@putover111 we both wear d same shoes!! been searching 4 it 4 7 good years after i first heard it on a local nigerian station! u cant believe my joy wen i found it few weeks back! most def. will be playing it @ my wedding!.
Très bien Noel Oliver merci , this still gives me goose bumps the concept and details of this song/video . they don't make them like this anymore . Tuuuune!!!
yoruba is not only spoken in Nigeria...it is also spoken in some parts of western africa too like republic of benin, togo et.c....yoruba or no yoruba...awesome song
Not only Negeria speak yoruba we do too in Benin Republic and he is originaly from Benin the capital call Porto-novo where they speak yoruba very well, We have the same tradition like yoruba from Nigeria, dress the same. Very proub to be the land of love.
@tethysto09 Point of correction. Yoruba speaking originated from Western part of Nigeria. Having the same tradition like the Yoruba make u a Yoruba man originated from Western part of Nigeria. With i saw in this video clip i repeat Nel oliver has Yoruba origin and he even speak the Yoruba fluent compare to the way some people speak Yoruba in Benin. Please ask those who know the history very well and they will tell you that Yoruba speaking is originated from Nigeria.
thanks for loading this song i remember it today i used to love it when i was in nigeria during my higher institution days ,good music never dies,we need more origine music pls
le jour kon homme me marieara c'est cette chanson ke je souhaite kon me chante. Beninois lai fitais mi de adji. depuis ke je suis a CT je n'ai pas encore rencontrer un beninois ou beninoise.
I still remember the day i searched and searched and searched for this song without success How frustrated i was! i had to give up. I LOVE THIS SONG PROBABLY MORE THAN ANY OTHER. So beautiful, so soul-touching, so culturally rich
The song is built around the concept of the "Bride's Tears" (Ekun Iyawo) in Yoruba traditional weddings. A day before the actual nuptials the bride holds a final, evening farewell meeting with her parents; the father and mother express their regrets that their little daughter who they love dearly has now to fly the coop. The bride responds in tears and song about her reluctance as well as her compulsion by love. Her gifts and belongings are carried by friends and family with her as she leaves.
i look forward to my sister's wedding so i can play this for my dad again. It is a song that will be there as long as there are still weddings. Glad i found it again.
Also watched the people dancing, that is pure, undiluted Yoruba dance with cloth called Aso Oke by the Yoruba`s, the problem is that so many of them cahnge their name from the original Yoruba name. Take for instance, Adebyor playing for Chelsea is a complete Yoruba guy, but he has to chnge the name From Adebayo to Adebayor.
Adebayor is the Togolese spelling of Adebayo; the spelling may even be deviant in Togo itself, but it says nothing about the owner's negative perception of his own ethnic identity. Emmanuel Adebayo's middle name is Seyi or Oluwaseyi.
Outreach you are right but mind you many of these people change their names from Nigeria names to Togo and Benin Names. Have met two of an example like these here in Germany, have met a guy from Togo with Togolese name, later he told me their origin is from Nigeria and they have to change the Yoruba name cause they consider it to be a slave name. Have met a guy too from Togo and he also told me their origin is from Nigeria and also they have to change their Hausa name to Togolese names.
Sad if indeed there are people who regard their indigenous names -- Yoruba or any other -- as slave names. I wouldn't want to meet, much less associate with such people. I do know of Beninois and Togolais people who are Yoruba but who claim to be Togolese and all but disavow their Nigerian connections. I take that in the spirit of politics. I also know that some names can be wackily spelled once a border is crossed; but disavowing ethnic names is unspeakable, like running away from one's skin!
Yes like running away from one`s skin. I don`t know if you know the history of Yoruba very well then you will know why it`s called a slave name. Some of them are sold as a slaves and some run away to Benin and Togo during the war. I don`t really know the name of the war that broke between the old Oyo empire.
I think the so called the Yoruba`s elder`s should try and do something about it. I never know that there is a Yoruba tribe in Sierra leone, i only know of the Cuba, Brazil, Pueto rico, etc. I never knew about Sierra Leaneans.
Still @ sexysugar40: Consider on the other hand Sierra Leoneans, Barbadians, Cubans and Brazilians, and a number of other ethnic Yoruba communities in the wider world who not only still answer Yoruba names but actually evince a zeal and passion about the homeland that often make you wonder. I like the Sierra-Leoneans a lot: they make their middle names Yoruba if they are Yoruba, like Eldred Durosinmi Jones, etc. I suppose there is little one can do for people who are ideologically brain-dead!
You are right. I think we need not to prolong this matter further. Even my halve white kids i gave them a Yoruba names and i`m trying to let them know they are Yoruba`s despite they are halve white.
Here in Germany is full of these Benin and Togolese of their origin is from Nigeria. I have a lot of them as friend`s and we speak Yoruba together, and they all know their origin is from Nigeria. Have been to Benin and Togo and i can see it for myself, not even Togo or Benin alone they are also in Ivory coast.
check from 1:25 to 1:44 which say`s : Omo mi baby girl, iwo timo feran ooo to fe losi ile oko, adura mogba fun e k`Olorun mi maba e lo ooo.. This is a Yoruba language not any other language.
Beninchild89 I know he used 4 languages in this track, mind you anyone who deosn`t have Yoruba heritage will not sing it perfectly as he did in this track. Look at the musical instrument he used also like Tlaking drum called Gan gan in Yoruba language also with other one called Shekere it`s all from Yoruba. He must have had a Yoruba heritage that is what i`m talking about. In one of his other track called wa jo. Meaning come and dance.
He does have yoruba heritage cause in the history Gun and Fon were very connected to Yoruba, In Porto Novo where my father comes from there were yoruba far in the history, people of Adja-Tado (Benin-Togo Kingdom) mixed with them and we have Gun people today who are descents of them and gun language is similar to yoruba There are lots of Gun in nigeria. I think nel oliver is Gun. That's what I know.
Chungychunge if you listen very well to this guy music you will know is from Nigeria you can bring out Yoruba lyrics out from the music. Before the colonial era, Benin republic was part of Yoruba from Nigeria, the third language from Benin republic is Yoruba. It was the Colonial master, i mean the French and English that sepretaed us from Each other.
omg i love that song ....i m proud of my country trust me we have the good music who tlak about good thing we didnt fools word may God bless my lovely country BENIN ...MISSING MY COUNTRY
though i hate to see u go/ i know u have ur life to live n i can see love in ur eyes/ the sun shines brightly in ur heart/u've never been so beautiful n u can see my joy n pride for u/ though u smile i see ur tears/ take his hand my baby girl n be his wife 4 ever more/ the time has come 4 u to go/ wipe ur tears n never fear 'coz i will always be right here 4 u..... i'd never thought u'd leave me/ soon 4 anyone it's so hard to let u go/ oh my child, my baby girl/ the time has come to live ur life

though i hate to see u go/ i know u have ur life to live n i can see love in ur eyes/ the sun shines brightly in ur heart/u've never been so beautiful n u can see my joy n pride for u/ though u smile i see ur tears/ take his hand my baby girl n be his wife 4 ever more/ the time has come 4 u to go/ wipe ur tears n never fear 'coz i will always be right here 4 u..... i'd never thought u'd leave me/ soon 4 anyone it's so hard to let u go/ oh my child, my baby girl/ the time has come to live ur life
