Madonna I think said that this was the worst song that she ever released hence the reason she didn't release this in the US. It got to number 4 in the UK and i'm suprised that music tv stations turn that back on this and to "Angel". They never seem to play the videos to them.

Two Big Mistakes of the Madonna's label in the States at this period. They should have released "Into The Groove" instead of the weak and forgettable "Angel", it could be No.1 without a doubt (if Angel was N.5, i mean). And the other mistake was not to release "Gambler" after "Crazy For You". I mean, this was a moment of "Madonnamania" around the world, "Gambler" could easily been a Top 5 in the US same as the International charts, without been detrimetal to her success.

Well... I was about 12 then, but I remember "Gambler" clearly - even now I can remember the lyrics. It was quite a hit here in Peru (and I think all over South America). I just learned that it never became a single in the States... maybe that's why this song has always been underrated. I have a remix of the song, but this upload has allowed me to listen to the original version. Thanks.

@mcfr4791 I think it wasn't released because of the big number of singles released there in 1985 - Material Girl, Crazy for You, Angel, Dress You Up, Like a Virgin was still in the charts in early 1985 and Into the Groove [also non-US single] was shown on TV. I guess they were affraid the song could miss the top5 after Angel and Dress You Up peaked at 5. Either way, I love this song!

This was my favourite Madonna song back then...for loads of reasons...expressive...raw...e­xciting. The funny thing was I could only get it on the B-side of a weird rare non-Madonna 45record I found in the market... Anyway, one half of the record had been completely snapped but, somehow, it still played perfectly!

I first heard it on the 'Like a Virgin' tour (VHS) and she blew me away... a dancing maniac in the strobe light and wind machines... Excellent!
