Modal synthesis/physically modeled synths are extremely interesting and can create wonderful sounds, yet why are they always so inaccessible to people who aren't mutant geek monsters? Worse: why do all the snapshots on this synth sound like the same three basic sounds?
Yamaha had the right idea with their visual editor to the VL70m, except it really didn't offer any true sound design variety and was abandoned, stuck in OLD OS versions.
Will anyone ever really make physical modeling accessible?
this guy makes everything seem so easy to understand! like he doesn't just show you how to make something blindly. he shows you how to make anything you want with the knowledge of what you are doing :)
@FloridaLacrosse you don't need a program made purely for dubstep. after all, none of the successful dubstep producers ever had a "dubstep" program. anyways, the best program i know for dubstep basslines is Massive.
@dgmulf I totally agree, All I am saying is they are not reaching a crowd of their full potential by not specifically distinguishing their products to people who wouldn't stumble upon an NI synth.
@hellfirebeats there is no sound bank because reaktor isn't an instrument in itself, its basically a platform that can allow instruments/effects that have been designed for reaktor to be used. You can also use it to completely design your own instruments, effects, synths whatever bla bla etc. So yea
@spacealder Dude people have spent so much money with these software synths, it's unbelievable! Folf, just get an "access virus TI," that's all you need, specially when it comes to making "electronic music."
But I must tell you, "Kontak," is tight! Layering the "Mutations.." is really nice.
@bangelta Or soundtrack work? Or background effects on a techno track? If you cant find a good application for this type of instrument, I think it speaks more to a lack of creativity than a lack of thought on NI's part. Just my opinion. I wouldn't blame you for judging it this way though, as this demo is absolutely terrible. It doesn't even show what this synth is capable of.
@bangelta Couldn't agree more. 90% of VST instruments suck balls, and 99% of their presets are uninspiring. There are only a few quality vst synths worth getting. Reaktor isn't one of them, unless you are a film composer writing background scores for weird stuff.
@godling2007 maybe not reaktor as a whole, but Razor seems like a pretty nice synth. Still has some film composer-y aspects to it with some of the oscs and what not, but it seems like for harsher electronic genres or even ambient ones it could perform fairly well.
One thing I would not do is judge a synth-instrument by its presets; A synth should really be used for your own sound creation, working off presets is never fun.
I have this with komplete 7 which i just installed two days ago and I can honestly say it is very hard on CPU power(unless I don't have mine setup correctly yet or something) but it sounds incredible! Definetly one of a kind I have not heard any synth plug that creates the sound that prism does.

If Native Instruments made a program purely for Dubstep they would make so much money. That's what im looking for. Razor didn't do it for me =/

It's an interesting idea behind a soft-synth. I'd have to check it out for myself some time to really get a feel for what it's all about.

sounds like a free vst from Fruity Loops 2.
BenNCM 1 year ago
@BenNCM From an immature point of view possibly it is, but if you apply some original creativity using this Synth you can get very interesting sounds.
Sounds like you live from using presets and not creating your own sounds, right?

reaktor is such a profound instrument..does anyone have any idea why there are no sound bank available for it?

I don't think NI are any good at making demo videos. This shows nothing at all but a couple of gimmicks a million other synths can do.
In any case, it sounds similar to Logic's Sculpture, only more plasticky and fake.
