  • why does he puff his cheeks.

  • Am I The Only Person Who Watched Like 10 Seconds Of This Video And Then Stopped It Cuz The Dude Looked Like He Was Gonna Explode?

  • Bassoon

  • dont puff your cheaks out

  • @teuakia68 It's called circular breathing. It keeps steady air flow through your horn while you breathe through your nose.

  • I noticed there are no holes for first 2 fingers, how do you half hole?

  • @urchicksnewman I would think that you wouldn't have to half hole on the contra.

  • great !!!!!!!!!! ^^

  • TOQUE EM FRENTE DO ESPELHO ....COM ESSA GESTICULAÇÃO VC AMEDRONTA A CRIANÇA OU MATA OS VELHINHOS DE RIR

  • Amazing! I had no idea this instrument even existed. I'm totally unaware of it...what composers us this in their music? Fantastic playing and sight reading too!

  • OMG look at his cheeks. . . they're like balloons!!

  • Idk much about bassoon but this Contra sounds kinda like a Contrabass sax

  • I supose that you haven't been choosed...but carry on! you are not bad!

  • bach xD

  • You Are Amazing but try not to puff those cheeks and you will be amazing those puffy cheeks are just not really attractive.

  • If he puffs his cheeks any more I'm going to cry. His playing is great though!!

  • watch his eyebrows!!:) u play clarinet i want to play oboe but somehow i got here?!?

  • It's a frog Contrabassoon! XD

  • Awesome playing!

  • Cheek action!

  • notice 0:47 his cheeks puff a lot and eyes rise. LOL

  • Awesome job! When I clicked on this the last thing I was expecting to hear was Bouree!! I play bassoon and that is what I am working on right now. Hearing it in closish to the same register is amazing...it must have been awful to play.

  • i didn't know you could play an instrument with your eyebrows

  • I the puffing out your cheeks a bad habit you're trying to kick, or is it a good thing?

  • @CatFlashBlue haha hes circular breathing! Its really cool but VERY hard to master lol.

  • So much instrument. Such a tiny reed. .-.

  • tighten your mouth and and put my reed in your mouth and you'll have so much more control. your an awesome player! :P

  • @tim07chase It's called circular breathing lol . & you don't put much reed in your mouth for that . c(:

  • its so cool! (ps. were u trying to cover urself at 1:17 or was it just a coincidence?)

    Nice :)

  • this my solo for french horn this past year at state. lol THE WHOLE THING haaa

  • this my solo for french horn this past year at state. lol

  • And I thought the bassoon was hard to play........

  • Great playing! I don't understand either why did the YSO expect the contrabassoonists to play the bouree in such a high register. Absolutely nonsense! May I ask which mark of contrabassoon do you play?

  • Comment removed

  • @AaronAwsomness hes circular breathing, he knows what hes doing. and you can clearly see his embouchure never changes. The man can play.

  • Try not puffing out your cheeks, put more reed in your mouth and use more of an overbite. That might help your control a bit...

  • I play regular bassoon (only for 2 weeks now) but I'm pretty sure that with breath instruments (especially woodwinds) you are not supposed to puff your cheeks. I have played low instruments before so I know it is very hard but from what I know this rule applies to all instruments. Then again I may be an idiot who thinks he knows everything and gives other people bad advice :)

  • Nice job. And I love the Dizzy Gillespie cheeks.

  • Sorry if I'm being dumb or if this is mentioned elsewhere, but is this transposed?

Did the Youtube symphony give you the music?

  • @BexLOLZ That's not a dumb question at all. In fact, asking it makes you more aware than the people at the Youtube symphony. It is transposed...up a fifth. That places it in an absurd register of the contra. I am sure it was a mistake on their part but that is the part they sent out, an arrangement for string bass. They did not take that into consideration with their judging so you will notice that none of the contra finalists are in the Youtube orchestra this year. Unfortunate.

  • @PoseidonRM So no one got on? it was ridiculous! i learnt it at that register and posted the vid up. it was solid! never mind though :)

    this sounds good

  • Just voted for you, man. Fantastic playing!!

  • great job! i'm sure you will travel to sydney =D

congratulations for a spanish bassoonist see my video and vote it if you like

    thanks!

  • @adri894oo Thanks a lot. :)

  • Hey man, Well played. I enjoyed the Peek-a-boo scene in the Bourree II. Did you hear about the Contrabassoonist with one of the Orchestra's I think I Pennsylvania or New York, one of my great friend from Utah Symphony posted something about it and the different types of Contrabassoon's he uses! But hey, will you inbox me? I would like to hear more of what you thought on the Comments on YTSO's Channel? And again I'm not mad I completely far from it, I just want to hear other peoples opinions.

  • Nice job!

  • I knew someone out there would grab that Bouree by the horns and make it sound ridiculously easy, which it ISN'T (I for one, chickened out). Beautifully done, good luck! (:
