RIP, BEN, lead singer of the Cars. I read he died in 2000 of pancreatic cancer. He reminds me of a young David Bowie in this video. I always thought that the black haired guy was the lead singer. He's the one who married a supermodel and is 60 something now (she's 40 something).
Funny thing about the Cars is that they were so good & so steady in defining the 80's sound that they were actually taken for granted. A truly great & versatile band from a time now gone by...
i've got a story with this song , so when i first came to the states i head it @ some restaurant in CT , i didn't understand any of the words cuz i wasn't good in English , but i got the beats and the melody and i loved it, couldn't find it though , after like four years i watched Transformers and i heard it, i jumped like crazy and asked my friends about it and i finally found it , that was back in 2009 , now i finished my degree and about to leave this beautiful country , i'm from Saudi Arabia
Best song of the 80s? It has to be up there as a real contender doesn't it? It's one of those remarkably evocative haunting songs that takes me back to my teenage years in the 80s.
For me, this song is the best of the 80's... It's powerful and romantic at the same time, and Benjamin Orr (RIP), did an excellent work as lead vocalist. The spirit of the 80's are completed in this song
The Cars, Chicago and Jethro Tull aren't in the hall of Fame but ABBA is and so many other strange choices. Yes, just for the Yes Album should be in as well.
saw Ben sing this on the Candy-O Tour~Majestic Spinetingling~Standing Front Stage with sunglasses and the Mane of a Rock Lion~I payed attention to HIS dream~RIP BEN ORR & DAVID ROBINSON(severely underrated original drummer)Steve Sparx
En mi opinión muy personal es la mejor canción de los carros, en sonido, armonía, arreglos musicales y naturalmente la voz de Benjamin es simplemente espectacular.
She was a beautiful young thing & we were lovers. One day she left & even though older than her I felt lost, totally empty without her and went to a bar to dry out my pain & this song was being played. My heart just broke thinking who would have her that night......She later came back to me & we were lovers for some time & then one day she left and never saw Her ever again
When I was in 6th grade this song played at my middle school dance back in 87. I was dancing with this cute blond girl who had a crush on me. The gym was so hot that our clothes were wet from sweat. Held her close and it was a wonderful moment of my youth. Man I miss the 80's. RIP Ben Orr.
I remember when I first heard this song. I loved it right from the first time and always have to this day. Benjamin had such a great voice and the words were awesome.
is this guy a better looking version of Bryan Adams? lol one question thought why does he have a guitar strapped around his neck if he's not playing it? The truth is i do like this song so don't get on my case.
It's a bass (his main instrument). He plays it later in the song. No point in going and putting it on in the middle of the song right? He decided to hang it on his neck until his bass part came in.
All my fave Carsa song were done by Ben Orr. His voice is so fucking perfect. Get their box set and absorb it. They are fucking great, even the songs that never made it ti radio are sweet as hell. Nobody sounds like them or will again.
Beautiful is to small a word for how He was. I still can't believe he's gone. At least we are left with his Musical Legacy. RIP Gorgeous, Wonderful and Extremely Talented Ben.
This is without doubt my most favorite song perfromed by my most favorite performer of all time...does anyone have any info his son? I need to find out about him.
@KIJFISH He was born in 1995 ,mother never married Orr. He now lives in Vermont and is 15. Heard he's every bit as beautiful as his father, and his name is also Benjamin. Wish I knew more. Poor kid lost this most special man at only five. Maybe there's some truth that only the good die young.
I just have to say that I remember this concert very well. They played to perfection! When Ben sang this song..there wasn't a girl in the crowd who wasnt screaming...and I was one of them. I was very sad to find out we lost Ben Orr. The Cars are without a doubt one of the best bands and live concert performances ever!
I was fortunate enough to see The Cars in concert several times and this video brings back happy times / memories. They were not a flashy band but they were a band that when they played their songs they did sound like the studio versions. This song was made for Ben's voice. I can't picture anybody else singing this classic and one of the best songs ever recorded.
Just 25 years ago I was enroute to St Louis from Las Vegas, somewhere over north Texas or sowest Kansas, had a walkman on, with FM a station would last about 4-5 minutes. This came on and played entirely before the station was lost. Now, old, retired, melancholic, I will never forget this piece and will always feel very sad hearing it. You are a genuine bud, benny11letters, and I thank you.
oh , after a long search , finally i got that song. used in Transformers movie.
