The greatest artists ask much of us. Peter Greenaway challenges those who encounter his work, because the experience demands engagement and awareness - if not the first time, then in subsequent visits. I think we have to be willing to invest the something close to the same level of creative/emotional/mental energy in viewing as he has done in bringing it to us.

I also think we want all art to be easy, and it's not. The reward is worth the effort.

i have seen peter greenaway live during the strijp festival in eindhoven holland presenting this tulse luper suitcases it was the most amazing cinematic display of my life. Absolutely gripping and unforgetable.
