughed so hard because he has such a strong comical French accent AND he's a chef. It's so stereotypical.

  • I was expecting an ad for the Magic Bullet, but no.

  • omg it's like magic when he cuts the on-nyoh...

  • He's incredible and I love when he says on-nyoh!

  • great!he is good in cutting the on-nyoh!(duh,he's a chef!hehe)

  • i like the part where he cuts the oh-nyoh

  • the wood end!

  • Thats a nice knife! Also I never cut the root out like that, so obvious..!

  • How do you do for not crying???

  • @danielmartinex

Don't rub your eyes, don't get the onion so close to your eyes. Don't rub your eyes again.

  • @EarthCore8080 But i never do that, im very careful, but i still cry like if i just had killed somebody i love, lol

  • How do you mince such a BIG onion without crying like you're at somebody's funeral!? Doesn't this thing burn his eyes?

  • @StarWoors @danielmartinex the root contains most of the gas and chemicals that makes us cry. Once you get rid of that you shouldn't have that problem

  • @chocho12321

    Thankx! :)

  • ah! he's the best!

  • Onyon..

  • Did anyone else hear him drop the accent when he said, "I'm not going to cut it" at 2:50?

  • @47Kali

As a French living in Paris, I do not recognize the French accent ! He makes an effort to say oignon more or less as in French, but I have a doubt concerning his mother tongue, maybe Italian ??? Anyway, I love his way of dicing an onion, and he very well explains the whole thing, perfectly.

  • @Jacotte89 maybe hes from quebec?

  • @Silverfire134

No Jean-Pierre, I never went to Quebec in my life. In any case, I now slice the onion as you do, and I am very grateful to you.

  • @Silverfire134

Not at all, Quebec French accent is very different. In any case, his method is excellent, and that is what matters.

  • i love the way he says oh-nyon. It makes me smile everytime :D This guy is just so likable.

  • For safety, grasp the actual blade tightly with your hands.

Profuse bleeding is expected. This is the sacrifice you make to cut your ohnyo.

  • One of the mysteries of the universe explained. Amazing how simple some things are.

  • @1bah I am not somewhat daft, I am completely daft.

  • That bloke is a legend FACT!!

  • I love this guy!!

  • "this is the tip of the the Oyn-Yon"

  • wow

  • the french shouldnt be allowed to say onion

  • @miffomizer and you shouldn't be allowed to post idiotic comments

  • @miffomizer I think they should be made to say "onion" all day, because I can't stop laughing :)

  • @miffomizer and you should get a life because you are somewhat daft.Maybe you should go to France and learn to cook,a life skill that will help instead of going to the fastfood in the malls.

  • POP! Voila.

  • ONY~IOYN

  • ONY~IOYNNN brilliant

  • I agree with most of your method.

Cut across IS necessary if you need all of the onion pieces to be equal in length.

  • I agree with you there...

  • YEAH!!!

  • OYNNYON

  • Thank you i always have a hard time with dicing Onions.

  • i love his accent!! :)

  • ohnyohn

  • Merci!!

  • i hate that when i cut and eating em and he can use the rest of it in a recipe

  • The bad thing about dicing onions is the tears that crawl down your face when you cut them.

  • I guess cooks have developed an immunity.

  • Well, I watched Food Detectives on the Food Network, and the best way to keep from crying: Chill the onions before you chop.

  • You can also cut them with a fan blowing to guide the fumes in another direction

  • Very nice. Thank you Jean Pierre, you're the best.

  • Boy, that's a big onnyuh!

  • Fantastic video! I think i'll save money by NOT buying a Nicer Dicer and instead I will learn your dicing technique.

  • The NUMBER ONE onion dicer!

  • this guy is funny :D

  • Thank you chef, I always struggled now I know how I should do it. And please ignore the negative comments; some people are so rude, they don't even show the slightest respect for people with years of experience. What a shame. Oh well.

  • i like this guy because he teaches yuo the basics as wel as the recipes. keep up the good work.

  • This chef is definitely bad ass. Of course, none of what he's saying will make a damned bit of difference if you have dull knives.

  • gorgeous. simply gorgeous.

  • Great technique, i will use it from now on. Very nice videos by the way chef. Keep them up!

  • that mince is absolutely beautiful

  • I've been trying to convince my girlfriend that there is no need to cut across the onion. If you make the first two cuts right, the layers will separate on their own. Thank you chef Pierre for proving me right.
