Have to agree with oztish, this version does seem a bit rushed and ragged. I've listened to them all & his performance in the '92 Nimes concert remains my favorite -- so smooth. Still, this version shows just how deft his fingerwork is, despite the pace, or maybe because of it. I agree with the rest of you, an absolute genius guitarist and composer. An international treasure... For utter artistry, you must hear his opening of "Planet of New Orleans" if you haven't already - magnificent!
I really think MK has captured the lyrical quality of the guitar more than any other musician. I feel like he is engaging in a musical version of "conversing" or "story-telling". That is why MKs playing is so engrossing.
I love all kind of good music...esp string music, so guitar & violin are my lovers. As an older MK fan, I'm glad to know there are many young buddies all around the world loving his tasteful music. Thanks for your comment.
kmhiyellow, thank you for posting this amazing live set,the man is a legend!i cant think of any guitarist that comes anywhere near mk!long may he reign!!!!
I think Telegraph Road has to be THE high point in the history of rock guitar solos. Other stuff is good (I love, for example, the solos of D. Gilmour on Comfortably Numb and Time), but Knopfler's work in this song towers over anything and everything else. Best damn guitar player ever.
My vinyl copy of Love Over gold got stolen in '94, and I only recently replaced it with the (remastered) CD. In the interim, I moved to the US, and the lyrics now speak so much more strongly to me, now I've driven through towns like the one described. The song makes me tear up now, which it never used to do.
Season ticket for Celtic Park - £410. Porsche Carrera GT3 - £92,000. 4 bedroom house in the west end of Glasgow - A cool £Million!........ Mark Knopfler Live - Fucking PRICELESS!!!
Fantastic! The best performance of Telegraph Road i've seen. Though I wish that the camera would stop jumping around when he is doeng the solo. It would be good just to see how he does it.
Best version of Telegraph Road, ever! I heard MK in Oslo Spectrum, live 13th og May, 2005. He played this song, but with anoter drum beat. Wasn't the best I've heard...
...it would take 10 lifetimes for any modern day guitarist to score a fraction of his talent. hes imperviously void of any flaws in his guitar work in the late 80s to late 90's

Strange to read in some guitar magazines that Knopfler is not listed best guitarist.
Probably some journalists missed some concerts. Lucky them, Mark is on the road every 2 years now so don't miss him.

It's all to do with being fashionable or blowing smoke up their arses for the publicity. Not really mark's thing....

One of my all time fave songs. I agree with a previous poster - they have played this far too fast for my liking. Sounds too rushed.
