While I understand resentment over the kid being creeped out, in my opinion, this version is superior to Savion's. Calloway brought such engergy and humor to this, both with his costume and vocals. Also, the way he bobbed his head toward the girl and whatnot was also amusing. Savion just seems like someone who thinks he's so hip and modern and his little tapdance doesn't hold a candle to anything Calloway does here or that Calloway has done in his other segments.
Herry Monster's voice sounded like he had a cold that day, or else the muppeteer who did him was still trying to find his voice. It sounded just like that during the "Life Of A Butterfly" play, when the girl who appeared in an unusual clip before that about the number 7 with a big monster, was playing the piano instead of Prarie Dawn. I think the "7" clip was not shown anymore because all through that clip, you heard smacking hands as the girl enthusiasticly counted to 7.
I also really love those shoes. The nice things about them is that they have very nice colors and they're very shiny. Also, David was great on this skit. It's very sad that he passed away.
The thing that used to scare me on this skit at the very end when I was very young was when they made a close up of David making a very surprise look towards the camera after Herry dumped out his box full of shoes.
I was a little confused here, was David's name here Danny or David? I'm wondering this because here he said "hiya hiya hiya gang, this is Danny David." Then in the middle of the skit, Herry called him David, so I'm not sure if his name is Danny or David on this skit.
Yes you're right. It did sound like he said "Dandy David." He probably spoke a little too fast that it sounded a little confusing whether he said "Danny" or "David." David was a great character on Sesame Street. It's sad that he passed away.
I agree with the last 2 sentences, he was so awesome! RIP, Northern Calloway, you were like, the best human on Sesame Street ever. At least there's Chris, who I consider as the new David.
She actually smiled a couple of times. But also, probably the people at the Children's Television Workshop forced her to do it because no one else had the guts to do it.
Actually, I don't think most of the kids on the show have appeared that bored. Most of them were just kind of young and weren't always sure how to respond (like John John asking Bert why he lost his paper clips), which I think made them all the more cute. But that little girl is just plain embarrassed. I bet she already knows how to tie her shoes. And what's up with Herry? Has he got a sore throat or something? He shouldn't have strained it by echoing David's every line.
Ah. I've never seen this version. Truthfully I adore the Savion version and prefer that one to this one. Why-because Elmo is adorable and Savion tapdances. Also that little girl does not look very happy!
I've never understood why so many of the kids appearing on this show look so disinterested and bored. (none look so out and out miserable as this girl does, though!) If they don't want to be there, why did someone drag them there in the first place? I wouldn't do that to my kid, if I had one.
In this regard, Sesame Street is the polar opposite of, say, Barney, where the kids are a little TOO engaged (too much caffine or sumpin'....).

Maybe she's nervous being in front of the camera with a million people watching her on the television.
