Instead of filming this with the intent of a "funny" youtube vid, then why didn't ppl concentrate their efforts on going up hill, and try to revert traffic, so less damage could be done.. after the 1st car, theoretically, 8 or 9 cars could have no damage => 20k-50k less insurance claims.
Taking in account the # of vids of this kind, not to mention those incidents never ending up on here, the expenditures saved would be in the millions.
the least he could do is go walk to the top, and warn the other drivers, or call the police, and have them post at the top of the hill with a detour sign..

Maybe it's just me, but as a Canadian, if the roads are that icy, I tend not to drive. If they are snowy and slippery, I avoid hills. I slow down. I drive for conditions. Mind, there are lots of people around here who still fly down the road in conditions like that--and end up in the ditch.

For years we've BEGGED transportation agencies to ban the chemical DHMO from roadways during October-April. Certain situations, specific but common, make the chemical VERY dangerous to drivers. But none will listen to our knowledge of this substance, and this is what happens when you ignore our warnings.

Almost makes it look like a good idea to use winter tyres (tires) in winter.....but I don't imagine anyone could really be bothered. In many other countries its the law.
If that was in Philadelphia.....and it's a re-curing problem in winter. Home owners should ban together a file a class action on the city for failing to salt that area. Further ban again and place rock salt in the area sue the city to recover the monies spent doing the city's work.
Well atleast no ones hurt... Its hard to tell when some roads are iced over but once your on a hill with that thick of ice there really isn't much to do. And in this situation last thing I would try to do is get to the top.. Alert local authorities to stop traffic, as you can see cars where crashing in every direction, there really wasn't a safe way to the top, ice doesn't care if your a pedestrian on a side walk.

@Benji19921 Cars nowadays are equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), so holding the brake down in slippery conditions is the right thing to do to let the system work properly. In this case, it was people going too fast and not realizing that the road had iced over so badly.
@YellowFDkid ABS is not affective on ice, it only works as it should on dry and general wet tarmac. On ice the system does not pick up the wheel has locked as there is no friction against the tyre. The best thing to do as with standard brakes is to quickly pump the pedal yourself.
Or to avoid this sort of mess they should of shut the road at the top of the hill after the first or second accident!
I love all the comments about people being dumb drivers. If you vehicle is accelerating while SIDEWAYS, there is nothing your going to do about it! On a road THAT SLICK, I don't think there is a "know how to drive on it", especially on a hill with a grade like that. Your only hope is to not leave the house, but sometimes, that isn't an option.
They need a special license for driving in that kind of weather. Why would you do that? I can admit I do not know how to drive in that kind of weather and I will never attempt it!! No way!! I would rather walk!

If that was in Philadelphia.....and it's a re-curing problem in winter. Home owners should ban together a file a class action on the city for failing to salt that area. Further ban again and place rock salt in the area sue the city to recover the monies spent doing the city's work.

Well atleast no ones hurt... Its hard to tell when some roads are iced over but once your on a hill with that thick of ice there really isn't much to do. And in this situation last thing I would try to do is get to the top.. Alert local authorities to stop traffic, as you can see cars where crashing in every direction, there really wasn't a safe way to the top, ice doesn't care if your a pedestrian on a side walk.

@jaden1592 You get out of your car and go to the top of the hill to keep other people from making the same mistake. The one thing all these "ice hill" videos have in common are these idiots standing by there car waiting for others to come down and crash into them instead of preventing further caos

@Benji19921 Cars nowadays are equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), so holding the brake down in slippery conditions is the right thing to do to let the system work properly. In this case, it was people going too fast and not realizing that the road had iced over so badly.

@YellowFDkid ABS is not affective on ice, it only works as it should on dry and general wet tarmac. On ice the system does not pick up the wheel has locked as there is no friction against the tyre. The best thing to do as with standard brakes is to quickly pump the pedal yourself.
Or to avoid this sort of mess they should of shut the road at the top of the hill after the first or second accident!

I love all the comments about people being dumb drivers. If you vehicle is accelerating while SIDEWAYS, there is nothing your going to do about it! On a road THAT SLICK, I don't think there is a "know how to drive on it", especially on a hill with a grade like that. Your only hope is to not leave the house, but sometimes, that isn't an option.

again, more comments about idiots not using the right equipment/tires...blah blah blah. I admit im an idiot because i love going out when its snowing and driving around in it. however, except for one occasion when i was trying to spin out and wrecked, i have never wrecked because i take my time and go slow and adjust my driving to the conditions. The idiots in most of these videos are driving like its 80 degrees F and dry pavement in the summer.
