it probably wasn't a a two stroke. It just sounded like one when it was going through the gears. My neighbors are farmers and have a ford 9000 with a detroit in it. It is a love hate relationship. I love the sound of it but, it has a hole in the exhaust right up by the manifold and i work third shift. Makes it kind of hard to sleep when they are chopping.

To my knowledge only Detroit Diesel made two strokes, Cummins and Cat are all four strokes.
The two stroke engines have a very distinctive sound, too bad they are going away slowly. (Can't meet emissions requirements)
