ABC network execs ruined Battlestar the same way they ruined Twin Peaks -they forced Lynch and Frost to reveal the killer of Laura Palmer WAY EARLIER in the series than intended, (thus ruining the suspense/whole reason for the show.) With Battlestar, ABC did the same thing: killing it in its prime, and then bringing them to Earth WAY EARLY. ABC executives suffer from the mental equivalent of premature ejaculation disorder: great way to bring in new viewers. Kill all suspense! Good work.

The uber-annoying "Super-Scouts" were a shameless rip-off of the Bad-News Bears during their 10 seconds of fame.The two "heros" of the show who replaced Apollo and Starbuck were another rip-off of Bo and Luke Duke of the Duke's of Hazzard while I suppose the cylons represented the police-force of Hazzard County. Most Galactica Fans and even the original actors and Glen Larson himself concede that Galactica 1980 is not part of the "Official Canon" of TOS. The episode "The Return of Starbuck" was actually meant for the TOS Second Season and was to have involved the beings from The Ship of Lights. The adult Boxey character of Troy was used by Richard Hatch in his Galactica Spin-Off Novels. It's too bad TOS series is tied up in legalize, would love to see the much anticipated relaunch of TOS characters.

As much as it pains me to say, the 3 hour G1980 movie wasn't totally as bad as I remember. The series truly falls apart when they introduce the "Super Scouts". And, of course, Dr. Zee is throat-slitting bad. Both, of course, introduced because they wanted Galactica to be more "family oriented".

Galactica 1980 was actually a spin off of Battlestar Galactica. The original show was popular, but cost ABC a grip to produce. SO they cancelled the show and brought it back, albeit at a cheaper cost. So they skipped the '79 season and brought it back for '80. It was horrible, ratings went in the toilet and it got cancelled. The original series format should have been the one they brought back. This was the first itme a letter writing capaign to save a show worked.

In my opinion, the new series seems to be to Battlestar Galactica what Star Trek XI is to Star Trek. I also wouldn't call "real" ordnance used, or seek realism in show that doesn't come close to regarding it's internal physics and tech as seriously as e.g. Babylon 5, not to mention Star Trek or Stargate. CGI is hell impressive, but storytelling - poor. As for fan, it turned out to be big dissapointment. Moore did better job at ST: DS9, which wasn't all that great either.
