  • Music music music people in front people!

    Yeahh!

  • "your music outlast yourself"...genious...

  • CONCORDO!!!

Comparar os mutantes com o cordel do fongo no RABO é fóda!!!

    KKKKKKKKK

  • er, uh, no one wants to mention the writer of this track GILBERTO GIL???

  • hey dannieldf, larga de ser escroto em comparar os Mutantes com o Cordel do Fogo no RABO! Essa banda é uma merda, uma desgraça e Os Mutantes são incomparaveis. Pare de blasfemar, porra!

  • Bat Macumba Eheh! Bat Macumba Oba! Bat Macumba Eheh Bat Macumba Bat Macum Bat Ma Bat Bat Ma Bat Macum Bat Macumba Bat Macumba Eheh * Its only a kind of word kidding
  • @dannieldf (Eu sou brasileiro - I'm brazilian)

You say that cuz you don't know things about portuguese language. And I have to say that you wrote it wrongly. At first take a course of brazilian culture and history, so you may be able to say something differently of "Its only a kind of word kidding"

  • Suggestions about Brazilians bands that the sound match (or not) to Mutantes sound:

    - Secos e Molhados

    - Raul Seixas

    - Gilberto Gil

    - Caetano Veloso (I dont appreciate him)

Now adays, maybe the most close band to Mutantes kind is "Cordel do Fogo Encantado".

But I really love any other brazilian bands...

  • cordel do fogo encantado O CARALHO

  • I think I saw Charles Mason singing and clapping...

  • Sure Serginho...can you remember Serra da Cantareira?...the Bug?...British Flag all over?...e voce pedindo pelo amor de Deus por mais um baseado?...maybe not....

  • galera burra da bexiga...

ninguém aqui sabe falar português não, é???

    Bárbaros!!!

  • no, you.

  • Cala a boca.

  • It bust have been such an honour to have played with Os Mutantes.

  • that was a reply to some hater. youtube is borked. carry on.

  • I don't mean to sound stupid (as my wife says, it's in my nature) but what does "Bat Macumba" translate to in English. This is one of my favorite songs, and my 5 year old asked me what it was about the other day. I stood there looking pretty dumb....

  • "Macumba" is a an Afro-Brazilian religion involving syncretistic elements, mainly practiced by black people in urban centers, or it can just be the name of the witchcraft these people practice xD

"Bat" is not a word, it's just a sound, but it saounds like the word that means "beat", so it's something like "Beat Macumba" or "Beat Witchcraft"

and yeah, it doens't make any sense =P, so you can tell your son it doens't mean nothing XD

  • There is also the "Batman" element to it. Batmobile, Bat-phone, Bat-macumba... you get it. They actually say "Batman" at one point in the song and they even play a "Batman theme" tease in the middle.

  • "macumba" is almost identical to "voodoo" thing.

  • And just completing what Samuel said:

"bat" sounds like "bate" that means "the act of beating":

    'ele bate' = 'he beats'

that's what he mean to said.

It's all a play with words and meanings.

  • And "bat" ("beat") is how the military dictators treated the Brazilian people between 1964 and +- 1985. The sound of "bat", that turns it into the "beat" meaning, means what the militaries did: to beat, to torture, to kill opponents: the people.

  • The Mutantes recorded this song during the Tropicalia, an artistic movement that sought to integrate and recycle elements of pop media, mass media, erudition industrialization as well as primitive, folklore elements. So this is BAT (as in BatMAN) and Macumba (a voodoo). So it will much more powerful than a voodoo if it is a BAT VOODOO. The rest of the lyrics fuse similar imageries (Beatles, comic books, African Gods, etc). This is cut and paste way be4 computers were a staple of modern societ

  • you sir, are a simpleton. fix it.

  • The people behind that Pitchfork Festival really know how to put on a show! I saw Sonic Youth do a complete album live this year! Os Mutantes and their music make life worth living. God Bless Os Mutantes and Pitchfork!!

  • The best band from Brazil.

  • oS ANJOS DO sUL TUDO FOI FEITO PELO SOL MEU PASSAPORTE É ESPACIL SOU CIDADÃO DA TERRA E A MINHA VIDA É TODA VERDADE E U NÃO TENHOMAIS IDADE NO JARDIM ELÉTRICO

  • Cmon, Stinky, you did not explain this whole thing, so I might get whatever my interpretation is. It is just taht it is so obvious to say "they are boring when they get old". We'll all get old. Depends on how old are you, in the first place. I am not old. But old enough to get the difference already. Cheers!

  • as for his brother, he is not only older, but went really deep in drugs, lives in a very cute cotage in the mountains of my city and... TA DA... released a CD. Guess what? Genious. So really... if you dont like it ok... but blaming on age... is too naive of something to say. Cheers!

  • ...hummm... perhaps you are kinda deaf. i interviewed the guy in Brazil - Sergio Diaz - and i can tell you atht what he thinks about music, his conceptions when making it and having this as a true reason for his life is mind blowing, as much as how he plays. being old is just what happens to all of us, i do not see your point.

  • From Brazil, 60's. Our first true ROCK band. But there are only 2 originals there. Ciao :)

  • In fact there are 3 originals, don't forget the drummer Dinho Leme.

  • Really great clip! Sergio Diaz seems really sweet! Not surprising.
