  • 1:334 min ... THE BIG BREAK!

    Fascinating as always ...

    Do you remember The Lovin' Spoonful?

    Mama said to papa: "Let the boy boogie woogie!"

  • Without this man:

    No Led Zeppelin

    No Rolling Stones

    No AC/DC

    No George Thorogood

    No Blues Traveller

    No MUSIC

  • right on.. w/o JLH & Muddy Waters there'd be nothin

  • SO TRUE, without John Lee, who would want to listen to music? No Chuck Berry or Jimi Hendrix either

  • @quadleaf95 You could spend days making a list. John Lee Hooker is the Mozart of blues rock boogie. Even Ray Charles owes a huge debt of gratitude to JLH, and Brother Ray was just as important a pioneering influence. There would not be another major influence in R&B until James Brown and George Clinton, and look where they'd be without JLH or Ray Charles.

  • @quornholio: folks don't realize how much music evolved from blues

  • @quornholio Spoken like an individual who knows his stuff and definitely done some homework. Cheers to you and many,many thanks.

    M.K.

  • @quornholio No Who either-the stuttering in My Generation was inspired by John Lee Hooker according to Pete Townshend. Very well said my friend!

  • @quornholio Don't forget ZZ Top, their "La Grange" is based on this tune, and the "Haw, haw, haw, haw"'s come from his "Boom Boom"....

  • @quornholio yea and he was a big influence on Nick Cave too

  • @quornholio Yes brother.....it's awesome isn't it??

  • @quornholio

    Add Hendrixs to the list too. I hear a LOT of Hooker's vocal style in the later generation Hendrix.

  • @quornholio in an even ended universe things are basically concentric no matter their attitude

  • @quornholio we could do without those people, just John Lee Hooker

  • @quornholio

    did he invent music?

  • @quornholio no great music

  • @quornholio without son house..no john lee hooker...dont preach..we know the blues

  • @quornholio please dont group Blues Traveler in with these other legends

  • @quornholio THANK YOU. There's a lot of Hair Farmers who don't get that.

  • @quornholio No Elvis? No Beatles?

  • @quornholio No Peter Green, no Allman Brothers, no Doors, the list is endless.

  • this was his first hit and wot a hit !!!

  • I byu " No Friend Around" single collection for JLH many many years ago,

  • @MrColeStone couldn't have said it any better than that, one of the greatest songs ever

  • what a wonderful voice he had

  • hell yeah!

  • John Lee was a great player, he really could play RIP

  • I feel the blues!

  • DAMN!!!! You can feel this in your soul!!!

  • Amour. JLH was Real-n-Raw like it should be in Life

    Respect

    ❤❤❤

  • Blues you can FEEL y'all! If this stellar tune won't make you tap dat toe, hang it up now 'cause you must be dead.,,,,,,

  • makes everything else seem obsolete

  • You got that right! His voice is like a razor.

  • Thank u Sweetie xxx

  • Jetpower, you got dat right. If you can,t hear the cords from this in Lagrange you gotta de tone deaf ! Even the beat is the same. If ya get the chance check out the round table discussion of several rock legends that was on PBS where they talked about the effect blues had on their works.Clapton,McCartny and several others talked about the early years of rock and its effects.

  • i wish i could play it

  • It's in open G tuning.

  • This is the song that introduced me to the man. Thank god.

  • awesome...

  • not all the pics are of John Lee Hooker some are of his son

  • I saw his son, live, just because he was his son. JLH junior certainly throws himself into a performance, but unfortunately the talent wasn't in the genes.

  • The Healer!

  • thank you

  • There's lots of boogie chillen in the last bit of ZZ Top backdoor melody but I can't see why people think this is where la grange (although seasick steve did nick la grange, just listen to doghouse boogie) is from. they sure get alot from him though; all that cool "haw haw haw" stuff and all the blues in their veins

  • This was Hooker's first hit, on the Modern label in 1948 (How old were your parents then?). Partly because of its timing, and his use of that still-new invention - the electric guitar, Boogie Chillen helped bridge the gap between country & city blues. Hooker was active until 2001.

    Hear Boogie Chillen in ZZTop (Lagrange), Canned Heat (everything), Magic Sam (I Feel So Good), Junior Parker (II Feel So Bad), Billy Boy Arnold, the list goes on and on. Is Hooker still alive? You decide.

  • The Hook may have passed on in 2001 but his music lives forever and that means he lives forever.

  • Blues Brothers pulling up to Bob's Country Bunker.

  • "we the good ol BOys"

    "It's suppose to say Blues Brothers Triumphant Return"

  • "there must be some kind of mistake."

  • no entendeis mi comentario,para mi el mas grande del blues es john lee hoocker,por su autenticidad,esta cancion es parecida a la grange de zz top es lo unico que quise decir

  • Let that boy boogie woogie.

  • who is John Lee Hooker is he dead ?? and what happend with him at this song time

  • BEST BLUES MAN EVER.

  • Just simply put: fucking incredible, real blues or rock or whatever is better than this shit today

  • john lee hoocker is the autentic,the god of blues,to me

  • oh shit this is like zz top!!!

  • guess where zz top got the la grange thing from?

  • Where you think ZZ Top got their licks from?

  • No, ZZ is like the hook.

  • The Boogie Man!!!

    love the HOOK down to his socks.

    sold a million back in 1948 with ______(go wikipedia in case ur just discovering the john lee )...

    you/i, carlos will never ever forget the first time you/i heard His stuff(git, left leg etc.) and then came the voice from the God/...dess--> built -in stereo output.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    'I Never get out of the Hook alive'
    RIP bro
    ibl8
    but be? there ib, coz i gotta hear hendrix and john jamming on 'walking the dog' ++etc.++
  • wow! this is the heart beat of rock and roll
  • Yeas SIr! John Lee tried to sue the Top's for La Grange back in the 80's?90's? anyway...he lost-it's a traditional lick...but yeah, he started many a fine blue's tradition! simply one of the BEST!
  • It is fucking groovy!!!!!!!!
  • so fucking groovy
  • ZZTop riff........LaGrange
    everybody owes this man.
  • Original member of NWA
    lol, same with howling wolf
    muddy waters, leadbelly, even jimi!
  • 1:48---nice Buick Special, about a 1949 or 50 I think.
  • I would kill for his wardrobe!!!
  • What a voice!!!!!!!!!
    What a man!!!!
  • I love them both and I apologize. It's all beautiful from those two guys.
  • I know I sound like a stupid little fanboy, but I got to say that Hendrix will always be the best. He took what Hooker, Waters the Wolf did added the crazyness of Little Richard and much more to make his Freakish blues.
  • i doubt that anybody will ever compare Hendrix with Hooker, it's ridiculous and no use at all
  • Yeah, and Hendrix was just chillin playing the blues like John Lee. Hendrix played in the 60s in San Fran, which means psychedelic drugs were added into the picture. It was blues with a psych. touch.
  • Hendrix was a style unto himself. Until he got into downers (Electric Ladyland) and finally overdosed, he was sensational. I was very fortunate to see him in 1968. I was less than 50 feet away when he lit up a guitar with lighter fluid. Probably would turn me off today, but everybody went wild back then.
  • I fucking hate you (for seeing what I will never be able to)
  • Then it would be wise of me not to mention that I saw Ike & Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Credence, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin (1st US Tour), and many others at the Swing Auditorium in the National Orange Show Grounds, San Bernardino, Calif. And it definitely would be prudent not to mention I never paid more than $8.
  • you sick son of a gun. lol just kidding. that had to be great man. I wish i was around then. i was born in '95.....
  • Southern California is not suitable for human habitation today. But in the 60's it was cheap to live, good pay, unclogged freeways, minimal taxes (thank Gov. Ronald Reagan), easy and free accdess to beaches, mountains and desert. And above all, it seemed (at least to us) to be the center of the pop music universe.
  • I like Hendrix's Blues. Too much of it is Psychedelic hogwash, and it turns me off of him. I like his acoustic blues, he is a very brilliant guitarist, and no one will ever get close, but that goes for every famous bluesman, JLH, Muddy, the Wolf...
  • With just a touch of influence from Englebert Humperdink! C'mon, Hendrix vs. Hooker? Not even in the same class.
  • My second favorite bluesman.
  • Just curious, whos the first?
  • please babe, oh baby, do that boogie for meh that old boogie for me.
  • ..you gettin' never tired of this masterpiece..wow,as said!B)
  • Wow! This song is just amazing. Since a month or 3 i listen to the blues and i love it!
  • a month or 3 you've most probaby been listening to blues all your life and not realized it cause all music comes from the blues in some form or another
  • blues had a baby and they named it rock n roll!!
  • Hey where did you get that last picture?
  • Hooker was one of the best!
    So was Jimmy Reed in his special way.
    I made a tribut to him - an animated short (74 seconds long).
    Click on my name to watch it.
    If you would leave a comment and maybe a rating I would appreciate it.
    Hope we see us on my site.
    Greetings from Germany
  • You see? This music never loses it's supernatural power or depth. It goes on generation after generation. I'm only 14.
    "Let that boy boogie-woogie, it's in him, and it's gotta come out."
  • (19 years old)
    JLH was sooooo good. he has influenced me n so many different ways
  • Hooker was one of the masters of the genre. He pulls that music out from deep down inside him, and it just WAILS away....
    ...wow.
  • He was the best blueser
  • Comment removed
