Alien 3 fucking because of precisely this: it didn't feature Ripley's signature attack of blowing it out the god damn air lock. Resurrection gets halfsies for at least having the final alien getting blown out into space, but, all the same, a broken window is still not an airlock.
And that is why Alien and Aliens are the only movies in the quadrilogy worth watching.

In defense of James Horner, he was only given 6 weeks to write and score the film... which ended being less when he showed up and they were still working on editing the film. 3 weeks of sitting around and then he finally was able to put pedal to the metal. 3 weeks to score a film is basically ridiculous. Horner himself said he recycled other ideas and wasn't happy with the experience.
James Cameron cut the score to hell and back again putting cues where they weren't actually meant to go. So putting all of that together it's a miracle it all worked as well as it did. ^_^;
I saw this in the movie theatres when I was 11 years old, a couple times. When Ellen came and said "Get away from her, you bitch!" the people in the movie theatre honestly stood up and cheered. It was awesome.
i've always wished the amazing score here (as it builds to a climax) could have somehow been incorporated to when Ripley is struggling to get free from the Aliens' grip and expel her into space (rather than when she is then trying to get out of the airlock). Probably wasn't really possible and is probably most effective left as-is, but yeah.
So, just out of curiosity, was it ever determined that Aliens require oxygen, or that deep space exposure will kill them? I'm just curious because it's an interesting question. If they can't, then everything's wrapped up neatly. But if they aren't killed by the vacuum of space, then you've got a Queen alien as well as a soldier alien floating about space, just waiting to encounter a planetoid or another vessel and start the process over again.
@SergeSniper Actually no need to fear. I actually read the novels and it turns out that, in spite of their seeming invulnerability, once these aliens are exposed to space they die the same as any living creature.

The airlock puller inside the actual airlock may have been an emergency puller probably used to escape the ship or when it is docked to another ship/space station. What I don't buy if that Ripley's arm didn't get ripped off its socket. Well, it is called science "fiction" for a reason. Nevertheless I love the scene as I am huge fan of Ripley!

@mrsotter19 exactly. i mean imgine the queen wasnt a lightweight but really we have no idea how much she weighs, she might weigh no more than a regular person. and she had one leg on the ladder so the weight wasnt all on her arm. well the vacuum sucks the oxygen out of the ship but its spread out over a large area and its just like standing in a wind.

It was just a few seconds.I was watching the movie "127" about a hiker who got his arm trapped under a boulder and had to cut his own arm off to escape. To me this sounds an impossibility (how to you cut through bones, cartilage, etc.?) But he did it. I think when it comes to life and death the human being is capable of anything.
Can you imagine Samus Aran fighting the queen? Samus has elimanated planets, defeated Mother Brain, Ridley, Kraid, Phantoon, all of these like ten times her size, and she's defeated all of them! All Samus has to use are the Power Bombs, Hyper Beam/Charge Beam/Ice Beam, have her Varia/Gravity suit on and the Power Missiles, and the Alien Queen is toast!!
I remember watching this opening night back in 1986 when I was a kid. When Ripley said the bitch line the theatre went nuts, people started clapping and yelling. It was awesome. One of the best movie memories I have.

Its a movie, Jesus! Chill out, accept that movies will NEVER be totally realistic, ever. Then you'll enjoy them more. I don't sit there watching films thinking, 'OMG!! That fall should have totally killed him, this is an outrage!!' Suspend your disbelief, thats what sci-fi is arguably all about. :)
@SolidEva I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Sci-Fi is about SCIENCE FICTION. As in, stories that are FICTION and feature SCIENTIFIC explanations. Suspending your belief is a key part of FANTASY genres. I mean really, how much more time would it have taken to make that airlock seem realistic? All they would have to do is slap another door on it and have Ripley crawl out before hitting the jettison button.
You have to suspend your disbelief when watching sci-fi almost as much as a fantasy film. I don't care if the films attempts to offer some explanation you still have to suspend disbelief. If the scene had played out how you suggested it'd be boring as hell! I know it's unrealistic but who the fuck cares, it's epic and entertaining.

@avadod There is a lot of talk about Ripley's foot being on the ladder. Her shoulder should have been messed up but the adrenaline would keep her going. It was just a few seconds.I was watching the movie "127" about a hiker who got his arm trapped under a boulder and had to cut his own arm off to escape. To me this sounds an impossibility (how to you cut through bones, cartilage, etc.?) But he did it. I think when it comes to life and death the human being is capable of anything.

Can you imagine Samus Aran fighting the queen? Samus has elimanated planets, defeated Mother Brain, Ridley, Kraid, Phantoon, all of these like ten times her size, and she's defeated all of them! All Samus has to use are the Power Bombs, Hyper Beam/Charge Beam/Ice Beam, have her Varia/Gravity suit on and the Power Missiles, and the Alien Queen is toast!!

I remember watching this opening night back in 1986 when I was a kid. When Ripley said the bitch line the theatre went nuts, people started clapping and yelling. It was awesome. One of the best movie memories I have.

Its a movie, Jesus! Chill out, accept that movies will NEVER be totally realistic, ever. Then you'll enjoy them more. I don't sit there watching films thinking, 'OMG!! That fall should have totally killed him, this is an outrage!!' Suspend your disbelief, thats what sci-fi is arguably all about. :)

@SolidEva I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Sci-Fi is about SCIENCE FICTION. As in, stories that are FICTION and feature SCIENTIFIC explanations. Suspending your belief is a key part of FANTASY genres. I mean really, how much more time would it have taken to make that airlock seem realistic? All they would have to do is slap another door on it and have Ripley crawl out before hitting the jettison button.

You have to suspend your disbelief when watching sci-fi almost as much as a fantasy film. I don't care if the films attempts to offer some explanation you still have to suspend disbelief. If the scene had played out how you suggested it'd be boring as hell! I know it's unrealistic but who the fuck cares, it's epic and entertaining.

ripley had to use a giant robotic suit to even come close to killing the queen in Aliens
but the other lady (I forgot her name) just used a chain, a giant water thing, the arctic ocean, and a predator to help her!
