  • This was really really fantastic.

  • Gay people not marrying is not discrimination. That law is applied equally to everyone. It is not like gay cannot have happy unions with marriages. What gays need to realize is that not everyone is going to think that gay marriages are legit. If federal law that allows all of America have gay marriage, will that end the fight for same sex rights? I do not believe that is so because what gay people want is acceptance of their preference. But everyone should respect and harm no man or woman.

  • @loseuwill

Are you really this stupid? As a gay man i dont care what you think. I care that you stay out of my way of EQUALITY. Whether you think it ligit or not does not matter to me. Getting married for me has nothing to do with you, will not affect the way you live, will not affect the way your marriage ends. You speak of not harming but there are many ways you can harm someone with out hitting them with a stone. What you wrote harms what America is/should be all about.

  • @goldenboy5187

Obviously you cared enough to insult me. My views will not interfere with you sleeping with your man or being in a loving relationship. Call down and stop overreacting. If someone on youtube writing about how gays shouldn't be beaten constitutes in harming people, you have some other issues to work out.

  • Does anyone know where I can transcript to this? Too many fabulous aha moments

  • Monogamous marriage is a socialist trick of the churches used to control your behaviours and property.

    Why not polyandry or polygyny?

Henry VIII, despite what historians will say, threw the Papists out of England for this very reason.

Then Elizabeth I became prisoner of the Presbyters for this very reason.

Monogamy is a meme of tyranny masked with an esoteric hobgoblin created by man.

Mammalian evolution can only occur with heterosexual relationships.

    Religious faggots deny evolution.

  • I love that comment, Less they forget to be judgmental and unwittedly slip in to love and mercy. If once group is written out of the constitution to day, others will be written out tomorrow.

  • Great speech. Thank you for posting.

  • This should be seen by everyone, everywhere. the truth.

  • Go 'head, Julian!!! Go 'head!!!!

His speech clearly hits the mark and rightly calls out Black homophobia and our (the Black community's) selfishness to support all struggles for equality as our own.

    I love this man!

  • This was brilliant. I loved how he took the bible, that is used so often to justify homophobia, discrimination and marginalization and turned the same levitical garbage right back on the unreads ear. Most don't read or let alone think for themsleves. They just unthinkly sprew out the same poison that they have been passed down generation after generation. I laughed so hard! He proved that Joe Christian can't have it both ways and how rediculous some of this bible thumping really is.

  • Brilliant!

  • @Haven923

    Very Inspiring speech.

  • Fuck Obama. THIS man should of been the first Black president. And he come with brains :)

  • Amazing Amazing Amazing speech by Julian Bond. He is one of my heroes and should get more media play and accolades than do Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton

  • Beautiful and well spoken...

  • Julian Bond's intelligence is so elegant and so awake. What a beautiful speech.

  • This is an absolutely amazing speech. I've rarely ever listened to speeches this long before. Good job, Julian. :)

  • This is one of the most rational, intelligent speeches I have ever heard. Listen for a while.

  • julia bond has an official channel go to ---- iamjuliabond she is very interesting to watch, very fun and goofy she is probably gonna get big and do some comedy....

  • Equality is a human right, and although we may at times have separate beliefs, we all need to bond together to support each other for equality and support for all...including the gay and lesbian gay community, who seeks to enter into the institution of marriage. "We're all okay, and some day marriage for all of us will be okay too."

  • So we have to ship you on that island too? Come on, don't even deny it. Most people who read your comment know, that you live a lie. ;)

  • Please quote those strawmen, one by one.

    Thank you.

  • Hey Booyah, did you listen to Mr Bond's speech?

"So, it does not matter the rationale - religious, cultural, pseudo-scientific - no people of good will should oppose marriage equality...

So we all have work to do in terms of education and enlightenment..."

If you didn't listen to it, please do. If you did, please listen again!

  • Why should I listen to someone who has given up their moral autonomy and instead has opted to do and think "what the Bible says". Your ethics are an ethics of "I was told to think/do it".

    Pathetic. Get out.

  • Blah blah god.

  • This was like... WOW! (I'm speechless).

  • A COMMENT FROM YOU! I'm so happy right now!

  • absolutely incredible speech....please watch from beginning to end-make the time.

Personally I can't wait to look back on all of this 'struggle' as HISTORY, and will be proud to be a part of making it so.

  • THIS IS REALLY AWESOME, GREAT 1000 Stars OF LOVE

  • Awesome!

  • Funny how Coretta's stance on gay rights becomes unmentionable when the religious right defines "civil rights" as something unique to the ongoing stuggle of Americans of African descent.

  • i agree him.we should fiht for equality for all people, gay lesbians or something else

  • I've said this so many times, but this kind of movement is one of the very very few causes I like your country for.

  • If only this speech was available prior to the Prop 8 vote!

  • great speech. wonderfully written.

  • Thank you God.

  • Thanks you very much for this enormous speech !!!!!!

    from Steven,

May ♥ love ♥ be with you

  • Wow, I am a lesbian who got married to the love of my life last year and I cried and smiled when I viewed Mr. Bond . I am white who has worked for low income balck women for 20 years and could not understand why they voted against me...I will definitely share this...maybe it will help build a "bond". Thank you Mr. Bond.

  • Great speech, definitely will pass this on

  • this video needs to be spread around...i suggest everyone to email this to their whole mailing lists

  • wow... "Civil rights are positive legal prerogatives: the right to equal treatment before the law. These are the rights shared by everyone. There is no one in the United States who does not, or should not, enjoy or share in enjoying these rights. Gay and lesbian rights are not special rights in any way. It isnt 'special' to be free from discrimination. It is an ordinary, universal entitlement of citizenship."

  • I love Julian Bond!

  • Amazing

  • Equality here we come ^_^ !!!!!!

  • this is my introduction to mr. bond and i'm converted! i was inspired to make a donation and become a member, even though i'm a little on the white side of the spectrum - not that it matters to me.

  • ho2cultcha -- what? would you say that again so that it makes sense?

  • it was a wonderful and touching speech and i was moved to make a donation to the naacp - and became a member at the same time. is that clear enough, tannsolo?

  • got it! I thought you meant that you were thus moved to make a donation to the HRC, even tho etc etc -- didn't make sense. thx.

    This was great to see.

Julian Bond was the board chair of the organization that gave me my first job out of college: the Institute for Southern Studies. I was just consistently impressed by his eloquence and his very incisive analysis of things.

  • i was blown away by this speech. i'd never heard him before, and now i'm telling everyone about him. there aren't many folks who can take on such difficult subjects and yet remain a pleasure to listen to.

  • Winston is a friend of mine, too, and he is an inspiration. Winston reminds us of how far we have come and challenges us to fight for how far we must still go.

  • An absolutely excellent speech!

  • This was the most touching speech i have heard in quite a while, and the most eloquently said. If this does not reform the hearts of all people who hear it, people who have brains to see the logic and sensibility of what was said, then there is still much work to be done...This isn't about gay rights it's about human rights, and after all, we are all human, thus it follows that we should all have access to the same civil rights accorded to us by the constitution!

  • I've long been an admirer of Julian Bond. This brings it to a whole new level. What a fantastic, honest, logical speech. This should be mandated viewing for everyone. Well done Mr. Bond!

  • This is a brilliant speech that needs to be heard far, far more broadly.

  • This is a proud moment for me and America. As an openly black man growing up in this country and around the world I have been a victim of senseless homophobia from my own people. I pray this will alter the opinion of people that simply don't know any better. Ignorance is not bliss. It's dangerous.

  • I want to meet him and take his picture, frame it as a reminder that there are voices that speak for me ..

A gay latino partnered to a Jewish Italian (artist)

    Thank you Mr Julian.

  • Wow, this is a powerful speech! Why don't items like this make it to CNN?

  • How sad that both sides take scripture out of context -- just remember that Jesus was silent on homosexuality.

However, Jesus did say to love your neighbor as yourself.

WWJD? He'd love and accept everyone, regardless of sexuality.

  • You have no idea what Jesus said or what he was silent about... The Pauline Church, King James and the publisher of your bible told you what Jesus said or didn't say. No one who is living can say they know Jesus or anything he said, implied or didnt say. If you do, you just another liar.

  • You are a jerk.

  • He's taking the scripture out of context to make a point. His scriptures were out of context just as the scriptures that Christians use to persecute gay people are out of context. At the end of the day, it's all due to ignorance.

  • Didn't you listen?

  • That was one of the greatest speeches I have ever heard in my entire life!

  • Very true!!

  • <3 so happy to see people standing together.

  • Thank you Mr. Bond and God bless you. I fought for Civil Rights [1959] from HS on and your speech gives me much hope, especially after the defeat of Prop. 8.

  • i was so happy to be there. this man is my new hero!! i wish everyone in america could hear this speech. there would be no more prop 8. time to fight for our rights. bless you, julian bond.

  • Phenomenal, Poignant and Right on time. Julian Bond has spent years speaking out for the LGBT/Queer community...I am overjoyed with this speech.

  • t was one of the most amaaaaazing! nights of my Life..to be in that Ball Room and Witness Great Empowering Speeches. I felt like the beginning of a new movement. I hope they post Dianne Feinstein's and mayor Villaraigosa's speech 's as well. Mr Bond ...my hats off to you..thanks for standing with us.
