I think her interpretation in perfect. Interestingly, the "singer" in the song is the man, not the woman, yet the song is sung by a woman, the "femme fatale" of the film/song. Also, the man is recounting something that happened long ago, that he is now trying to make sense of, philosophically: why must people fall in love, lose each other and be caught in "le tourbillon de la vie"? Moreau is gently mocking, alluring, and not serious. After all, what is the end of the film about?

Je me voit bien gras double, triple menton avec la peau des pommettes jusqu'à la bouche, disant à mes petits enfants en tremblant : "Nous à l'époOoque Oon aAvaIt eBaaAay heEeEiIn...". Je préfèrerait même ne pas y arriver pour tout dire. 40ans serait bien assez.
