Lance tested positive for corticosteroid at 1999 TDF his positive test was cleared illegaly by UCI to avoid an other scandal after Festina. EPO was found in 8 of his 1999 samples in 2004 by retrotesting.

The article is aimed to find a natural explanation for Lance his outstanding achievement. Lance continued his training sesions during his entire disease. Yes. First of all, Lance does not have the highest VO2 max on record-not even close.

LeMond has a recorded VO2 max of 92.5 (highest ever recorded) compared to Lance's at 85.

Miguel Indurain also has a higher recorded VO2 max of 88.

Lance does not own any of the fastest ascents mountain climbs in the TDF.

His 7 wins were more about strategy, time trials (both individul and team) and making calculated attacks with the support of a strong team.
