It was more about returning to platforming than simply trying to give Mario new abilities, which while fun and varied in SMB3, I simply thought they balanced it out much more here and not to mention the boss battles becoming quite distinct from each other (for the most part) which before hand you really didn't see unique bosses in a single platform game. Sure, you had slight varations but world really set a path.

I personally consider SMW to be the weak link in the big five Mario games (SMB3, SMW, SM64, SMG1, SMG2) in many respects, and while soundtrack is one of them, this is certainly better than its Mario 3 equivalent...then again Mario 3 didn't have much emphasis on fortresses or castles or anything.

Oh well, this is an awesome song, 'nuff said.
