  • I still have an original vhs tape of this movie that still works and I almost cried that my favorite childhood movie still plays

  • Film was on TV yesterday, haven't seen it in years! Classic!

  • a poor imitation of "consider yourself" from oliver that doesnt quite gel, but i love the rest of the film, one of my favs.

  • so basically this is the 1940's version of Ebay

  • The guy with the deep voice in the beginning of the song is Thurl Arthur Ravenscroft- he sang on the original Grinch cartoon and he was the voice for Tony the Tiger. He is a legend.

  • I still remember the exact tunes of the music. This makes me feel so nostalgic, but in a good way :)

  • What's Borat doing there at 4:35?

  • 11 People don't have souls...

  • I had this playing on my iPod as I walked up and down Portobello Road. It has surely changed, but this scene immortalizes a time in history whose magic will never be dimmed.

    Angela Lansbury is a legend.

  • Portabello Road is dangerous. It's like the hood for the elderly. Seriously, I wouldn't go there even if I knew the way.

The got Harlets in the street,

    dancing to the beat,

    An old lady with chrystals,

    Some geezer with pistols...

  • lol at 7:01 when she starts dancing XD

  • listening to this gives me a nostalgic feelin,.. it gives me the biggest grinn :D

  • I love how much diversity is shown here - the different dances and styles of music are really lovely!

  • this gave me insane expectations i was really disappointed when i went to the real Portobello Road" :-(

  • I love this movie!!!! Love this scene!!!!

  • when looking back on this song it shows what a scummy place It is, i used to think it actually was genuine D:

  • Man I wish that now a-days we still danced in the street. Go Creative Procrastination!

  • 11 people were just trying to find the other half of that book.

  • I watched this movie so many times as a kid.

  • It does capture rather neatly all the different people and cultures tht would have been living in Wartime Britain at that time.

  • haha everyones going to schoolies in 2013 but im going to london and im gonna sing portabello road XD

  • Films like this ignite a child's creative flair and imagination.

Today, all you have is re-make after re-make - no creativity or entertainment value whatsoever.

No wonder kids would rather go out and mug the elderly!!!

  • @buckbumble I just ordered this on DVD purely so when I have kids they will have something good to watch.

  • 2:18 BRUCE FORSYTH !!!!!

  • I think I love you for posting this, I keep singing the songs from this movie at work, and of course I can't do that without dancing either, even people in their eighties didn't know what I was singing O.o!

  • I think David Tomlinson was awesome :)

  • when i was little, id dance along with each one of these guys! :D XD i loved the irish giys X3 god i miss these movies and being a kid

  • @akkihanachan1 I think you mean Scottish, not Irish XD

  • @Disenchanted310 . . . well... they've been irish my whole life so they're irish to me XP XD i get the two mixed up waaaaay too much -.-; i know the differences, but.... i mix them up. TT.TT

  • It's pretty hilarious how Mr. Browne just watches that man carry Paul away at 3:42, smiling and waving.

  • @wheresolive You'd be a kiddy fiddler if you did that now.

  • films like these were the foundations of the other dancing and singing movies in later years :D....this movie had me wish that people would break out into song and dance once you do :P

  • Just give her the other half of that book! :(

  • I sang this in Portobello Road!

  • Five pounds for a piano!

  • @airnbobo a pre-decimal pound :P Imagine though! xD

  • Couldn't u just imagine this on broadway?

  • You make think I'm a right misery guts but I completely avoid Portobello Road now because I'm sick to death of every time I go down there, being caught up in all this ridiculous multi-ethnic dance shenanigans!

  • back in the day when singing out loud wasnt weird

  • 4:16 people today call that cool dancing. XD

  • In the restored version a few minutes of dance sequences were put back into this number. It was even more elaborate than this!

  • Emelius Brown... starting flashmobs on Portobello Rd. since 1971.

  • Do you remember wanting to run through the plains of Africa with Simba?

Swing through the jungle with Tarzan?

Go to the enchanted castle with Belle?

Go to the ball with Cinderella?

Ride a magic carpet with Aladdin?

    Save China with Mulan?

Shrink to toy size to play with Buzz and Woody?

Turn into mer-people and go under the sea with Ariel?

If you do or want Disney to come back, repost this in many videos to spread the message and thumbs up to keep this comment at the top.

  • I loved this movie. Around this time, Disney movies were getting infantile and boring. This was one of the last of the really good ones.

  • notice he doesn't correct the russian.

  • anything and everything a cat can unload, is bought by a pharaoh in Portobello road lol awww retarded childish mind XD

  • My favorite Movie. Disney doesn't even know(x

  • those arab dudes are legit! and so is the old man right after.

  • @doug1122003

    india.

  • @doug1122003 They're not arabs. They're more than likely supposed to be sepoys.

  • 1:17 omg...are those...'street women' in a *Disney movie*!?

First time I've seen this song in 10 years. I used to think those were dodgy friends of his, and he didn't want his nice friends meeting his dodgy ones.

    OnO *shock*

  • Q: What do Scotsmen wear beneath their kilts?

A: The future of bonny Scotland :D

  • @rofflemows2 Great Answer!:)-the Real Scotsman NEVER EVER wears anything under his kilt! but WHAT does he keep in his sporran?!

  • Did you know that they actually took out some scenes from this song? I think it was because of the time related issue but I don't remember

  • how comes that diddnt happen when i went to Portobello Road?

  • Best clip on youtube!!

  • I think it's brilliant that they involve all the Commonwelth soldiers that helped England in the Second World War. Many of these countries are constantly overlooked so it's great that some get their moment to shine :)

  • I always love the dancing scenes.

  • @TheOrangeGrandMaster they could be on leave even some troops need a little r&r

  • @‎4:36 LOVE that guys! xD

  • real men dance in kilts!

  • We shall dance on the beaches, we shall dance on the landing grounds, we shall dance in the fields and in the streets, we shall dance in the hills. . .

  • 1:15 You know, for kids!

  • Me and my dad started singing this when we went down Portabello Rd-my mum started pretending she didn't know us, fun times :D

  • @Cradz18 Did anyone join in? Did anyone start dancing?

  • @LoreneFaith unfortunately not...we did skipping and everything but no one took the hint :(

  • @LoreneFaith i did!!! :D

  • @Cradz18 I love that.

  • @LoreneFaith i sort of wish life was like that i would have joined in 2!! lol

  • @Cradz18 You probably didn't realise but your mum had been pretending she doesn't know you for many years.

  • @Cradz18 I would have come out with a steel drum and joined you XD

  • @Cradz18 we should all have a YouTube gathering in London, just so we can reenact this scene.

  • i never get tired of watching dis movie no matter how many times i saw it already

  • Dagnabbit, Disney used to be able to make music...

  • Why isn't Bedknobs & Broomsticks a West End/Broadway musical by now??

  • Woo i went portobello road & stated singing with me granddad this song XD

  • Aw this is classic to me. I used to watch this movie a lot of freakin time when I was a kid :)

  • I wish they would still make movies like this. People are so afraid of things being "Politically incorrect."

  • Gosh, wish people would do this sort of thing where I live. It'd be so exciting to simply dance and not worry about anything. Plus there'd be no way you'd get away with what Paul did to the statue at 2:04 XD.

  • I love 2:26.;)

  • 4:22 it's kinda like the pre-Robot Robot.

  • 2:14 Brucie! Nice to see you, to see you nice!

  • Oh this brings back memories!

  • Did the Portobello street market exist before the 1980s like in the movie? Or is it really a fairly recent street event in London?

  • @Ketsuname I believe that the Portobello street market has been around for a long time.

  • @Ketsuname Yes, Portobello has been goung for decades..once it was a really run -down area, more like a ''slum'' in parts, but now, sheesh, since the film ''Notting Hill'' the crumbly old houses that were all bedsits and flats are selling for six or seven Million pounds. The market was very like in this film, and still looks a bit like it, but there are very few bargains. We used to go on saturdays to spend our pocket money there It is best in winter, when most tourists are gone.

  • @Ketsuname When do you think this was filmed?

If you already know it was filmed before 1980 and still asked that question, well, I'm afraid you need to fill in a lost and found for your common sense.

  • @Ketsuname according to wikipedia the market began in the 19th century, fresh foods only but antique stalls only appeared in the 1940's/50's. I went in the 90's.

  • Rewatching this scene just reminds me of why this was my favorite live-action Disney film growing up

  • The movie industry lacks almost total imagination today. They spend all of their money and put all of their effort into (lame and unrealistic) special effects and actors that really can not act.I can't think of a recent film, particularily a Disney film, that had a good story. This movie has it all.Even the special effects in here are better and have a much realer quality compared to most made nowadays.

  • @4:19 This man is the Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Silly Walks

  • I went to Portabello Road and I couldn't stop singing this song!

  • One of my fave songs in a Disney movie ever. It's my favorite part of this whole movie. I will go to Portobello Road someday, & sing & dance along it :)

  • BEST! SONG! EVER! Or at least, it's in my top 20.

  • Hmm.... I don't know about you guys... But has anyone else noticed the cuts in the Indian (forgive the stereotyping) Dance section? I've watched it a few times now and it cuts at the same spots...

  • my kids knows this film by heart!!!!!!!!.....one is 23 now......now we dont have such a nice films for kids...only killing, and bad words.....i am very happy to find this film here on youtube...thanks!! regards from serbia, belgrade!!

  • @neika65 Hello Serbia. I agree with you, they just don't make these wonderful films anymore. I am so glad that they are still available on film for future generations.

  • @LoreneFaith Christ's cock!!!

Loren, she isn't called "Serbia" that's the country she comes from.

It's a good job they don't make films like this anymore, as it seems mid-50's American femmes learnt very little about the World from them.

David st Hubbins - HELLOOOO CLEEVEELANNDD!!!

  • @neika65 Only killing and bad words? Are you serious? I don't think you have seen only a few movies for children. Transformers, etc. Those are cartoons most children don't even watch. I mean, have you ever even noticed that most cartoons and kids shows don't have killing in them. I have never even seen a kids show where people kill each other... Name one please.

  • @neika65 at least the "killing and bad words" in films now is only acting. The people in this film actually did murder each other within ten years of this film being made.

  • That old man dancer is mr. bojangles

  • @tortugaa85 You mean Mr. Bojiagi?

  • Granny's dancing at 5:17. awesomeness!

  • I like how Mrs Price is looking for half a book, but she keeps opening the books that are in one piece. Obviously it's not the book she's looking for! :P

  • Seriously, why can't I find a soundtrack for this film?

  • 2:17 Brucie!!! Nice to see you to see you... NICE!

  • @mrtulala1 I'm surprised he didn't start dancing as well.

  • What is Brucie doing in this film?

  • i want to dance like the old man!

  • at least they got the uniforms right for the period on the troops! which is something most films fail on doing.

  • I just love the two old women when they start dancing.. their just so happy its sorta catchy xD love the film tis a really funny classic film haha.. though the old guy with the bowler hat is freaky haha

  • The closing time crier ruined everything :(

  • lolk they missed out the aussie tapdancing in this one LOL

  • 4:17 Does anyone know what this style of dance is called?

  • I wish pianos were really £5 these days ¬¬

  • @Mizarny

lol I say that everytime I watch this film :)

  • Damn, there are so much scenes missed in the german version of this film...

Thanks for uploading and greetings from Germany! :-)

  • @TyrsKrieger Greetings! Glad you enjoy the movie clips and I am glad you can see the original version of the movie now :)

  • @LoreneFaith Check out the director's cut! It's even longer, almost twice as much and includes longer versions of some of the dances. It's really amazing how much was cut from the movie overall. Too bad they couldn't save the "Step in the Right Direction" scene :(

  • I loved this movie so much as a child! *giggles*

  • NickyAiuto should make a crossover of this if he returns.

  • 4:35

    REAL MEN WEAR KILTS :D

  • @StopMotionNAnimation I totally agree! and nothing makes a man more handsome than wearing a kilt. Just about knocked me to the ground once!

  • @LoreneFaith

Haha, I think they look good too!

  • @StopMotionNAnimation The Brave Scotsmen in WW1 chose to wear kilts, which were the ''real'' sort you folded yourself...alas, the lice endemic in the trenches played havoc with everyone, but the kilts had so much fabric, there was more space for the nasty critters, and the soldiers were plagued.no one knew prior to the war that this would be a problem,Also, when the clothing got soaked in the trenches, kilts were harder to dry.Obviously designed for the Wilds of the Highlands, not trenches.

  • @Oakleaf700

    That's awful :(

I should be getting taught things like that in school, I had no idea

  • @StopMotionNAnimation Nor did I,until I started reading lots of stuff on WW1..the poor scotsmen were plagued, as were all the others, English, French German...Lice lived in their clothing, and descriptions are horrible...and the rats that crawled over their faces as they slept...it is horrific what our ancestors endured!

  • @Oakleaf700

I hope there won't be a war like that ever again.

:( Gosh, that's enough to make your eyes water, eh?

  • @StopMotionNAnimation There hopefully never will be..it won't be trench war anyway..but the things those guys went through..things that beggar belief. Mind you, Modern war is gross too, but for sheer shocking horror..WW1 takes some beating. I once went to a WW1 home for wounded old soldiers, and in one bed was an elderly man who at 16yrs old had signed up and seen such horrors he was still unable to talk..shell shock/battle stress. All this from a comment of'' REAL MEN WEAR KILTS!:)''

  • @Oakleaf700

    Yeah

But I mean, you seriously know your stuff! Are you a Historian?

  • @StopMotionNAnimation No, but like most people, ''learning'' at school was so different to the stuff you can find out when you get older, as you can choose what you are interested in..and because the old soldier's home was nearby, I was very aware of them when i was a child, as they would sit outside in the sun in summer. I expect your great - great- grandad fought, most people's families did.

  • @Oakleaf700

It's really amazing the things you can learn and the people you meet online, I'm glad I met (well, sorta met) you

  • @StopMotionNAnimation Thanks! there are some really good people online, but some ..odd ones too! and the arguments that go on, and the namecalling..but depends what type of films you watch as to the type of comments. Best of luck!

  • 7:33 since that day, i hate it when stores get closed :/

  • love this movie!!!

not gonna lie, i really wanna do the scotsman danceX)

  • love this. all the cultures, having fun with their traditional dances

  • stupid bell guy ruining all the fun... >:(

  • I love the little girl :)

  • what's the name oh tha scotish dance?

  • @MuShTaNk Man, I don't know, but that is my favorite dance in the whole scene!!! I love a man in a Kilt... since it was disney, I doubt they were regimental though ;:pout::

  • @ShaeAogiri yes same for, it's for sure a remarkable movie

  • I like the part where the White 1940's break dancers come in @3:10

  • Portobello Road Always Reminded Me Of Greenwich Market >.< In London

  • lovely to see you goodbye

  • 3:46 is funny as hell

  • @DeviCeHQ Maybe if Sadam had done that dance, they wouldn't have offed him ::Shrugs:: I woulda liked to see it anyway, lmao

  • @ 5:17...This Is My Favorite Dancing Part!!! We Did This Dance For A School Musical w/ all the Women Like This!! It was Inspired From This Movie!

  • what nationality is 5:20?

  • @JFLD8 I think it's supposed to be really bad Irish dancing

  • @TheWpj Really Bad...? Are U Serious? I Love This Part of The Movie!!

  • @JFLD8 Scottish, the soldiers were wearing kilts.

  • @Emporer2 I'm talking about the women's dance right before the Jamacian one

  • What i like about this clip, is that in a way it shows how all nationalities, with their own particular culture; came together during world war two

  • @flargle1967 except for americans which did not suffer ww2, just sent some troops and money... they do not know real war... a nice clip indeed, the real europe

  • @SanJoseCornudo Obviously you are mentally retarded. Americans won WWII because of the sacrifices of people both abroad and at home.

  • @SanJoseCornudo Hah! My uncle was paralized by a German Sniper in France. Americans parachuted into France to help the locals. (Lafayette we are here! - you know about that?) America didn't suffer? What about Pearl Harbor, silly person? The US soldiers who helped to liberate some of the camps? Every nation came together during WW2. It was a unity this world doesn't understand anymore. Oh! You're mind probably thinks simply because we didn't fight on OUR shores it means nothing. Pfft.

  • 1:58 Has anyone else noticed that when that women talks, you can see her mouth in the mirror and it doesn't move....

  • Bruce Forsyth looked so different :')

  • @Jess140594 ...well i think he can be forgiven, as it was about 40 years ago!

  • It's like the Banks family again! lolol, I haven't seen this but I want to. nothing like these old disney movies <33

  • Ah, gay old times at Portobello Road. I raly have to rewatch it.

  • This movie led to me asking a black man where his musical drum was.

I was four. That's my only excuse.

  • I was very upset when I went to Portabello road myself, and no one was singing this.

  • @pppdwandcpfanno1 You should have started singing. You could have made it happen with others joining in and then the dancing would start.....

  • @LoreneFaith I woulda joined in

  • @LoreneFaith Tried that. I just got some very funny looks.

  • @pppdwandcpfanno1 ahahahahahahahahahaha
