2.7 was also a Mercedes one lol ie. Mercedes 270CDI (5 cyl)....

The early Diesels were the VM 2.5 (4 cyl) and the 3.1 (5 cyl) (now part of fiat/chrysler 2010) in european Grands. the standard cherokee also had the 2.5 and the later wrangler unlimited and cherokee (liberty in North America) had the VM 2.8 CRD

It can haul more than the HEMI engines, and it gets better gas milage, about 17 to 18 in the city compared to the 5.7 Hemi's 13-14. Plus Diesels last ALOT longer than gasoline engines and in fact, they are now less poluting than Gasoline engiens

also check your shit...this Mercedes diesel V6 isn't particularly long lasting.

there is no evidence suggesting this will last longer than a Hemi

almost every diesel ever made lasts longer than any gasoline engine. thats enough evidence to assume this engine is better than your fuel sucking hemi. and for me, i dont give a shit about polluting the air. diesels are the way to go. not to even mention they can run off of vegetable oil (which is free).

and these V6s AREN'T particularly long lasting.some diesels will last longer, sure,some won't

here most cars sold are diesel, and I can tell you that we see little difference in the longevity of engines, and neither is thought to be better

That is true but only on cars. Here in North America there are not too many diesel cars on the road, just VW/Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Honda and Volvo are going to be selling diesels in the future.

So in North America when diesel is mentioned its mostly about pickup trucks, otherwise people say TDI/CDI etc instead of diesel. In these cases the diesels last longer. A 6.7L straight 6 diesel in a pickup is bullet proof compared to a gas V8 or V10.

Diesels are great when you factor in the better MPG, cheaper fuel etc.

But when your turbo or injectors give out and you no longer have warranty its time to PAY.

I was recently in Germany and got in a taxi, which was a 2005 E320 CDI (same engine as the Jeep).... It had 470,000 Kilometres on the clock...and the driver said it only ever gets basic maintenance (he said the engine oil only gets changed every 20k'mets apx (which i work out to be 12k miles... (470,000 Km is about 300,000 miles...which is not bad....

my grandfather actually has an E320 CDI of 2006 vintage too. and whilst they're not the worst, they're not the best

there definitely WERE some problems originally. they're probably gone now. something to do with cracked blocks if I remember correctly, but these would've been sorted under warranty and possibly a recall. I imagine these no longer exist, in fairness

it's a great engine, still would prefer a Hemi though

fuel prices in the UK and the low mpg the Hemi would offer may upset the bank manager....

It already costs £115 to fill (thats almost $200 US)...

If I was having a Hemi, I'd have to go for a WJ Overland 4.7 HO and my Corsa (or similar) as a compromise lol

God, I would kill for that again.....

the Navara? it's good on road, but offroad, I'm not a fan. I had a Mitsubishi L200 before which was much better offroad, but on road horrendous. And much better made, this Navara feels like it'll fall apart, and it's a year old with 12,000 miles and a few things have, to be honest

but the Navara is quick, comfortable, great spec and I tend to average 34mpg, which is impressive

I prefer the Ford Ranger, and the current L200 to be honest

stock the 3.7L which would be the weakes one would have a rev lim at 5800. this one was 4700, it has to be the diesel one. impressive for a 3.0L diesel that weights as much as this, 0-100 around 6 sec thats really impressive.

yup, grand cherokees are usually limited to about 115mph, except the srt8's, which are supposedly 155mph.
