@hecate235 *Maybe* there's a guy in the back chorus line, just before xx335 sings 'Won't see me for dust'. ;-) But yeah, they all seem to be very straight-backed for such broken men.
I love this! I was listening to another version of this song... 10th i believe, and it just didnt sound the same... "nope nope, not the right guy..." i kept on telling her... "i can't tell the difference" she says... "It has to be the 25th..."
@philemon101 Rue Plumet is literally the road that Jean Valjean and Cosette live on later in the musical but Yes, Javert is chasing Valjean because he tore up his yellow ticket (labelling him as a criminal) which is the equivalent of breaking parole.
@lavieclassique I have just finished reading the book.you're right,Rue Plumet is an adress where Jean Valjean and the mature Cossette lived...But according to the book Jean Valjean committed another crime and that is when he unintetionally robbed Petit Gervais',A little Savoyard,Forthy Sous.and Javert also suspect that Jean robbed the Bishop of Digne.that's why he is still persuing Jean.
@philemon101 Yes, when he takes the young boys money without realizing it, that is added to his crimes. He just gets screwed all around. Its a good book - sad but realistic for the time.
@jadem1122 In the book, b/c of 2 things. 1) even though the bishop tells them not to, the cops write up the "theft." 2) either deliberately, or out of habit, Jean takes 40 sous from a young boy. (see wilyboy64 below) It's this last that changes him. After the bishop's mercy, Jean's shame at his petty cruelty breaks his hate and anger. Two thefts, no passport. If he's caught it's a death sentence, usually commuted to life in the galleys -- cheap labor, you know.
@jecka62987 really?but in the 10th anniversary concert,Quast used "yellow ticket of leave"....but anyway i think saying or singing you'll get your yellow ticket of leave/ticket to flee is hard for me....haha thanks ^_^
@scullen08 he's good ! because when seeing him as a Bishop, I have trouble picturing him as Javert. But if he's able to do both, then he must be very good^^
At 5:52 I love the way the bishop said "There".
"Come in sire fore you are weary, and the night is cold out 'theeeere'"
It's like......
I cant describe it >_<

Wow, not often you hear dialogue like that in a musical.

I love the bishop, he's incredibly forgiving. Not only does he say that Valjean spoke the truth, but he also gives him more silver.

ok so if javert gave veljean that yellow ticket then why does he chase him throughout the whoole play??
jadem1122 1 year ago
@jadem1122 Because Valjean tears it up and runs. That's the equivalent of a prisoner out on parole not reporting in.
scullen08 1 year ago 17
@jadem1122
In a french movie of "les miserables", there is a boy who sings while playing with a coin.
This coin fall next to Valjean who's eating in a field.
The young boy ask for his money but Valjean don't see the coin, thinking the boy is lying.
When the boy runs shouting "thief! thief!" J.V finally find the coin but it's too late.
I don't understand everything in this musical cos I'm french but I don't think they notice that. perhaps jadem is right too. I don't know.

@lavieclassique poor Valjean condemned and charged for a crime he does not know he did.and poor Javert for persuing a man of no bad intention.
philemon101 9 months ago
@philemon101 Javert's also after Jean bc he "broke parole." Never reported in and dropped out of sight. Convicts aren't supposed to do that.

@jadem1122 To answer your question, It is because Valjean didn't follow protocol and take the yellow card. It was like a big f-you and then he ran.

When I first saw the video, I just think, 'GOSH! Good Bishop?! He looks so familiar !'
And the next second, I recognized' GOSH! It is Earl Carpenter!'
Wanting him to be the Javert in Concert
When I first been to London for Les Mis, he was the Javert. His voice just stunned me~
He is almost the best Javert ever...! Philip Quast is crowned the first though XD
