I saw this movie before the book, and now that I'm reading the book, this movie is a very very bad version of the book. It's a shame they couldn't do a good blockbuster. It has potential. Well, all of King's novels have that potential.
@SrJimmyZOSO yes I agree, his books are more interesting then scary but still there are some good ones too like salems lot, creepshow and IT (which is a bad movie but I enjoyed it :D)
I remember watching this trailer on the Dead Alive VHS tape and thinking wow I want to watch this. Now that I have seen the Nostalgia Critic review I don't think so lol.
Most agreed, Stephen King movies are usually dog shit but his books are fantastic. Take the book Dreamcatcher for example. In the movie they made a character, who is not an alien in the book, an alien....what???
This is King's version of Body Snatchers. This film introduced me to Marg Helgenberger. I always thought her character in this was very virginal until she got repossessed. That virginal thought proved wrong when you see her in Species where there's a one-second shot of her boobs. So I stand corrected ; )
This is one of my favorite books ever!!! but i think the film was quit interested! not as good as the book apparently but worth to watch! i liked it!! although i really wanted to see that bitch Anne DIE!!!
Only 1 Stephen King based movie was ever close to the book and that was The Dark Half. It was nearly 100% verbatim. Nearly all other films based on his books are complete crap.
@alSation81 Yeah because you have obviously read them I'd be surprised if you even know your ABC's let alone be able to grasp and comprehend what Stephen King imagines i doubt you are able to reads Mister Men let alone The King of Horror. Give me a break. Let me guess you are just Twitard who got all hurt with King speaking the truth. Sigh.
@EndlessLaymon I think Stephen King is clever with some of his ideas ... but "horror"? Really, this is "horrifying" to you? I don't get all the personal attacks from trolls about one simple comment.
@alSation81 I never said anything about this miniseries being horrifying. I was referring to his books that are ''horrifying'' not his adaptations. I was pointing that you are basing you ideas on King's talent as a storyteller of horror on his films . That is what I was implying. Have you even read a King book? Because you can't judge a writer by his subpar adaptations
@alSation81 . I don't get all the personal attacks from trolls about one simple comment. Um could you word that better because i really can't fathom what you are e trying articulate.
@alSation81 Quantity not quality? Have you even read any of his books. The Green Mile itself proves he can write. Or The Stand, IT, Different Seaosn's.. Tell me have you read any of his books? or are you just trying to fight with his fans? It seems all you do is judge him on his adaptations not the novels he produces. And for the record many Stephen King movies are shit stick to the books which you most likely don't read.
@alSation81 So basically arguing about Stephen King with someone who doesn't read his work is a pointless waste of time. Like I will rearticulate you can't judge a writer by his movies . This god awful mini-serie's does not do justice to the book which is actually very good and the mini-series isn't a good representation of the book
@EndlessLaymon sorry for being a pain .... I have read four of his books and yes the Green Mile and Shawshank and Misery and Stand by Me were masterpieces of film. I guess the original point I was making was that calling it "horror" is a stretch; Carrie, Christine or It - let alone Tommyknockers or Langoliers or The Stand ... I just don't find it 'scary.
@alSation81 Well that is your opinion and I respect that I would defiantly call IT and Christine straight up horror tales. Tommyknockers is more sci-fi The Stand though having a few creepy moments is defiantly not horror.
i find this trailer really annoying. i watched this film as a young kid and it scared the hell out of me, n i remember it being really creepy. then i watch the trailer as a now 18 year old and it seems more like a family /kids movie. wtf? and that trailer voice over completely ruins anything scary about the film. shit trailer motherfuckers!!
All this is the work of just the one alien who's mind controling these people and making them do it's dirty work or making them become alien like itself
I remember seeing part of this as a kid and I found it to be pretty scary. I never came to the part with the alien like creatures though, that would have spoiled it. But the tension building up in the first half made a great atmosphere.
I didn't like the film. None of the actors/actresses fit the description of the characters. The script was way way off. And the movie altogether didn't live up to the intensity of the novel.
I kinda like some of the cast. To certain extent.. Jimmy Smitts was cool so was E.G Marshal as Ev Hillman. If only The Tommyknockers instead of The Shining was the King book Kubrick has adapted for the screen. HE could have made sure it had the book's ugliness, cynicism, and grit were in the film. Much as I like The Shining, it really is kind of overblown for a movie mostly about four people.
@Bastige56 You really should, it's fantastic. Especially the second part that centers around the residents of Haven, and the effects the ship has on them.
never made it to finish the book.... too big, made me bored... i'm a huge king's fan, though, since i was a kid, have read the majority of his work... anyway, the film was kinda terrible... :S
In comparison to the book the movie was pretty poor they were different too, worth a watch though great original sci-fi movie with terrible special effects but who cares
Wow... this looks AWFUL!!! The book was amazing, but this looks so bad I cannot believe it. Some things that King writes should never be put into visual...
@burstmatress Totally agree, the Tommyknockers book is so good... I read it over and over and over and it scares me over and over... ;D I ♥ Stephen King!!!
@izzysuperfan That book is scary. I would read a chapter of it at 2 in the morning in my room. After the chapter, i would hesitate to read another one. hahaha! I've been wanting to watch the movie but geez-us! It's so hard to get it. I can't get it on Netflix or youtube. Do you insist on any other books of S.K? Note que vienes de Mexico...apoco sale ese libro en espanol? Or do you know english extremely well?
@him3zz Ese libro también salió en español :) I love every book written by King. In my bookshelf I have Carrie, Christine, the Shining, Green Mile, Duma Key, Under the Dome, Cujo, Rage, It, the Dead Zone, Salem's Lot, Misery and Cell. Of course all of them in spanish. Well, I saw a TV show based on Tommyknockers and it was good, but not enough good as the book is. :S Viva México :)
The book was way much better and more creapier as they turned into aliens in the book. The movie was so corny they should remake it and do it more like the book.
@jkiins holy shit me too, this movie brings back a lot of good memories, me and all my friends used to try to play pretend to this movie.....good times......
Love this story. Just finished the book. Its as if the Overlook Hotel from "The Shining" was instead a U.F.O buried in the earth, and giving everybody in town "the shining" ability.
I don't know if it's just the trailer, but I just finished reading the book, and this looks drastically different from it. For example, there weren't any living Tommyknockers in the book.
@AdudenamedKemp Um , The Tommyknockers were The Vessels , not The Actual Aliens .The Aliens were feeding on The Tommyknockers` Energy(as well as the Energy of Those `zapped' by The Tommyknockers) in order to revive & breed A New Race of Alien/Human Hybrids .
@1993MovieMan I don't know... they referred to the creatures on the ship as Tommyknockers more than once. Toward the end of the book, they may have referred to the townspeople as Tommyknockers, but only because they were turning into the creatures. My point was that you see a living ship-creature in the trailer, and in the book they were dead, or at least inactive, in the ship.
fuckin gay movie, i dint even watch it and i see its nothing like the book which was epic. they certainly didn't bring a dead rat with a string to swing it with
They ought to remake this movie and make it more like the book where they actually turned into aliens and not having the life sucked out of them for the aliens to come back. Only a few things in the movie were like the book.
i'm reading the book right now.... i wanna watch the movie but i can't find a copy.... better read the book than watch it, i guess... seeing the trailer, it's not that good
omg i luv dis movie i watched it wen i wuz i think 9 years old nd im 14 now nd im reading da book nd the shining both r great books nd movies!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Gam3d really dude i dont have to when i'm just typing comments, texting or sending emails to my friends but when i type or write a paper i spell correctly so calm down buddy! there are you happy??
Part of learning is putting it to use. If you stop using correct grammar after school because you no longer need to, what was the point of learning it?
watched this when I was very, very young along with CHild's Play 2 (gave myself the heebie-jeebies). All I remember is the man and woman going into the UFO to save her son; her son walking up to some moss covered creature, calling it "Grandpa"; and the man hooking up to the ship, literally - drills were...drilling into his head/his eyes glowed green - as he took the ship up into the sky to destroy it.
bobby is so hot, in the film and book. with the little tentacle thingies in her cooch and the translucent skin. lovely. gotta introduce the fleshy in her alien deeps.
jeeez, i just watched the trailer a few seconds and had to turn it off. the books pretty damn kool. but movies almost always ruin the image one builds out of the words in a book. it just doesnt fit and fucks it all, up. might just be a poor director or lack of modern technology when they mdaee the movies. but it just kinda ruins for me every time.
I read this book in jail and I just now checked to see if there was a movie made, and I gotta tell ya, this doesn't even look anything like I illustrated this story in my mind. Then again, it wouldn't since it is how I had pictured it and,
well,
I don't know but this looks God awful there were no big ugly looking aliens walking around.
I think the book was good, but this? this seems like shit.. Why did they even bother?

fuckin gay movie, i dint even watch it and i see its nothing like the book which was epic. they certainly didn't bring a dead rat with a string to swing it with
alecvenecia 1 year ago 4
@alecvenecia Yes thats it
smartJAZZfish 1 year ago
They ought to remake this movie and make it more like the book where they actually turned into aliens and not having the life sucked out of them for the aliens to come back. Only a few things in the movie were like the book.

@Gam3d really dude i dont have to when i'm just typing comments, texting or sending emails to my friends but when i type or write a paper i spell correctly so calm down buddy! there are you happy??
grlthatloves 2 years ago
Part of learning is putting it to use. If you stop using correct grammar after school because you no longer need to, what was the point of learning it?
Gam3d 2 years ago
@Gam3d really dude!! you sound like my father!!!!!!!!!! but i see your point but hey it's not your problem now is it?? =(

watched this when I was very, very young along with CHild's Play 2 (gave myself the heebie-jeebies). All I remember is the man and woman going into the UFO to save her son; her son walking up to some moss covered creature, calling it "Grandpa"; and the man hooking up to the ship, literally - drills were...drilling into his head/his eyes glowed green - as he took the ship up into the sky to destroy it.

You have to look real hard, but you'll find this character named Gard. And he is, like, addicted to, like, stuff.

The actors don't look like they fit the characters.
Gam3d 2 years ago
They never fit the characters, the best ever Stephen King casting was Kathy Bates in Misery.

bobby is so hot, in the film and book. with the little tentacle thingies in her cooch and the translucent skin. lovely. gotta introduce the fleshy in her alien deeps.

jeeez, i just watched the trailer a few seconds and had to turn it off. the books pretty damn kool. but movies almost always ruin the image one builds out of the words in a book. it just doesnt fit and fucks it all, up. might just be a poor director or lack of modern technology when they mdaee the movies. but it just kinda ruins for me every time.

I read this book in jail and I just now checked to see if there was a movie made, and I gotta tell ya, this doesn't even look anything like I illustrated this story in my mind. Then again, it wouldn't since it is how I had pictured it and,
well,
I don't know but this looks God awful there were no big ugly looking aliens walking around.
onehitta1 2 years ago
yeah my version of this book (in my head) seems so real, this is some cheesy 90's crap. the movie doesn't even look that good
