I don't know if this is the one, but I saw a taping of Press Your Luck when I was in Los Angeles back in 1983. The taping was on September 10, and it didn't debut until 9 days later (September 19). Unfortunately, the taping lasted about two and a half hours because they had technical problems in the studio.
My high score is WAY higher than that! I played it just like Larson did, on the Expert version of the game which is really cool, though I felt the same effects Larson did. But with many spins keeping coming back to me, I got over $250,000 in cash and prizes.
But, $122,000 ain't bad at all. That's a good total.
@mtiller2006 I got $118K on one version of the game a few years back, forget which version. I hit Add A One twice then passed the spins. I got them passed back, ended up losing it to the Whammy.
I have it for the DS and I "beat" Larson's record with $533,900 in the game,LOL! I am a huge fan of this show, that my friends inspired to give me my 1st nickname:Whammy!
Actually, another change was that in the pilot, there were 4 slides in each square. The difference for the show was that there were 3 slides, so that makes two differences
Plus the logo which was a lime green and orange stencil, the "spins" cards that was orange with black lettering, and the background behind the contestants while spinning was black with a "starry-like" background.
god lana is retarded. & is a symbol for THE??? Even a four year old knows '&" is a symbol for AND. And she should have taken $200 and a spnin. What a dumbass!!!
Whoa! Look at that huge edit right there! Right after Peter says "Big Risks for big bucks", it immediately cuts to him explaining the rules of the game.
Yeah, I know it's from the original broadcast, but still.
They skipped the interviews I noticed.

@nanlisa Spetmber 10, 1983 was indeed when the first episodes of PYL were shot.

Also notice: the whammy in square #5 in the demo board is backwards.

The suit Peter Tomarken wore on the very 1st PYL is also the same suit he wore on the last episode of hit previous 1980s game show "Hit Man."

Actually, Jeopardy! returned September 10th 1984, not 19th.

Far cry from what would come. No Fog Horn Synth when the Whammy is hit and of course the cries of, "Big Bucks, No Whammies!...STOP!!!"

Did you know that one year later, 1984, it's the same date that Alex Trebek hosted Jeopardy! for the first time?

What also debuted on this same day was the Syndicated Wheel of Fortune which also did great in the ratings.

The only change from the pilot to the actual show was the number of questions reduced to 4.

I bet Michael Larson liked it being 3 slides...
thanks for uploading this

Also, they switched out the logo in the center of the big board. The pilot had a military stencil outline whereas this one has the classic PYL logo.

@mtiller2006 The clearest change can be the logo.

A Chevrolet Mercedes? Sounds like an interesting model of car. What the heck, I guess they had to shake off the first day jitters sometime.

Interesting how the production evolved slightly later on, but the rules of the game never changed.
