Debbie Reynolds FIRST took over Bacall's role in this before Welch -- I didn't see Welch but a friend told me she actually stopped the show mid-performance to consult with the script manager -- the audience loved it -- but it goes to show you Welch was all glamour and sales, versus disciplined stage actress.
@Eldoray Even Lauren Bacall isn't necessarily Lauren Bacall. My friend's aunt saw Bacall in the Boston production of Noel Coward's "Waiting In The Wings," about a week before we did, and reported to us Bacall had to call out "Line" to the script supervisor a few times during the play.
@Eldoray It shouldn't be forgotten Bacall (and Welsh too, for that mattter) was primarly a performer in films, where the rules are a little more relaxed than in the live, theatrical profession, that demands the discipline of memorization of one's lines.
In fact, it seems Bacall advanced this trend of film performers appearing in Broadway productions, a trend that has grown to ridiculous proportions today.
There was a time actors went from stage to film, a more logical practice.
My teenage daughter and her friend did this as a musical theatre duet in our local festival last week. It was hilarious- I am going to get permission from the other girl's parents and post it on youtube
You're absolutely right. Marilyn Cooper and Lauren Bacall did it for those Tony Awards - they were in the original Cast. That night Marilyn Cooper won the Tony Award (Supporting); later on Ms. Raquel Welch took over for Ms. Bacall during the latter's vacation.
I knew they did that number at the Tonys. They also did Bacall's title number (or maybe it was One of the Boys).
On a funny note, Marilyn is a friend of my sister's. As a joke my sister had her call me at my office two years ago and sing that number (and the one from Two By Two!) for me on my birthday! I can tell you she was letter perfect on both. She's a true gem!
That's great! What a voice. Great actress too. By the way, the original cast of "West Side Story" on Broadway lists a 'Marilyn Cooper'. Could that be the same lady? I would not be surprised! I also saw her on You Tube in an episode of "Alice", singing with Linda Lavin!
They are one and the same. Marilyn was a close friend of the struggling Sondheim in the 50's. She appeared in numerous shows throughout the 60's and 70's. Even shared a dressing room with Barbra during Wholesale. Class Act!!
Yup, that was the same Marilyn Cooper. She played Rosalia in the original Broadway production of West Side Story. She was also in Gypsy (played Agnes). Of course I got this information, well confirmation, from Copper's NY Times obituary.
Update - There are a gazillion more verses and choruses. I've just put-up a clip of the entire song. See the "6:26" video response that's above these comments.
Oh, if only the entire song with Marilyn and Lauren could have been recorded! I saw them do it B'Way and it remains the funniest musical number I've ever seen.
Woman of the year is an amazing musical... i want it to be done again on broadway. i did this show in vancouver 4 years ago, and fell in love with it!

Didn't Lauren & Marilyn do this on the 1981 Tony Awards? I remember it. It brought down the house.

Not that I remember [Lauren performing], even though Lauren and Marilyn both won Tonys!

I'll always regret not seeing this show, let alone with Raquel in it because she got fabulous reviews, and I heard that she was great.

No, a verse and chorus were chopped-out in this version. Hey, how much of Rachel's voice can the human ear withstand!
