*sigh* Balisongs are like bikes. there were knives made for utility, and knives made for having fun. Balisongs are for having fun. compare a commuting bike to a BMX. sure the BMX could be used for commuting, but its mainly for tricks, much like the balisong can be used for utility, or self defense, but is mainly used for flipping. So saying that a Balisong is bad for Self defense, is quite trival, because it wasn't made for that. *end rant* Nice flipping! you like the lightness of the 51?

What I did when I first learned aerials is I did catch the blade. I caught whatever got to my hand first. First I learned how to "throw" the knife, then I learned how to catch it. You'd be surprised what you can do if you just say fuck it and go for it. I'm not sure if that's how CL learned, but either way you'll get cut during practice.

If you want cheap but good, go for a Kimura. They're generally agreed upon to be the best cheap knives. That being said, a cheap balisong is still near $100 mark.

Anyone who wants a Balisong in countries like mine with laws like you cant import, and you cant carry...........when your mate goes or yourself goes to somewhere you can buy them take them apart and send them back in bits marked 'replacement blade', replacement handle scale for blah blah knife. And assemble them at homre. No laws broken (sort of) :)
