  • She won! Well, she got lots of won, so she sang at the top of her voice. :-)

  • Comment removed

  • WOW, she has such an amazing voice...Awesome, Awesome, Awesome Voice!!!!!!

  • it makes like a police car at 2:26

  • I get mad at 2:16

  • I'm surprised by the criticism of her vocal style. Rosina is a young girl, and she is a bit on the hysterical side. I liked this interpretation. I think her voice is lovely and beautifully produced. She sings on the voice and her vocal line is perfect. For me the bottoms are a tad dark and a bit bottled sounding, but I'd love to hear her live, first, before making an assumption that this is always how her voice sounds. And frankly, at 50, she's singing Rossini much better than most.

  • Perfect! Excellent control and strong voice. Love it!

  • Follow that Katherine Jenkins

  • Rosina is a late teenager or early 20-something; she is going to go from crying one minute, laughing the next, to being haughty the next: that's the way girls of that age are. Wonderful performance!

  • @Tenoroso1

I guess the word i was looking for was petulant...she does it perfectly!

  • I CAN'T STOP WATCHING! SHE IS TOO GOOD!

  • Jennifer Larmore is such a great mezzo! God, there's no way one can deslike her performances!

I have only one critic: she does it all too well. ¬¬

She stole the place of my favorite Cenerentola from von Stade.

    xD

  • what does she think "Rosina" is???? why is she "shouting" & "crying" ???? I think there is some misunderstanding, in terms of language & culture, as well as techniques?? the way she deliver "...ma"!! wow. simply hysterical. Rossini phrases should never be "attacked" like this, though majority of audience in Korea might not know the difference between Rossini and broadway musicals!

  • This is the best una voce poco fa ever!!! Jennifer Larmore is outstanding!

  • Fantastic Lady. Beautiful performance. And she is American Love it.

  • che bella voce...

  • diction - check

    on-tune - check

    character - check

    projection - CHEEEECK

    That was awesome :D

  • Perfection! My benchmark for learning this piece.

  • love it!

  • This is more an example of Can Belto rather than Bel Canto - completely unnecessary for such a terrific instrument. This interpretation is way overdone. Marilyn Horne showed that deep, dark tones are exciting, elevating the hopes of all those mezzos who aspired to be sopranos instead. But Horne sang with taste and discernment. Callas also sang this aria like an ingenue, not like the Walkyrie above.

  • CatalinaDM56, she has a wonderful voice. What part of your appreciation of her voice required you to insult her home? As an American who loves opera, has traveled the world, lived in Europe for years, and learned not to offer gratuitous insults, you can kiss my cowboy butt.

  • what the hell.... that is an incredible sound. From what I hear, I guess she's singing dramatic soprano gigs now too.

  • what the hell.... that is an incredible sound.

  • this lady is amazing. love love lovely lovely

  • ¡Whow! Just wonderful, all students mezzos must have to study hearing Jennifer. Is she a dramatic mezzo? Thanks for posting this magnific video. I can hear one and many more times.

  • @Mariasonatta A coloratura one, otherwise she wouldn`t have this splendid range and vocal agility. Just listen to those trills! I`ve NEVER heard a mezzo doing better ones! And I`m definetely studying her as much as I can :P Though she`s one of a kind mezzo=my jaw is still on the floor.

  • I would hardly say that Ms. Larmore wreaked havoc on her voice. She's past 50 now and still sings Rossini better than most anyone out there. Rossini is DIFFICULT to sing, and most singers can't handle it after a certain age; some never. You need to keep the instrument in good shape. We all have a certain color to our voices, and it can sound different from piece to piece. I, for one, absolutely love the timbre of Ms. Larmore's voice, and she has long been one of my favorite singers.

  • Beautiful voice. Very well suited and well performed, and also very ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE. tHANKS for sharing it.

A kolorálásban is lassítja, jesszus.

  • she is mad powerful!!! she has some lungs on her. tre bien! j'aime beaucoup!

  • Incredible!!! Heartbreakingly beautiful singing, weoll done Jenny!

  • I can NEVER grow tired of this video...Thank you for sharing!!

  • Too loud, overbearing! Perhaps Wagner will be a better choice.

  • @9samten what!?!

  • not her best, but not terrible. it's just a little too covered and seems like the voice is "jerking" to me

  • Astonishing. to a layman like me, who doesnt know anything, it sounds heavenly and makes tears come to my eyes with pleasure.

    god bless jennifer

  • huge big mack truck voice. Yikes. Wouldnt want to meet her in a dark alley. Not very pretty

  • Brava!!!..

  • OK! so what, a vowel was back every now and then, such things never really worry me, but one has to admit, this is a very special and rare kind of mezzo-voice. I wll give still give her an A-plus for the sheer excitement she brings to singing this music. She is definitely unique.

  • Just listened to Elina Garanca, lovely!

  • Yeecch. On second audition, it's pitiful: the awful "behind the tonsils sound of "mio sara". Yuck. And other abominations. She doesn't even wait at some points to finish a consonant before jumping on the next word. This is just ugly.

  • Hey whoever posted this video.. She still is singing Unuh Vooochay Poooco FUH... This articulation is horrible... It still sucks and remove my comment again you horrible queen.

  • There's some boso going around giving these impeccable artists something less than five stars.

Well, shame on him/her, whoever that is.

This deserves as many stars as exist.

    Bravo!

  • @sillyboydeux

I agree, however does her articulation of the Italian text not bother you? As an Italian it bother the hell out of me. It is horrible diction, worse than Joan'S in some respect... I hate the sound. Hate it.

  • Yes of course you are right, and I have just accepted long ago that no Americans save Aprile Millo (who heard Italian spoken as a child) and precious few others in history take the time necessary to study the vowels. It is exhausting, of course, because "o" or "u" can have hundreds of "sfumature" and so it is really a talent in itself for "picking up" languages.

  • This woman's "italian" vowels are not the result on not being Italian, they are the way she sings.. the way she makes that covered awful sound.

  • Yes, you are right all the way. Why gloss it over. She was marketed like an Armani perfume at the beginning of her career and she got every major engagement for Rosina and the "mezzo girl" repertoire. Now she's got plenty of competition.

  • Manda7186- I have a sneaking suspicion you are only saying this because you LOOK like a barking dog! :)

  • she has a remarkable voice! it's very sizeable and weighty and the timbre is gorgeous! her chest voice is matched by few, if any!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • manda 7186,

you sound like a total fool...just sayin'

  • @manda7186

    you sound like an asshole.

  • My god! I thought she'd NEVER get off that note in the opening part!

  • Her voice is like cream. She has a very nice control.

  • brava!

  • Comment removed

  • This song should be full of fun

Great voice But she always frown in high note part...

  • And the winner is...

    Jennifer Larmore...

    Miss Intergalactic!

  • @Turee85 maybe you can teach Bartoli and Larmore how to sing agilitá, why are you Italians always so critical?? By the way, you should try and learn some English first, this way you could spread your venom to more people...

  • She looks amazing now she has lost the weight... see production of Alban Berg's Lulu at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden last season

  • I think it kills certain people to see a talented, beautiful woman having fun at a CONCERT!

  • when she sings rossini seems she´s singing verdi!!! fantastic!

  • perfect!!! she invented a new way of singing! she is so dramatic!

i could pay a lot to see her singing this song this way....

Dolora Zajick is a soprano when you compare both timbres....hehehe

  • She is an absolutely fantastic mezzo...in fact it is quite a feat, considering she was educated in the United States. Her mezzo is so rare...you don't hear such dark, creamy-voiced mezzos anymore...it's a lost art. It's sort of nauseating how such ignorant insults are thrown at this artist...it is sort of sad...it's okay, though. The majority of America loves mediocrity.

  • It is quite sad...I agree.

  • someone deleted my comment!!

  • @CatalinaDM56 I agree...I don't know who the rest of these guys are used to listening to, but they are missing out....

  • @CatalinaDM56

the majority of people are mediocre, a simple bell curve can tell you that about most anything...

  • @CatalinaDM56 Sadly, overdarkening of her voice has wrecked havoc on her voice. There's a reason one doesn't hear such dark sounding mezzos (or other voice types) anymore...our science of the voice and vocal pedagogy has progressed far enough to show us such voice types are exceedingly rare and most people (like Ms. Larmore) who do use such voices do it with false darkening and the resulting pressure leads to eventual vocal collapse. Just look at Maria Callas.

  • @CatalinaDM56 I agree completely, simply gorgeous!

  • @CatalinaDM56 Amen!!! God, she is spectacular. Those of you who talk about "false darkening" don't know your ass from a hole in the ground. False darkening occurs when you - among other things - "cover" by manipulating the palette. That creates tension and has to be compensated for. Ms. Larmore sings with Garcia (bel canto) technique, which uses the resonance spaces a good deal more than other techniques. Sutherland actually used her voice very similarly.

  • @CatalinaDM56 Many of the best conservatories in the world are in the United States and many of the top-singing performers in the world right now are Americans.

  • @CatalinaDM56 "The majority of America loves mediocrity" That statement seems rather odd given that America has given so much to the world in so many areas. I see hostility toward Americans from people who are jealous. Just like when the US decided to play soccer the international community complained when the Americas did so well so early in their participation. People complained that it wasn't fare to allow Americans to play because they are so good at everything.

  • The color isn't so pure.

  • she sounded a lot better like 10 years earlier

  • Agree!!!!!

  • Amazing. Seems to me she loves Rossini...:)

  • not good...no no no....

  • bravísima. así se canta Rossini.

  • where's the human spirit here?.. she is a beautiful singer and she's "out there" singing...negative comments are well... just.. negative.. i dunno...i commend anyone who develops their' talent and actually uses it.. brava jennifer

  • fratzickaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • wow...I don't know who she is....but she can SING!!!

  • Jeeeeeeeee!!!

  • The best interpretation!!!Great voice...

  • Comment removed

  • Well what can we expect from the President of the Jennifer Larmore Appreciation Society? Lord.. talk about objectivity.. Look Paul... there are many singers I like that others dislike.. that does not make them dumb.. it is their taste.. Show some respect.. She has bad diction.

  • Comment removed

  • She sounds as a leader of a revolution, not as a viper. Will she at least ovethrow a government?

  • Ish. the vowels are so mushy and dark you can harrdly understand them, its a good thing I know this aria well, or I would not know what she is singing.. UGH.. horrible.

  • Comment removed

  • And why dont you fuck off ... you know exactly what i am talking about.. The words are mush.. they are worse than mush and you are the biggest asshole in the world.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL, ok, well mush brain.. its mush from her mouth.. its terrible singing. its terrible interpretation and how anyone pays to listen to her is a good question. Now leave me alone.. and go listen to that mush and you take a nap.

  • Comment removed

  • No dear, I am not frustrated.. These are words, set to music that convey feelings, thoughts and emotions.. When the diction is such that you cannot understand the words, then.. she might as well be singing DUH to all the notes.... This is supposed to be theatre! LOL, I guess that is lost on you. I never like her much .. other mezzos are far better.

  • Comment removed

  • Do you happen to know what is considered good "italian"? The O vovels are modified to the AH.. that is good italian.. she has horrible diction.. Horrible.. and horrible italian. So You are the one that needs to take a language class. And dont tell me I dont know Italian.. I am italian. I speak italian. Go to hell.

  • Basta, Kgar! Crudele! And do remember: whatever goes around, comes around. And be advised: The internet has not abolished capitalization nor apostrophes. Just noting your diction here. Va!

  • Comment removed

  • This is what idiots do when they cannot answer the specific charge... And I am an American/italian... I do not come from Italy, and Basta to you as well.. Now dont make me swear at you in "Italian" her Italian sucks.. and you know it.. her o vowels are way too closed and her eh vowels sound like ewuh... It is horrible diction. Now respond in kind, rather than correct my grammar..

  • Comment removed

  • For your information idiot., Italian was spoken in my home, while I was growing up, so of course I learned it.And I grew up listening to Caruso, et all.. and their Italian was not like Larmore's My parents were sons and daughters of first generation immigrants. . Now, please dont make me take out my brain so we can start even in this debate! You are wrong..Ms. Larmore's diction isnt much better on the rest of the vids on You tube either.I have listened. And I just shake my head. Case closed.

  • One thing I have noticed about you U tube queens is that you are very very nasty , when on negative thing is said about your "girls".... For all I know you probably are the same idiot that like Devia.

  • Wow! That one high note sounded just like an car alarm!!

  • which one?

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Very nice and heartful interpretation!

  • WOW!!! me sorprendio. Muy buena!!! Brava!!!!

  • Prefere soprano in the role of Rosina, but, to be honest, Jeniffer does it good - with a good mezzo Rosina can be same joy as when soprano is singing.

  • I think you mean the other way around. Occasionally a soprano can do this justice.

  • Oh for God's sake! Rossini wrote Rosina for a mezzo! Inform yourself! And learn to spell! Jennifer! Not Jeniffer! Geeze oh Pete!

  • Comment removed

  • Well done!!!!

  • very spine-tingling! i really really love her!

  • nobody cares about you, esmurxes

  • no, I'm afraid I do not understand your hostility. I'm sure I'm not the first person to tell you this.

  • you know?

you are not any worth answering

  • Go away - nobody likes you. HAHAHAHAHAH!

  • pweny why do you hate people you has another opinion about things you like? and why do you take it personally? you don't even know her. You shouldn't idealize anybody, because nobody is perfect. You can pick any singer and you'll find songs that don't match them. And this is the case, there's a bunch of singer who do a better version like: Ewa Podles, Elina Garnaca, Tresa Berganza even Cecilia Bartoli...

  • Esmurxes...Be silent, you'll have more friends.

  • We are in a mature free society where every body can express their opinion, aren't we. Only CHILDREN tell others to go away or shut up

  • I was certainly amazed at the volume, but it was too overbearing. It lost its playfulness. I enjoyed listening to it, but she seemed just too pumped.

  • and you sound like a moron.

  • Brava.. She is splendid!!!!

  • Meravigliosa!! Eguaglia la Callas!

  • esagerato(a)!

  • I really enjoyed!:)

    Bravo!!!

  • Mezzo di bravura! Brava, Larmore!

  • She can produce some real decibels...

  • She really can!

Her voice has a lot of ring and ping like

    Maria Callas.

  • concordo kn te , cecilia the best

  • Great!! I love her but Bartoli´s coloratura is the best. She is the queen of coloratura nowadays!

  • IMPRESIONANTE!!!! Que voz hermosa, y que fuerza!!!! Felicitaciones!!! me quede muy impresionada!!!!

  • Bravissima! Congratulations! Jennifer Larmore, 1st place: The "Una voce poco fa" Contest. No words could describe the new dimension and color you gave to soprano singing. Love you!

  • Wow! Astonishing technique. I´ve heard of her for a long time but never had the opportunity to appreciate her art. With no doubt a performance that represents a vocal class itself!

  • AAAAAH, i get to do a master class with her over the summer! i'm like, SUPER excited now.

  • She really knows how to transmit the art of singing!

  • Hermoso, brava¡¡¡

  • Toda Una DIVA!

  • bella me encanto

  • I´m sorry, but for me it isn´t better than Cecilia Bartoli! This is so "hoooo" - i can´t describe it in English. But Cecilia is better like MUSICIAN!

  • The two cannot be compared...Larmore is leaps ahead of her in scope of repatoire and sings with emotion rather than mere showing off, which Bartoli does quite well.

  • They will not be compared.Very different voices. Two great singers.

  • Damn she could be in soprano arias like o mio babbino, vissi d'arte etc...

  • Almost as significant as her great voice,

and the new Grammy (!) is that she's an unpretentious non-scandel-noodel ANTI-DIVA

with a real sense of humor!!!

  • is this even better than Cecilia Bartoli???

I mean, THE VOICE OF JENNIFER!!!! Astounding!!!
