Also, Obama entered during a recession that was years in the making because of a lack of regulation. The last thing a government should worry about during a recession/depression is deficit. If a gov spends, they stand a chance of reviving an economy and thereby become able to recoup their losses. When they let an economy flounder, all goes downhill.

@ItsZackk the problem with waiting on national healthcare is that it actually costs more to NOT have it in the long run. what people forget is how desperate of a situation the nation was in right before president obama took office. he had to stabalize the economy in such a way that the financial institutions wouldn't collapse. dozens of banks were failing each week around the country. stocks were becoming worthless. it was an unnerving time. but his policies worked to stop the leaks.
Obama has put our country in the position of having our debt actually match our GDP. If you can say that to yourself and not be frightened by the implications of such a scenario, you may want to check to see if you're still breathing. Citing Reagan and Bush's debt contributions as justification to ignore Obama's obviously more concerning spending is childish. Therefore, you should grow up.

Raised taxes on the middle class 5 times and quadrupled the budget deficit to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy, which also in turn, increased the national debt to then record levels. Was the first president to borrow money from China to finance his voodoo economics.

Also, Obama entered during a recession that was years in the making because of a lack of regulation. The last thing a government should worry about during a recession/depression is deficit. If a gov spends, they stand a chance of reviving an economy and thereby become able to recoup their losses. When they let an economy flounder, all goes downhill.

Congress controls the budget and oversees regulation. Democrats controlled Congress since the 2006 election. They had regulations in place, but did not oversee them.

@Hiraghm Several economists predicted this collapse prior to 2005 primarily due to a lack of oversight and regulation of Wall Street. There is a difference between reviving an economy and reestablishing a healthy one. Wall Street will always fight regulation by systematically dropping values to scare us, their only concern is for themselves. Instead of investing in manufactures and services, they gamble on the intangible predictions. Repubs dropped the ball, and Dems aren't doing enough.

Reagan did not say "Yes We Can" one time during this speech. Obama did not invent the idea, he just invented the phrase. There was the "Yes We Can" crap when the colonists decided to overthrow the British Empire; its just that Obama used the phrase. The implication that Obama stole the idea from Reagan is completely unfair.

The "Reagan Doctrine" as you put it, was put in place to allow democratic elections to take place in south american nations that were being subverted by socialist elites. When these did take place, the people threw out their socialist overlords, most notably in Nicaragua.
God forbid anyone would want to try to give people freedom.

The reality is the Reagan Doctrine was a crucial factor in the fall of the Soviet Union. It was implemented to push back communist influence in the above mentioned regions through material support of democratic revolutionaries. And obviously it worked.

Stabilized the Banking Industry, finally given us healthcare, saved the Auto Industry, nominated qualified people, and acted like a partner in world affairs instead of a 'cowboy'. Bush was exclusionary while Obama has tried to work with/for everybody.
And forget about how he "doubled the federal deficit." Both Regan and W.Bush did the same. Where was your outrage then?

@abovefilms I like the idea of public healthcare, but now is not the time. Obama can wait till his third year or second term when we are truly out of the recession to spend nearly 1 trillion dollars (just a fraction of the US' nation debt by the way). I can't see how that helps the biggest problem we are facing right now.

@ItsZackk the problem with waiting on national healthcare is that it actually costs more to NOT have it in the long run. what people forget is how desperate of a situation the nation was in right before president obama took office. he had to stabalize the economy in such a way that the financial institutions wouldn't collapse. dozens of banks were failing each week around the country. stocks were becoming worthless. it was an unnerving time. but his policies worked to stop the leaks.

Obama has put our country in the position of having our debt actually match our GDP. If you can say that to yourself and not be frightened by the implications of such a scenario, you may want to check to see if you're still breathing. Citing Reagan and Bush's debt contributions as justification to ignore Obama's obviously more concerning spending is childish. Therefore, you should grow up.

Regarding Obama's "stimulus" bill, it wasn't necessary, and has unquestionably prolonged and worsened this recession, and will probably drive it into a depression after the bush tax cuts expire.
There has never been a government intervention that has actually assisted an economy in recovering, and this one is no different.
