He use the glue is mainly because there will be an ugly line between the two plastic parts, and he can get rid of that line by using the Tamiya cement to glue them
after the glue is dry, he sanded it, it will look like the line was never there after he painted it
To fullmetalfunk: It's a method to take away seam lines. You put glue in between the two parts, then press them together. It'll cause some glue to seep out between the gap. Cut and sand away the extra glue, and the seam line will be gone.
Ok thanks. I used to do Gundam models alot when I was like 11 and 12. But i never di them with alot of detail. I wnt to get back into it and do it right this time so I'm doing some resaerch. Would you recomend investing in an air brush or should I just paint in details on the already colored plastic with a small model brush?
That depends. I've done a lot of nice looking HG 1/144 kits with only a brush, but you can do a lot more if you have an airbrush. IMO, it's worth the money, but it's not by any means needed. I've gotten by for years without one.
Ok cool man thanks alot for the info. I think my first one is going to be Hygog, from 0080. I've seen a couple different models not sure which one I want yet.
Welcome. I'm actually thinking of getting that one too. Just so you know, get the HGUC version and not the 0080 HG version. The HGUC version is a newer remake of it. Nothing's changed except that the technology used to make it improved since the older 0080 version.
I might look into the newer one then. Thanks again for all the info. I would love to do this Kampfer eventually but...looks pretty daunting...and expensive. Haha.
its true that you dont need to glue them, I used to have this model, before i broke it. The reason he needs glue is because he enlarged most of the conneting parts, so that he can snap it on and off whenever he wants if he wants to change some coloring :)
I don't have airbrush or the fancy weathing kit he had ... im doing that with just a gundam marker and smaching it with my finger (takes forever ;p) so its hot what he did :) looks awesome
umm, when he painted the battle damaged parts, was the cotton swab coated with something or was it just by itself? When he was cleaning up the details in the last video ws the cotton swab coated with paint thinner or something else?
That is one "aback" video. =p

@a7924a You could also use squadron putty to fill those lines or "seams" too.

Why is he gluing it? I thought all Gundam models were snap togethers? IS he just reinforcing it?

Yeah. Kampfer also comes in a HGUC 1/144 scale version. Cheaper and easier than his 1/100 MG version in the video.

Do you happen to know a good internet site to buy these from? You can send it in a personal message if you want.

Wait...I don't understand. If he glues them how can he snap them off whenever he wants?

Kampfer is pritty intimadating when you open the box for the first time... but after you get the legs done it starts to thin out.
