Quex is an interesting place to visit and ring at, and it is certainly true that, at the time, casting a complete light 12 must have been tricky, as evidenced by the fact that all of the front 4 bells were recast in more recent times! Notwithstanding all the history though, I for one would certainly support the whole lot being recast, perhaps as a copy of the lovely 12 at Ballymena, in order to give this magnificent venue a ring of bells more deserving of it!
It is worth reflecting that when these bells were cast in 1818/19 there were very few 12s anywhere and not many of these were cast complete - so taking on this job would have been a real challenge for Mears. There were no tuning machines then either and the bells surviving from the original ring have no tuning marks. Furthermore my friend - if all rings of bells were perfect, where would the colour, the challenge, the fun be in visiting different towers to ring?

1. Yes, nowadays we have technology that replaces a lot of the skills of previous craftsmen (dentists excluded)
2. Why not replace all bells with perfect digital recordings? Then we would not even have to pull the ropes.
2. You clearly have no appreciation of the history of ringing.
2. Where is the money for replacing all these 'unsatisfactory' bells ?
3. So just want easy bells to ring, not much skill in that.

@Hazyringer We can do better these days. 19th century relics such as diptheria, capital punishment and Quex should stay there.
Or would you be happy if you went to the dentist and he pulled out a bottle of Scotch and a hammer?
