You are soooo SMART for taking so well care of her. She must like you for doing that. I think I'm going to use the vitamin water Idea on mine. How Is she doing now? :)
She couldn't move 3 of her back legs and abdomen had a dent. I was 6 when I met her and I didn't like spiders. My mom was scared of them. But it was sad how they treated her. So we thought we just need to feed and water and then set her free. We didn't even know what type she was! I learned a lot. I also give her special water that is boiled and stored in copper. Her blood is copper based so it is good for circulation and makes her shine!
You guys deffinately did your research knowing about the copper in the blood. I feed my waxworms on Whole Bran (has %10 copper). Hoping it has benefits to my spiders.
Yep. They moved to a new location but same treatment. The owner is really nice and takes in unwanted reptiles but the staff was awful. They closed shop in our town permanently after second report but might have openend somewhere else.
That is such a beautiful spider! We have some wild black tarantulas where I live. And if I am very lucky sometimes I will see one. I had one by my door a few months ago. They are very good to have around. ;) Your spider is very lucky that you and your mother saved her.
She was badly dehydrated in a pet store. She also was so weak my mom and I had to handfeed her for 5 weeks to get her strong enough on her own. I guess she got used to it.
She's very cute and 'thick'. I want one, but I don't want to go through the trouble of dealing with insects and such. Nor do I want to mess up and get it sick or something.
Always have a full water bowl. In the pet store they have sod on bottom. I have this stuff because my mom buys it for the guinea pigs. I just take out was is soggy and replace. All you have to do is toss in 5 crickets every 2 weeks. More if it eats them. My mom doesn't like touching the crickets so she asks them to bag 5 in one bag and 10 in the other(for my beardie) in case she needs to feed. There's moist food in a bowl in there (yellow top right) for the crickets so they don't bite her.
Oh, well thanks! I didn't think about asking to bag the crickets up in 'groups' for easier feeding. That'd help a bunch. I also didn't think about feeding the crickets. That would not be cool if the crickets started to bite her.
Strawberry uses her paws to "taste" and recognize. She even remembers who didn't hold her right and tries to leave- still no biting.
But our neighbor's daughter held Strawberry. And she was sensitive to the hairs and couldnt' stop itching on her hands then her face. So you might want to try holding one first. None of my other friends or me have a problem holding her.
Strawberry knew how to get out of her cage with the flip lid on the top. This is a slide lid.
Do remove the poison from the tarantula before learning to pick it up?(lol.)Guess I'll learn lots from your ...nature videos. Thanks for posting and inviteing me.
She had to be hand fed for weeks to get her strength up from the pet store starving and dehydrating her.
I mixed lizard meal( there's none for tarantulas where I live) with water and fill a syringe with no needle and put it in her mouth and feed her. Then massage her fangs.
So she still likes her fangs and carapace massaged.
If she were to get upset, she would try to hide in her cave, stand up really high and finally flick hairs off her abdomen.
cheesypanda1 how did came up with the name strawberry

Sorry at the end it's the blue bowl of yellow jelly. It's moist food for the crickets.
I've seen her eat a little of it too once.

She is so gentle she runs from mean crickets instead of attacking unless she's hungry.
It's cute how scratches herself. And whenever I clean and put back her water bowl, she runs to check it with each of her paws.
She pulls her knees up to cover her eyes from a bright light like if I forget to cover the cage when I move her.

dude u got me rly wanting a tarantula :) but my mom keeps saying no.... she thinks it will get out of the cage and bite someone :P

tarantulas have no poison. They have venom that isn`t even close to being deadly as poison. Guess I'll learn lots from your ...Little problem.

Mine did, but she needed to be rescued from a bad place. My mom pretends she's an 8 legged kitty cat. LOL.
Actually they have retractable claws like cats and groom.
