  • @animalLuverify yea I do western too but I REALLY want to ride English (NEVER gunna happen)

  • going to shows sounds really fun! thanks, i don't ride english (barrel race) but i have always thought that looks really pretty on horses (:

  • wanna come do my braids? event every weekend... i'll pay ya! ;)

  • I got here from a video on how to make buns, I don't have a horse but i have always wondered how that was done. It be funny to try it on a human head!

  • @Landloop

Using bands doesn't look as good as using the needle and thread. With the needle it's neater and prettier than with the bands.

  • YAH!! Why won't you just use rubber bands?

  • FABULOUS!!!! Sharing!!

  • lol u are all beat up from braiding but over 500 makes u feel much better

  • Very cute video!! :):)

  • really great video, I would like to see a shot of the final product. The braids look great, and I dont' know how you do so many horses, good for you!!!

  • great video! very helpful thanks:)

  • wish your butthole camera man could have kept the camera on the braid while you sewed it .

thats the part I meed to see.

  • I salute you. You're braiding skills amaze me. there is no way *I* would be able to braid 25 horses back to back. Or even stay up all day. My hat is off to you.

  • Wow! Best braiding instruction I've seen yet (and I love the music too!) Thanks so much - my boy will look SO much nicer for his next show! :0)

  • This is really going to work for my Showing Classes - Working Hunter! Thnx it really helped alot! :) Thank you!

  • Hi I love your video and i would like to make some money by doing that but i dont know how to start though.. how did you guys find people to pay you and stuff could you help me? :)

  • @thepikapikaboo I do this as well. I basically just walk around.and ask. Or especially if I'm showing there, I put a sign on my trailer and then ont he beginning of my section of stalls. What's really helpful is having a trainer inform people that you are capable of braiding.

  • where can you get those braiding pins

  • Haha this is great! I do hunter braids, and it takes me like anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to do anywhere from 20 braids to 50 braids a neck. I need to get a friend that braids with me so I can braid all night like that and make some cash flow..

  • THIS IS A REALLY GOOD VIDEO!!!! I mostly do flat hunter braids... I knew the rest of it would be a snap-just needed to see it and have it descibed at the same time. Really nice job ladies... you should charge more though-you're buttons are lovely!! Or hit up the hunter world... I get $110 easy at "A" shows just for a mane!

  • would this apply for a hunter/jumper show ?

  • Wow thank you I will do this at the next show, but my problem is that the horse that I start with is IMPOSSIBLE! He can't manage to hold his head still for 5 seconds, no matter how tight we bind him or give him hay in his bucket. Do you have any tips? Do you need to go over with an hairspray/gel afterwards?

  • do you need special yarn? or can i use just any yarn from michels or a craft store?

  • I have watched like 100 videos on youtube of show plaiting manes and yours is the best by FAR. Thank you for all of the extremely helpful info!!

  • Can I button braid for schooling shows?

  • @englishjumper123 you can button braid for pretty much everything. it will always look great. at my very first showing class i had button braids and came third for "an excellent turn out" do it! (:

  • Wow! Thanks so much! I plan to try these out on my guy today; dressage show coming up later this week!

  • Thank you !! .My god that Video was so helpfull....:)

  • awesome video!!! =D

  • Ye Are Really Good At That!!

Ohh....I Would Love Love To Be Doing That All Day Long!!!!

    =P

  • this helped me alot im going to use these braids for my upcoming jumping show :)

  • thank you this was so helpful!

and as for the sore fingers, I hear wrapping them in a little vetwrap can help prevent blisters and help you grip.

  • WOW!! This is a really helpful video !! I am going to to try this next time or at lest the measurements I like how you explained it :) Just wondering how do you take the braids out?

  • i did this with my walker and his mane is over 2 ft long =D i used small sections

  • How do you rip the braids after?

  • You only charge $20? I have been paying $50!

  • its a little different to how we do it in the uk but will definatly give it a go :) great tips guys.xxx

  • this vid would have been good if i could see wat u r doing

  • This video sure shows your dedication! :) Keep up the great work! :)

    Gabe :)

  • thanks! i really like the way you explained this! by chance do you know how to briad tails? i'd love a video on how to do that!

  • thank you this helped alot!

  • looks like you kind of use the 'lucky braid' method for the actual braiding, which is great since thats what I do! Less new things to learn! Awesome vid, idk though about trimming the loose hairs... that seems like it would look bad once the braids are out. Not that you would want to change your system since clearly it works for you, but using a sponge and wetting the mane (not dripping) helps prevent those little stray hairs lol its wierd at first but now i can't stand to braid dry!! thx!

  • FINALLY! I want to thank you so much!

I learned this braiding technique at school, but I totally forgot!

It sounds like a lot of fun, braiding at night ;) I wish I was still working with horses... Guess being pre-veterinairian isn;t that bad, but my heart lies with horses.

Good luck with you job! :D

  • WOW you guys are like soooo good at doing button braids!

  • hehe souns fun...and looks pretty too! :)

  • this helps heaps thanx guys keep up the good work:)

  • thank you! :)

  • love it! so helpful. can you use these in a normal aqha hunter under saddle class?

  • No. You should use regular, flat hunter braids. These braids are usually used for dressage, eventing, and foxhunting.

  • thank you!

  • Hey, can you tell me the name of this song? I love it!

  • Thanks! These are great tips, i am gonna try using yarn every time i braid now!

    i give this vid 10/10!

  • Lovely video, it was cute! You made it very easy to do!

  • Great Video it sounds like you guys had fun!

  • very cool thank you very much

  • great video! I've always done hunter braids but have always wondered how those were done.

  • I think I know the person who keeps making funny faces into the camera every couple of seconds... lol, is that girl Hailey?

  • do you guys do hunter braids too ?

  • those are hunter braids. you just have to alot more and smaller. otherwise u use yarn.( for hunters)

  • no they're not. hunter braids are a completely different style.

  • love the end!!

  • Fantastic.....^_^ thank you for posting this video....

  • great video, thanks. This is the only type of braid I didnt know how to do, and now I can!

  • grreat!

  • All your guys' videos are so helpful! Thanks so much!

  • This is great! I will use this video to braid my horses when I start doing Hunters and dressage. Thanks!!!

  • hunter braids are much different! Check out my vid on it.

  • were do you ride?

u are pretty amazing, anyway you could teach me to mane roll?

  • I have to admit...your pretty talented!

  • would you mind posting other videos on braiding? i ride western but i still would like to know how to braid because i lke the way it looks! nice video by the way.

  • OMG! Thank you sooo much! I've been looking for videos on how to do this since last year. Thank god i finnaly foudn a good one! 5/5

  • what are you supposed to do with their forelock? braid it the same way???

  • yes

  • Your video is a good idea, but excuted poorly. I am sure you do great braids, but I can hardly see what is going on. Next time you need to have the camera on the other side of the horse almost looking down so we can get a better veiw of your hands and not your elbow.

  • $500?? Awesome!! Good job guys! :) I've always wondered how those were done. I ride western so I never had to do them before. Very cool!! :)

  • me to lol!

  • ok you guys need to settle down. are you kidding me a 36yr old bitching at a 15 year old, really mature. I have been riding all my life and button braids are used for high end shows and professionals. depends on the show. my friend told me you were giving her a hard time, you dont wanna give me a hard time so just dont do it. so just stop being rude and critiqueing other peoples videos just cuz you want the pleasure of it ok.

    great glad we understand eachother.

  • we have to do button braids for our care horse exams at my college. when they showed us how to do them I was totally lost... im so used to hunter braids... this video helped so much and made me understand the whole flipping-under-into-a-ball thing.. just wanted to say thanks and this was a great video.

  • I ride Dressage. I dont do button braids. I think they're ugly. and shorten a neck. I do the same braids as when I ride hunters except in the higher levels I use the white tape.

  • too bad if you ever actually get somewhere in dressage you have to do button braids, it's required at some shows.

  • Keep talking, little girl - and find me that info. I SAW your vids. Get back to me when you can jump more than a crossrail. Just keep your mouth shut, you know nothing. You had to turn a plain comment into something nasty, didn't you? Well you got your answer from me, and you deserve it.

  • Obviously you didn't see my videos because there is one of my jump 3'10'' and winning at an eventing show. I don't claim to be the best at anything, but at least I don't need to call someones riding hideous to feel better about myself.

  • acctually, it looks better in Dressage/Jumper/eventing shows to do button braids, if you watched the high levels and olympics, you would see that

  • lol i used to ride in wheel barrows with my friend, brill vid

  • $500 sweeeet..haha

  • haha looks and sounds like fun even tho it kills ur fingers!!!

  • Do you braid a horse's mane like this for hunter jumper to?

  • NO! Do hunter braids, they look better at a hunter show

  • Good turtorial. I was wonering if you can do button braids with rubber bands. Is it possible? If yes, how so?

  • Yes, it is possible. At the end of the braid, you tie it off with a band. Then roll it up part way so its folded the same amount it would be when you do the first pull through with yarn. Then band it (some people use a second band at this point). Then fold it up a second time so its in a ball, and band it. I think yarn or thread (sew-in braids) gives a much better appearance, however.

  • Yes I see. I tried braising with yarn, and it looked really good at first, but since my pony's mane is retarded, the end to the braid became lumpy and some hairs were coming out. Oh well, at least I can braid his tail and it looks decent. :)

  • i would have to agree with xxlax1207 tho who ever that is did sound kinda harsh but with the length of the horses neck u should probly make the bobbles smaller and closer together this will make the neck look longer and more... smart for showing. but u did a beautiful job plaiting and the bobbles are very neat other than that!!

    ttyl!! :)

  • Wow, really amazing!

  • Thank you for sharing ! cute video

  • button braiding looks the best in my eyes ^^

  • this is sooo cute! : ) thanks it helped alot .

  • your braids are far to think and too far apart.

  • They're dressage braids. They're supposed to be thick and spaced out. In hunters, you want as many little & tight braids as possible- in dressage, it's like the opposite. You want as few round braids as possible.

  • well it depends on the neck of the horse, if your horse has a long neck, you can make it look shorter by large braids, and vise versa for a short necked horse

  • WOW... great video!. i love it.

  • my horses mane is crazy! so crazy! i could never do that to it!

  • just pull it to the right length, then wet it down, crazys solved!

  • Ok I could try that. Thanks

  • your welcom

  • omg! thanks sooo much for makin this vid! I have a rated B show jumping show the 30th of august and i am was tryin to find out how to make tight braids that were easy to do. wish me luck at the show (my horse is very green in jumping and i am jumping around 2 1/2ft so thats pretty high for a horse just learning to jump and i only hav acouple weeks 2 practice with him)

  • awe, how did you do ?

my 3 year old off the track tb had a show in baby greens (just 2')

he only just learned how to jump a line and canter to a single jump three days before the show.

lol he did his first course @ the show then came out reserve ! : )

  • a wasnt able to go because 2 days b4 the show my dad got kicked in the head by one of my horse's. so now my dad has a broken jaw. but yea it sorta sucks becuz i gotta redo alll my points next year :(

  • ohh gosh . i'm sorryy : (

    that's a bummer. hope your dad's okay !!!

    <333

  • I'm braiding a dressage horse tomorrow- what do you normally charge?

  • how much do u charge for 1 horse?

  • Could somebody post a video on how to do a correct mudknot. I would like to learn but there is nothing on the net about it.

  • Um. . . Yes, Yes I Would! Lol

  • thanks soo much for the tips. they were really easy to listen to and follow. now to try on my horse....... :P

  • i know its harder than it looks if your just learning how to braid but the video was really easy to follow and im going to try and see how i do.... thanks a bunch!!!

  • Oh, and if you want to, you could also use a latch hook instead of a needle to pull the hair under if your worried about poking the horse or something. That's what we use. Happy braiding.

  • There's not a better way to make money at horse show than braiding. I'm going to start doing it at shows because it's surprising how many people are willing to pay money to get their horses braided. You guys are lucky though, because my trainer braids them, then after their tests, takes them out everyday at shows so they don't look bad for tommorow. We tried to convice here that sleazes work well, but oh well...

  • Great video!! This is an excellent reference for button braids. The only thing I don't agree with is the trimming of hairs that are sticking out- if you cut them, they won't ever grow out! But otherwise, I love it.

  • wow thanks so much for putting this up! i show about 2 to 3 times per month and my trainers usually do the braiding, except i have to pay them haha so i have been trying to learn on my own to save so money! haha thanks again! it was very informative =D

  • haha i also do the same exact thing!

  • I show horses as well and you make this look very easy. I should get practicing and it sounds like you have a ton of fun making money and braiding at the same time.

  • how did u get into this job?!? or r they yur own family horses?!?

    Hoselover2008 <3

  • Lmao @ the ending.

and yes, yes i would ;]

  • thank you so much for the refresher course! i am a braider too, but we have long manes--until now. what was is no more. so thank you!

  • LOL Cute video.

Cool way to make some cash... hum. I should get practicing!!

  • thank you sooo much i'm going to a show soon and i needed some tips on braiding this helped so much you have very flexible fingers by the way

  • omg thank you so much for having this up..it helped.

  • Wow, I wish I could do braids like that! Great video, but I didn't like the angle of it, your hands was "blocking" the view... But I did saw enough to understand a little... (Sorry for my english!)

    // Jossan - Sweden

  • great video! :] and i LOVE the song. hehe switchfoot is great.

  • nice this is what im doing for my summer job...yup

  • Wow, $500! I would be super soar the next morning as well. xD Great video though, it helped me a lot with the whole braiding thing... I usually get lost. :/

  • this is going to help me so much!

how long have you been braiding for?

  • about a year now. :)

  • good video!!

  • Very nice guide! I'll try it =)

And how can u braid so much horses without falling asleep? do u also compete at the morning after braiding so many horses?? O.o

  • Oh gosh no, lol. We don't compete at the shows we braid at. :)
