I came across this series by chance but I absolutely loved it.

It's got a great plot and lots of character. It's criminally underated.

And for everyone who watched this show for a minute and claimed 'Eva-clone', it's not even remotely an Evangelion rip! How many ways can you fight alien beings with mecha exactly?

Ok, so the 'invaders' can appear to have halos at times, but you can chalk that more up to homage. Besides, it's not like you see those in Eva anyway.
