this may be a dumb question, but I'm recently learning about guitar recording via my laptop..Ive bought a l.r baggs m1 pickup to install in my takamine g406s and been debating about what exactly I need to hook it into my laptop without getting a lot of feedback or low signal like alot of other people have mentioned when reviews ive read. So my question is, can you hook your guitar into the para acoustic DI alone to record to a PC, or do you HAVE to have a interface?
@sugargrl08 You need the interface. I needed my Pro 40 since the PADI only has an XLR output. That still needs to be converted to digital (which is what the interface does) before it can go to your computer. What you're looking for is an audio interface with built-in pre-amps (which they almost always have these days). Various companies build very nice ones at great prices. Think of E-MU, Focusrite, M-Audio, PreSonus and many others. If you need further information, contact me. ;)
@DuskY1991 Thanks a lot man! It totally makes sense now of how it still needs to be converted to use on the computer. I guess I'm so new at this, everything seems to be running together. haha
@sugargrl08 Oh no problem! I know - I've been there too (everybody has!). Don't hesitate to ask things - if people are kind enough they'll help you understand all this. ;)
@Ezerlance Thanks. I've heard of the PZ-Pre but never tried it. I thought I wouldn't need a DI but it's actually very nice because of the EQ capabilities. I do know the Para Acoustic DI is regarded as one of the best pres in it's price point/range. I do think they can be very different in terms of capabilities and tone. I haven't tried anything beside this (unless you regard my AC60 as a DI). My Taylor has the ES-T system.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the DI. Nice sound.

@FahQposeurfag Thanks. Yes, I think the guitar sounds exceptional myself too. The pre-amp is very nice indeed.

Man I loved this video!
I've been using the Tonebone PZ-Pre DI from Radial, and it's very VERY nice.
I've never shook an entire room with the full clear sound of an acoustic guitar without hearing distortion before.
I've never used a DI box with my Taylor 414ce before, so I'm curious about different DI boxes.
Are they really that different, you think?
Is your Taylor equipped with the Expression System?
