@MidnightAngel50 my father served ,in the us army and landed at normandy d-day plus 3....my uncle served in the seabees..s pacific.....i grew up believing in the movies and pbs series like world at war....that the germans were evil....but then i saw that there were inconsistencies in the stories...and when i found out that my relatives on my mothers side of the family had been waffen ss.....i started getting as much knowledge from books pbs, history channel and veterans..it's incredible
@1942PANTHERV If my recall serves me right. The Waffen SS was sort of a special opt military. i never thought all Germans in WW2 were evil just caught up in the control of a mad man I guess you can say. I have a fasination with WW2 and read some books and caught some documentries on the subject. I learned also from others on the subject.
@MidnightAngel50 the ss started out se hitlers personal guard ..then himmler wanted to prove they could be a combat force..3 div were made up of german voluteers who wanted to be the best..and be able to move up in rank since the reg military still had the hierarchy doctrine that france and eng had..the rest were all foreign troops....germanys version of french foreign legion
@1942PANTHERV I believe I read an article that said something similar to what you mention. I believe it was in the WW2 magazine. Weren't they also guards at the concentration camps? I forgot.
@MidnightAngel50 ...it gets good here...the camps were set up by reinhart heydrich..2nd in command to heinrich himmler....ironically heydrich did have some jewish ancestors..but since he was blonde haired in blu eyed hitler would hear nothing of it....in 43..when roosevelt and churchill refused hitlers peace proposal (which was a pretty sweet deal) he turned over the fate of the jews to himmler who actually gave the orders for the exterminations....he had already selected members of the ss who

@1942PANTHERV I was thinking there was someone with the nickname 'Enforcer' in Hitler's regime. I could of gotten confused about that one, lol. It is time to hit the books to brush up the files in my memory.
I remember reading an article about Heydrich. He sounded on the mental side that Hitler got scared of him at times from the way the article was wrote. From my understanding Hitler was relieved to hear of Heydrich death according to the article.
@MidnightAngel50 relieved??..heydrich was one of hitlers favorites..he was so mad at his death..he wanted payback..the czech town where the comandos were hiding was obliterated....everyone one was killed..not a single stone remained....it only exists on old maps....and there is a memorial there now ibelieve..now before you say that proves hitler was a monster..i gotta defend him...in vietnam..US TROOPS OFTEN DID THE SAME THING TO TOWNS AND VILLAGES THAT SUPPORTED THE VIETCONG....

For a WW2 desert series in 1966 this was super crisp clear filmed in great desert locations in Spain and later in California, This show is what popularised the whole WW2 era that came out in the '60's worldwide, many movies followed with great interest but soon Vietnam screwed the whole thing up and began decades of decadence. .....Vietnam was definitely the demon of decay

It would of had a very interesting storyline I believe, lol. I am sorry for the late response I move to a different town and it took a while to get situated.
If you look at the history the Germans had the best weapons so they weren't that hopeless. The Allies just had a better game plan going when the Americans joined in the war, lol.
Yes, that is correct. Probably saying they were hopeless is extreme. It is just that each American person were better than people from other nations. This is ever truer now.
There are some that would disagree with you on your third and fourth sentences. But I think you know this, lol. I am not one of them though. I am proud of my country (U.S.) and proud of what we contributed in the war (Generals and all). But I can't say, we would of won the war by ourselves. It took the strength of all the Ally countries to push Germany back and give them "what for". But I am curious why you stated the latter two sentences though.
I guess I didn't really need the last two sentences, as it is self evident. It is true that other countries helped the US win, but some tend to overstate their importance, especially England. The main help was from the USSR, which, like the US, is overly modest about its contribution.
On your first sentence, you were just stating opinion and how you saw things. There is nothing wrong in that. I had asked why you thought that way is because to hear some others talk about the U.S. we're pompous a**es and rebels, who should get a clue. To tell the truth, you surprise me with your opinion and thoughts of the U.S. It threw me off guard, lol.
MidnightAngel. People criticize America, as it is the no 1 nation, or because they are not American themselves. I try to look at things realistically. The US to my mind, has been a force of good. That has also been good for the United States, as it has kept it in number one position. England kept number one position for centuries by tricking people, or when they couldn't, being very cruel. The Americans have shown everyone that you can be number one by being honorable, honest. and sympathic.
Thank you on what you said about the U.S. I know not all think the way you do. In life, there are some lesson we need to relearn over, lol. My ex-husband's grandfather use to say "If you don't learn something every day, you might is well be dead." I think that is the reason why I ask a lot of questions, lol. BTW, I don't just think you are a realistic person but a person who is knowledgeable. I enjoy these discussions with you.
Thanks, MidnightAngel. Your ex-husband's grandfather was absolutely correct. I also think it is OK to alter your ideas, if you find out something new. I do think that people from the US are generally well intentioned and have an open mind.
Loved the video! Hauptmann Hans Dietrich is my favourite character in RP. If you like to read, make sure you check out the RP fan fic on fanfiction . net & you can get more at the RP Yahoo groups. Again, thanks for posting.
I have never seen the show. For political reasons. I despised most of today's Hollyleftwood. Plus the fact that I love history. I have lots of WWII books. I have 5 WWII helmets and am assembling from parts a WWII Inland (GM) manufactured M-1 carbine (I still a few parts). I think the Rat Patrol looks fun. 4x4ing across the desert and shooting it out with Rommel's troops.
Your welcome. I like Hauptmann Dietrich too. His name is the first name I remember when I think of the characters of the 'The Rat Patrol'. Hauptmann Dietrich to me is one of those characters I love even though he is the nemesis on the show.
I am sorry. hokoshi928, is my niece's account I forgot to look and sign her account out to switch to mine. I made the comment under her name. I am sorry about that.

Dietrich may have been the proverbial Darth Vader of the show, but he was an anti-Nazi and in a few cases openly defied the Gestapo.

Gudegast (Now Eric Braeden) was 25 when he made the pilot to this series.
He and I had the same optometrist at the time and he used to comment how I looked just like him
I met Braeden in '93.
This series was pure fiction people! Get off the Nazi trip - and oh yeah, it was "Reinhard" Heydrich...
