  • Quick question... WHAT THE F***.

  • Srb2 stole the idea

  • why put a mascot who's purpose is speed in a game that's so full of pitfalls?

  • @benjamillion because sonic advance 2

  • @SHADOWtehULTIMATE

okay, that comment made no sense at all

  • @benjamillion made perfect sense, you're just weird

  • @SHADOWtehULTIMATE

dude your reply wasn't even relevant to what i said

  • @benjamillion it was, that game was full of pits~

  • @SHADOWtehULTIMATE

yes, i know, sonic x-treme is full of pits

  • why can't Sega bring this out they bring out sonic 1,2 and 3 again and again why not this

  • ohh sega... why did you cancel the game?? it was going to be so awesome!!!

  • The only problem I have with this game apart from the fact that it never came out, is that it's a little slow. The platforming looks challenging as all hell, but it needs more speed.

  • @erecshyr1nol the slowness is from the clip, really the game is more fast

  • Sega you can still release this game make it for the 3DS

  • @jolteonmaster wow that isn't a bad idea, but the remake needs to be completed by the original creators

  • nada mal el juego, se sega no lo queria sacar pero si esta chido

  • Watching this makes me feel dizzy

  • What's the music in the beginning?

  • This is a essential 3D game for Sonic

  • the creators gave themselfs seizers by making this game and thats why it was cancceld

  • @DoodlesTube and Zelda64! Damn, thatd be so awesome

  • How the heck is that a Death Egg level?

  • @supermax110 You right! This isn't fan made :/

Must be the Sega Saturn version :D

  • Eggman, what the fuck happened to your budget?

  • ... little strange game...

But considering this is the fan made game, is awesome! Great Work!

  • @shinobiterry This one isn't the fan-made one. Atleast I'm sure it isn't. :I I'm sure it's the real one though.

  • this game needs to be ported to the 3ds with dated graphics

  • They should release a compilation on 3DS with Sonic X-Treme and Star Fox 2!

  • lets revive this progejct !

  • @segafan230 They tried, it failed. However pretty much everything that was done has been released now except the actual game code...

  • esse jogo pra pc tÊm cara de vírus

  • Anyone know where to find this song?

  • It reminds me of the final Bowser stage in Super Mario 64

  • In my humble opinion, I think Sega shot themselves in the foot by not following through with this game. It may not have been able to outdo Super Mario 64, but it probably would have been a fun experience for us Saturn owners. From the looks of this demo, I think the developers were on the right track. I also like the music in this demo.

  • @Loader2K1

Indeed, the fish eye perspective gave it a unique touch to 3D platforming, plus would've probably received less camera woes than future 3D Sonic games (especially the ones between 06-08). I never owned a Saturn but since it wasn't that successful, it did kind of doom the Dreamcast which is AWESOME is still sitting my room between my Wii and 360, haha. We would've definitely gotten Sega's next gen system had they still be in the hardware business.

  • @ab88Hype I heard rumors of a sega ringedge console

  • @ab88Hype: The Saturn library is pretty decent. You should buy one off E-Bay. If you can, buy an Action Replay Plus for it and some of its Japanese and European imports.

  • @Loader2K1 Actually they wanted to release the game, but they weren't able to meet deadlines on time so it unfortunatly had to be cancelled.

  • @pkstarstorm1up: That's true, but Sega of Japan threw a wrench in the project when Yuji Naka got all anal when the staff of Sonic X-Treme was going to use to the Nights engine without his consent. I guess it never occured to him that Sega owned the Nights engine, not him.

  • @Loader2K1 Yeah I know. Which really if you think about it probably hurt the series more than releasing an incomplete game. Maybe that's why they released 06 despite it not being ready yet, because it would hurt the franchise more to cancel a game that had been hyped up so much and that was really looked forward to than it would be to release a buggy (but still very fun) game.

  • @pkstarstorm1up: I've never played Sonic 2006 because of the negative criticism it got, and I've also seen mixed reviews on Sonic Generations. Still, I'm interested in playing Generations. In fact, the last Sonic game I played was Sonic Adventure 2, and I found that game absolutely disappointing. I think it would help Sega in the near future to not try and rush Sonic games out when they know full well they're not finished (for example, Sonic 3 on the Genesis/Mega Drive).

  • @Loader2K1 *shot an arrow in their knee

  • @Loader2K1 The game looks like it needs work, and not even Sonic Adventure outdid Mario 64, but from what it looks like here it seems the developers had better ideas about what a 3D Sonic game should be like than the ideas Sega have been having for the past ten years. They also seemed to have some decent story ideas, so I think that they should be allowed to finish it, or at least Sega should recycle the name and some of the key concepts for a future game. Sonic fans deserve at least that much.

  • @MrLunitunz: To be fair, this game WAS unfinished, but the developers were on the right track before the game got canceled. I agree with you that Sega should use some of the key concepts here for a future game.

  • @MrLunitunz In my opinion Sonic Adventure is much more fun and better then Super Mario 64 is and that is saying something since I'm more of a Mario fan then a Sonic fan. Plus I love the storylines in the 3D Sonic games (exceptions would be Heroes, Secret Rings, Colors, and Generations.)

  • @pkstarstorm1up I disagree completely. I enjoyed Sonic Adventure, this is true. But it's nowhere near as good as Mario 64. Mario 64 was more thought out, Nintendo obviously thought long and hard about how to translate Mario to 3D. It's fun to play, never gets boring, more time and effort went into making it than Sonic Adventure, which was rushed to meet a Christmas deadline, to their detriment. Sonic on the other hand had two gameplay styles which were totally boring, Knuckles and Big.

  • @MrLunitunz Sonic Adventure has many different gameplay styles, a vast world you can explore, non linear levels, great 3D platforming, and epic storyline, great music, and nice graphics for it's time. The only bad thing about Sonic Adventure was Big the Cat. Mario 64 while very fun is really difficult, there are to many levels to go through, the fact that you have to grind up power stars to advance in the story is frustrating, and alot of bonus levels were pretty lame.

  • @pkstarstorm1up Thing is, Sonic fans only care about one gameplay style, Sonic's. Granted, you did get to play as Sonic enough and you got similar stages with Tails and Amy, so it's better than Adventure 2 in that respect. But Knuckles, Big, even E-102 slow down that gameplay. And you HAVE to play as them if you want to be Super Sonic. Mario 64 didn't do that, Nintendo are very good at keeping differing game styles to different games. Plus Sonic Adventure feels clunky and rushed, unlike Mario.

  • @MrLunitunz Most Sonic fans actually like playing as many different characters and it's better having that vareity. Knuckles levels were fun enough, Gamma's levels were alot of fun despite being slower, and Big the Cat was just a waste of time (although he has a great theme song.)

  • @pkstarstorm1up That's untrue. A common complaint about most of the post 2D Sonic games is that Sega force you to play as these superflous characters or they try to shove some dumb gameplay gimmick down your throat, the best examples would be Silver the Hedgehog and the Werehog. The best Sonic games have you playing as Sonic only, or with the option to play as characters that aren't that different to Sonic, like in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. That's why post-Colours games are Sonic only.

  • No it isn't. The only complaints about that are from the biased Retro Fantard reviewers. Silver the Hedgehog is an awesome character and is one of the most fun to play as characters in the series. It's better with lots of different characters. It adds replay value and gameplay variety. Um no the more different the characters are from each other the more fun and intresting they are to play as. Sonic Heroes failed because all of the characters played exactly the same as each other.

  • @MrLunitunz The best Sonic games have multiple playable characters that play differently from each other and are unique. No matter what the reviewers say all Sonic games should be set up like Sonic Adventure both in story and gameplay wise. Heck Sonic 06 is better then most of the other so called finished Sonic games because it is structured like Sonic Adventure in both gameplay and story wise, and all of the characters are very fun to play as (except for Knuckles and Omega.)

  • @MrLunitunz Sonic Team will stop making the games Sonic only because alot of people are getting tired of that and are starting to complain about it as well.

  • @pkstarstorm1up Further, and definitively, proving that the Sonic fanbase cannot be pleased.

  • @MrLunitunz So true. But I hope that once they make another Sonic Adventure styled game (only Microsoft won't screw them over like they did with 06) they will keep that style and it's type of serious and epic storylines and multiple different playable characters when it comes to the 3D games. The 2D games can be as simplistic and Sonic only as they like but keep the 3D games fresh and exciting please!XD

  • @MrLunitunz Super Mario Sunshine is a much better game in my opinion.

  • @pkstarstorm1up We diverge again, In my opinion Sunshine was the worst of the 3D Mario platformers (64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Galaxy 2). It wasn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but in many ways it was too open ended and mopst importantly, unlike 64 and the Galaxy games, it didn't reward you adequately for collecting all 120 Shines, all you get is a stupid background at the end of the game for your time and effort.

  • @MrLunitunz Sunshine is my favorite of the 3D Mario platformers. Galaxy is really fun but Galaxy 2 is just a rehash of the levels and storyline. Galaxy 2 is like the JP Mario 2 only it isn't cheap beyond belief.

  • @MrLunitunz Yes that is a bad reward but the levels are much more fun.

  • @MrLunitunz Plus it had an Adventure field and I like Adventure fields.

  • @Loader2K1 Even if they weren't on track, they still needed this. The Saturn needed a sonic release to boost its sales

  • @limpchikenbizkit: We probably would have had this game if Sega of Japan had just left Sega of America alone to make the game and had let them use the Nights engine. Another problem at the time was that the SOA president, Tom Kalinske, who basically had the Midas touch at marketing, was replaced in favor for Bernie Stolar and Peter Moore, who basically ran SOA into the ground and are a part of the reason Sega no longer makes video game consoles.

  • @Loader2K1 the game was cancelled due to many glitches... They couldn't fix it (or were too lazy to do it). >: But now I think they can remake this... Would be awesome...

  • @lag0000: The game was canceled due to a lot of reasons, but I don't recall ever hearing about anything with glitches having to do with the cancellation.

  • @Loader2K1 It's true that I, somehow, misused the word "glitch"; You see, english is not my first language, so, sometimes, I forgot some words and use another instead, and that what happened. This is what I meant: "Sonic X-treme is an unreleased Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Sega Saturn. [...] Due to numerous development problems, the game was canceled in 1997." (source: Sonic Retro[dot]org)

  • @lag0000: Oh. Okay. Thanks for clarifying. I'm well aware of the reasons why Sonic X-Treme was canceled, and the major reasons were of office politics between Sega of Japan and Sega of America and the fact that it was literally killing the one of the staff members that was working on it.

  • @Loader2K1 nah yo it was rejected, sadly.

  • @edman2121: The game was NOT rejected; it was cancelled.

  • @Loader2K1 I'd love the idea of a fully-fledged Sonic game on the Saturn, but I'd have rather had one that played like Sonic Adventure. This looks OK but I don't really get the feeling that it's a Sonic game, which is also how I feel about Sonic Robo Blast 2.

  • @Rexeljet: Well, if it helps, the 3D gameplay that was in Sonic Jam was more or less the template for Sonic Adventure. I enjoyed Sonic Adventure for the most part, but I still would have liked to have played Sonic X-Treme.

  • it seems like sega didnt really know how to make this game. Its not surprising considering 3D was so new.

  • I thought the game was never released, where were you able to find the rom?

  • This fish-eye camera makes me nauseous...

  • Through a motha' fuckin' fisheye lens

  • Too high fov :D

  • Was I supposed to do something other than lol at this?

  • @AlquimistEd Think about what could have been? =P Personally, I think it would've been interesting to play. At least then the Saturn might have one proper Sonic game.

  • The music is pretty frikkin dope!!!

  • Sonic X-treme would make a way past cool 3DS game!

  • @gjtrue no ps vita when it comes out

  • @jrlegomaster dude, the 3ds would handle a view like this perfectly, as the ps vita uses 3d to make stuff pop out of the screen using glasses, the 3ds uses multiple screens and makes it look like ur looking in a diorama, which wuld be perfect for a game like this

  • @gjtrue sega must do this. the technology is perfect for it

  • @gjtrue YEah, but no one knows who Tiara is anymore.

  • @gjtrue you are right maybe as a downloadable game

  • Sonic is games are like fine wine....

  • This reminds me of Super Mario 64. They could've made a fair profit off of this had they released it on the Saturn...

  • I think this is the Fish-Eye USA Limited Edition

  • this game reminds me of super monkey ball

  • okay it's maybe just a demo, the gameplay is awesome but the graphics... They're horrible honestly

  • @robert42thebest The Graphics are bad because the games from like 1996:) im playing the unrealesed copy now but it doesnt look like this :(

  • @BlazedProductionz And what? this game is from the sega saturn, and sonic 3d blast genesis version is 100 times better than this crap, and i don't talk about the saturn version of 3d blast

  • @robert42thebest I have Sonic 3D Blast it sucks :L, And the graphics are bad on that too,

  • @BlazedProductionz Really? just compare a sou second the (Saturn version , sure --") 3d blast game and this technical demo graphics, if you still think the last one got better ones then you should check your eyes for an revision at the doctor...

  • I masterbate to this game every time.

  • i like sonic.. but this game looks sucks... i got dizzy just watching the video.. no wonder it got canceled

  • looks like a trippy sonic 3D blast, probably why they canceled it

  • im going to have a stern talking to SEGA

  • seems fun, but it would take me forever to figure this out

  • why was this cannceld

  • @jonahinfo101 politics and/or other silly shit

  • @handofstand oh well now it makes sense, this would have been a very successive game :(

  • @jonahinfo101 LOL, they people with the money really just don't know what to do with it, do they?

  • @handofstand nope! they sure don't sega has a good series or 2 idk. but sonic has fallen down, but lately he's been climbing up and doing better....but they still need to make some better games. u know?

  • This honestly looks cool, like Mario galaxy , to bad Sega never released this i'm sure it would have been a hit :D

  • Thats just trippy as fuck...

  • whats the name of this song?? its cool =)

  • this might look good (for the time), but the gameplay's a mess. it's sluggish, and the jumps look like they lack any sense of accuracy. it wouldn't have been canceled if the movement worked more like the original games (which sonic adventure pulled off to an extent, but it still was a big departure from the 2D series). also, what's with that weird, oval level? it doesn't look like you can freely jump and run from end to end, it's cramped for the blue space hedgehog to zip through. too bad.

  • Looks pretty unique. Sega could have really done with a classic Sonic game for the Saturn to put them back on track...

  • this game couldve prevented sonic 06 :'(

  • This Game Is´nt Bad.....Just Strange.

  • i get dizzy watching those graphics

  • It does look pretty cool :)

I'm not a big fan of the modern mega fast Sonics post-Unleashed so I'd love to have some older Sonic gameplay like this or... SA3!!! ^^

  • For everyone saying that this game would have been awful....

put this in your mind: 2 people almost died making this.

  • @Turbo200X ???

    Explain Please

  • @mrguycrap Well, because sega wanted this game out by christmas of 1996, they had to shorten lunch breaks and other stuff just to get the game finished on time. When the game went into development hell, this caused two people to get sick and nearly die.

  • @Turbo200X Oh...I´m sorry

  • this is a mixture of super mario 64 and crash bandicoot

  • @32x1000 Not really.

This game was in development before mario 64 and crash bandicoot.

  • @Turbo200X oh

  • For all the people who say this is horrible THE GAME WAS NEVER FINISHED!

  • I think the fish eye effect looks different. quite a cool effect too!

  • Looks like an awful game. Sega made a good choice binning this game...if only they kept their standards as high after they left the console making business.

However the circular level reminds me a lot of some Mario Galaxy levels .

  • @JallenMeodia Nah.

It looks like a cool game.

  • Can't help but wonder what the full game would've been like.

The Death Egg in 3d. THAT could've been glorious.

  • Unlike those other 3D games, this game really makes me fell like I'm in the game, instead of the game popping out to me. I don't know how else to say it. It just looks awesome. Why must this be cancelled? :(

  • throughout this whole video i was staring so seriously at my screen. freakin' crazy game...

  • OMG, the soundtrack for this stage totally sounds like "What is Love"...

  • @Kakelor Actually, it's a song made for the game... I don't think it's the stages BGM.

  • @Kakelor I don't think this is the actual theme for the zone. The song is called "Space Queens."

  • @Kakelor I don't think it does sound like that, and I'm happy I think that way. I personally love this song because it reminds me of what I think Sonic music should REALLY sound like. (my opinion)

  • horrible game

  • @MrBurgundy76 actually the Saturn was more powerful than PS1, just more difficult to program for.

  • God saturn tech was so far behind the 64 and ps1

  • This game looks so... circular

  • sick concept but im glad they scrapped it

  • Looks slow and sluggish. I'm glad they waited for the Dreamcast and made Sonic Adventure instead.

  • this was gonna be released on windows mac and saturn ): they shoukdve added this in one of those games were they showcase all of sonic classic games

  • It looks a bit slow in my opinion but the concept is awesome and very original :) Sure sucks to have 3D Blast instead of this

  • Too bad this game was cancelled. If Sega would had been smarter and the US team not fight with the Japan team, Sonic Xtreme could had been the greater rival of Super Mario 64. This game is so different compared with Sonic adventure, which is a solid game, but lighty original or surprising.

  • i hear hints of what is love in that music, lol sega was gonna do the study pop songs thing again

  • they should put a sonic x-treme type level, with a fish-eye lens, in sonic generations

  • @gc3k Hell yes. With new versions of this track and everything.

  • @gc3k better yet, there is a hidden time hole where you get to play all of sonic xtream

  • this game looks great! and it's like the beta version right?

  • someone HAS to remake it

  • i like the music

  • This reminds me more of Sonic Adventure than SM64.

  • Comment removed

  • this would be good as puzzle game nothing more.

  • I don't think that this would have been a very succesfull game.

it is very confusing to navigate. And i think it would'nt be fun to play.

  • Makes me think of that old game Bug for the Sega Saturn. Back in the early days of the third dimension in games, could barely believe what i was seeing when I played that game!

  • Reminds me of the Bowser in the Sky level from Super Mario 64

  • Back when general 3D was still in the more moderate stages. To compare this to SM64, the first successful 3D-platformer in my opinion, is ridiculous, but I see a similarity in level design in some places. This game looks like it blows so much tho...

  • @robokou realy is there were more enemys and soniccould build up a little more speed(though i like the platforming elements in this game so they dont have to go crazy with speed) this would look great plus the game was in alpha so you realy cant judge alpha

  • The fish eye lens is actually pretty smart considering that it lets you see whats ahead when your running. I'm just sick and tired of sonic games where all you do is press RIGHT on the D-pad and watch sonic run through obstacles and loops without having to do anything. This games actually looks like you need to take your time and use platforming skills, this game looks like a lot of fun!

  • I wouldn't really know where to go...

Also, you can't practically fall down, or the player is just so good.

This may seem to be a killer concept for the programmer who is working on it, but out of nowhere for a newb i guess this would be the most frustrating thing ever. And therefore wouldn't play it long...

  • this engine would be really cool if they fixed the level design (make it a regular 2d sonic game, but with 3d alternate paths) and made sonic's animation smoother.

  • Whats this song? it sounds familiar.

  • were can i get this song?

  • @ShadowJoakop Blah, blah, blah. Go away.

  • It's a shame this was canned but to be honest I'm not sure if it would have been that great. Yeah, I know that these videos show the game in a very early stage, but it's very difficult to do a sonic game well with more than one plane. They should just have made a 2D sonic game on the saturn - it would have been brilliant but everyone was going polygon crazy at the time.

  • do you know what kind of 3D style that is? I was thinking of Spherical 3D XD

  • @ShiningFlare100 This is called the fish-eye perspective. An odd choice, should I say, but Sega has always been the world champion of experimental or out-of-ordinary things... Always way ahead of their time.

  • @KaosuKaiari XD

  • FAKE...

  • @FelfielSoulKara The game was real and was made for the sega saturn, but it got cancalled. They made a Pc version that was out for a while but later got cancalled also. Go look it up, its there.

  • @FelfielSoulKara No. Real.

  • this is the way sonic should be

  • where you got the demo?

  • why was it cancelled? and what year was this? (delevoped)

  • @SuperFunnyman001 1997, I think. Because Sega of Japan didn't like what Sega of America did with the game.

  • It's like another dimension!

  • In one way or another, it is!

  • I think he meant it equaled SM64 in the way it was made to rival SM64 and the N64, and be one of the biggest Sega Saturn games like SM64 was one of the biggest N64 games.
