@vinottimotube Definetly and every time psychedelic, thats Sound not Music...Sound is stands over Music cant be classified because its Sound nothing else, can take your mind away, tellss stories ....that commercial shit in the medias is Music because that is no Sound and can be classified created to make mone like a machine.
To everybody, ciao, Enzo is my name,Italian,57 years old, 6 times on Pink Floyd Live concerts......not to name Genesis,Yes,King Krinsom blablabla.......sombody from my age? Did we believe we could change things or not? Did we believe exploring our minds was "natural"? Do peoples know what "Pink Floyd" was...not to say tried? Police was waiting for us just to beat their sticks on our bodies...in Italy..it was a Fight....we were..warriors, and the Pigs.....did somebody understood the meaning?
Not to throw a wrench into this debate folks but does anyone remember David Cousins. The Strawbs, early Yes, and early Genesis defined my idea of Progressive Rock along with King Crimson and others.
Hey, maybe I'm living in the past but I just thought I'd throw that out there!

@tkdmuffin Pink Floyd was the most "popular" Progresive Rock band, but that doesnt make them better, in my opinion King Crimson and Van der graaf Generator where better, they didnt have "pop" songs and they were making prog while Pink Floyd was still playing "beatles style" (1969). I still find "Red" album unbeatable, its almost perfection. Dont take me wrong ,am a Pink Floyd fan, my favorites songs are Echoes, Pigs, Dogs, Have a cigar, etc. But i sense a bit of populism in most of their songs.
@CrimsonKingl2 Everyone's free to like what they like, and "best ever" is a bit of a pointless description. But I do take issue with your last remark about populism in [PF] songs. They are popular, but populism - does that even mean anything? Those who claim some other band are superior because they are more proggy (or whatever) are the same kind of people as those classical music snobs who think anything written in the 20th century is automatically inferior because it isn't "classical" enough.
@tfn105 First i will start saying i agree with all you said. I never said that something popular was automatically inferior or bad, i just tried to said that POPULISM was opposite to prog. We are falling in a large discussion so am going to try to make this short, Prog in some way is a new way to do things, is something experimental and unpopular BY DEFINITION. We all know the majority of ppl dont want to "think" or to criticize their own lives, they want things to NOT DO IT....
@CrimsonKingl2 The point I'm getting at is that just because something is popular, that doesn't automatically tarnish it. People can be quick to jump on success as if it is something bad. There are plenty of bands that don't get enough recognition, and I find a lot of fans of less well-known bands cling to that obscurity and use it as a trophy - that their favourite is somehow a purer version of music and it's less well-known because people "just don't get it". (I like Crimson King, by the way!)
@tfn105 Do you know how i know this?, because they dont have songs like starless, with almost "annoying" solos, that portrait the paranoia, distress with that sincerity that is almost cruel, and you can find that sincerity thats indiferent of being popular or not in almost all of their songs. Try to listen, House with no door or Still life from VDGG or Level Five, Cirkus, etc from King Crimson and you will see what am talking about.
@tfn105 I finish this clarifying more the issue, am not saying Pink Floyd is an inferior band at the contrary, maybe they are "better" as a rock band just depends on the angle, but as a PROG BAND they are a just a bit behind of other more "puristic" groups in my opinion, because they intentionally avoided a lot of negative topics, complexity and the level experimentation that a prog band needs in my opinion. And thats the reason majority of Pink Floyd fans dont listen prog. regards
@CrimsonKingl2 Interesting points. I don't agree with your definition of prog rock, though. And even if I did, you're exhibiting exactly the mentally I described with classical music snobs. I love Starless, but I could equally argue there are shades of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" (which preceded it) in it. There is very little comfortable about the screaming in the middle. I'm not sure PF had the thoughts you mentioned. Just seemed to me they found their sound in the end. Cheers
@tfn105 so being popular isnt the root of the problem, the problem is using populism in your "songs" to attract people, because REALITY isnt popular, is sometimes "ugly" and complex and very, very profound, and for much i like Pink Floyd, i dont sense the amount of reality and sincerity i a lot of their songs. Am going to give you and example, i bet that when Pink Floyd made their songs, they were thinking.. this fits but we need to make it "prettier" and "catchy", because is a bit too complex..
@Nvrmind89 No.... that *is* the Doctor Who theme. It's on the Meddle LP version, too, just not as noticeable. (Hell, the bass part of "Sheep" - more specifically the early live version "Raving And Drooling", was based on the Doctor Who theme.)
the annoying thing of these shows is that David Mallet recorded it on video on 4:3 and not on film on 16:9 and so theres bugger all chance of getting it put to HD......
i saw the show in Prague (no idea they were playing just very lucky)....amazing to be there....
i was there....wot a fucking night....there were a hell of a lot of narcotics consumed that night...i laughed my head off when i got my ticket...it said on it....NO SMOKING...yeah right...i was high off the smoke without having a joint....the memories will live with me forever.......
Does anybody know what amplification the bass player uses to make that beautiful ringimg sound? I want to get it but my crate doesn't seem to be up the mark.
Oh the good old days of MUSIC. When artists were masters of their instruments, sang without the aid of autotunes, and could understand music beyond four basic chords and a drum beat. And actually made MUSIC.
I was fortunate to be able to see both Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You Were Here shows and all I can say is INCREDIBLE..The only stage shows I've seen that even come close to Pink Floyds is the U2 360 tour
@MaximoMoretti - it is actually a fact that whilst the DR Who Soundtrack was being laid down in Abbey Studios in London, Pink Floyd were at the studios as well, they were soimpressed that they took a little of it themselves and intoduced it as an homage in this song !! FACT
Pink Floyd met Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1966. She was a big influence on their experiments with electronic music. So the Dr. Who references in One of These Days and Sheep was a tribute to her.
@Pulsar89 yeah, for sure they meet her at BBC,the thing is when the music was recorded pink floyd not was even a band yet, and they couldn`t be there when R.Grainer n D.Derbyshire created recorded the theme at BBC RW, they meet after that of course, as everyone knows...time travelers? dr who?
I encourage all you people Want to know more about her and her musical relevance, watch the documental:
Delia Derbyshire - Sculptress of Sound. available on youtube.
@cbhull the Dr who 'travelling through time n space sound' was created by Delia Derbyshire in 1963 at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the complete track (composed by Ron Grainer) was recorded there too, mastered i dunno..)
Pink floyd first album was in '67 I think so, the only way your history could be plausible is if Pink Floyd's members were time travellers!!. if you are sceptical watch delia derbyshire documental on youtube
I have no idea if this is true or not but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. I heard somewhere that on this tour they often had three crews. One taking down the last show, one at the current show, and the other setting up the next show. Again, no idea if its true but looking at those effects I wold totally believe it.
Yes, they had three stages. According to wiki, they needed 53 trucks and a crew of 161 people. Construction alone cost them about $30 million, but the tour grossed $250 million worldwide.
@bluedragonis We didn't get Take It Back or One of These Days, Instead we got Astromony Domine, What do You Want From Me, A Great Day for Freedom, and I would trade all three for One of These Days. So I would guess they wanted more material from Division Bell on the album.
The people responsible for Pink Floyd's lighting and special effects are just as genius as the band! As for the 32 dislikes, go watch you some Boy George!

@MaximoMoretti
Yes, I know. cbhull was wrong about that.
Pulsar89 6 months ago
@cbhull the Dr who 'travelling through time n space sound' was created by Delia Derbyshire in 1963 at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the complete track (composed by Ron Grainer) was recorded there too, mastered i dunno..)
Pink floyd first album was in '67 I think so, the only way your history could be plausible is if Pink Floyd's members were time travellers!!. if you are sceptical watch delia derbyshire documental on youtube
nothing more to say

I have no idea if this is true or not but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. I heard somewhere that on this tour they often had three crews. One taking down the last show, one at the current show, and the other setting up the next show. Again, no idea if its true but looking at those effects I wold totally believe it.

@bushbasher85
Yes, they had three stages. According to wiki, they needed 53 trucks and a crew of 161 people. Construction alone cost them about $30 million, but the tour grossed $250 million worldwide.

I'm pretty sure the lighting guy has a little button that says 'Go Mental' that he pushed when everyone came in together.

You could dispute Pink Floyd being the best band ever, but why? For God's sake, why man? Just take a seat, chill out, and listen.......

Why is this not on the pulse live album?
bluedragonis 7 months ago
@bluedragonis We didn't get Take It Back or One of These Days, Instead we got Astromony Domine, What do You Want From Me, A Great Day for Freedom, and I would trade all three for One of These Days. So I would guess they wanted more material from Division Bell on the album.

The people responsible for Pink Floyd's lighting and special effects are just as genius as the band! As for the 32 dislikes, go watch you some Boy George!
Chili1369 7 months ago 47
@Chili1369 Lol the band is actually responsable for the special effects. This is PinkFloyd we are talking about.

I'll let you finish, but Live at Pompeii had the best performance of One of These Days of ALL TIME.
PopeSnarkyIII 7 months ago 2
If they had only performed this one song for P U L S E it would still be the greatest gig of all time!
