yes, it is stupid but the dvd liscensing and that crap would make the wii be abnormally priced.

so i dont think people want to play a 600 dollar wii compared to 200 just cause it can play dvd's.

and just because one thing is better in some areas many people focus on does not mean its worthless. thats the problem in society. so im not into games very much now. i joined the Academy of Model Aeronautics which is WAY MORE FUN THAN VIDEO GAMES (but i still gotta have ma wii)

The Wii is a great system with some great games, and Nintendo refuse to put DVD support on the current console, because they just rather not(they may be holding out for the Wii HD). The Wii does not have the capability of displaying HD images, so it cannot upscale to 1080p, so DVD would be pointless from the point of view that the release would be below the current standard of DVD players, as upscale is now a necessity. They've decided to let the homebrewers do it instead.

IF THE WII CAN PLAY DVDS WHY CAN'T NINTENDO MAKE ITS OWN OFFICIAL CHANNEL THAT CAN DO THE SAME THING!!!! I mean why should you have to do something illegal to your wii if you want to do this watch. Why can't nintendo make a channel for it. It is not like its impossible because it has been done and its no like they would have to recreate the wii, all the would have to do is a bit of software.....

it cost for them to add that licence, which would make the wii cost more, that is why they don't do it i think, this is not illegal just frowned a pone. as long as you are not using iso or things like that, then homebrew is fine.

Please enlighten me, because the Xbox costs just as much as the Wii and has a DVD player (not that I like the Xbox AT ALL), and people say DVD all the time without paying for a royalty. I'm not saying I don't like the wii, but I just want to know what you mean by that.

its kinda hard for me to explain, its just like when a system or device has the ability to play mp3, they have to buy the right to do that, and that is the same with the ability to play dvds you have to pay for the license, and the reason why the x-box cost the same now is because of price drops, it was more money.

There are three other ways to get Homebrew Channel!:

Smash Stack - Use Super Smash Bros. Brawl, never used before

Indiana Pwns - Use LEGO Indiana Jones, never used before

Bannerbomb (recommended ! ! ! ) - Use NO GAME ! Used this to get Homebrew Channel ! Though, if you have 4.2 (like me . . . ) , you gotta use Bannerbomb v2 to get it. V1 is for other versions!

One of the reasons the wii doesn't allow easy dvd playback (such as a dvd channel) is that it would make it slightly easier to copy and burn games. As of now, an unmodded wii without homebrew only accepts specific nintendo key-signed discs, and a dvd-playing wii would have to accept all discs.

Also, they have to pay royalties to get it working as a dvd player.

Yes and no, it cost money to have there consol play dvds, but it could have it still this means nintendo could do an update and it might be able to play them still. but it is odd.
