  • played son, this is awesome 100% thumbs up, i'm thinking of buying an mpk88, to go with my cdj2000's and maschine because im looking into making my own beats, would you recomend them? i have an electric piano but i'm wanting to move onto one of these as they are a lot more portable for doing gigs with my band etc.

  • @EXiiTBMX thanks :), not sure on it being that portable.... they weigh a lot. I guess it would go in a flight case ok though.

  • @omgboohoo thankyou man, you know if i plug this into maschine by midi, will i still be able to play piano through it seen as it plays that through midi? also what software do you use to run it because it comes with ableton live from the website i am buying it from. sorry for the questions i can pm u if u want i'm just wondering :)

  • @EXiiTBMX hi, it makes no sounds itself.... for something with built in sounds you would be better with a nord stage piano or similar. i use reason with piano refill to make the sound......all through usb

  • @omgboohoo thanks man i get you, because i am wanting to plug into maschine via midi, but this all makes sense now :)

  • i use reason also so is it verry combatible with reason and straight forward to link up first go?

  • @ThePellerhead it is powered by usb so plug in and thats it. preset 2 on the akai is called 'reason' so it's pretty much ready then. i've not used reason in anger with it as i try not to get distracted from piano, but it appears to be all working, like filters on sliders etc

  • @omgboohoo oh that sounds good and simple then :) il give it a lash i think!! thanks for response i really appreciate it :)

  • a stand!!! is it good though the keyboard?

  • @ThePellerhead yeah just a cheap ebay stand... with a shelf fixed to back for screen. Love the controller though, lovely action, but very heavy in both action and weight of the thing

  • @omgboohoo hey thanks for reply!! would you say the heaviness of the action is off putting and wouldn recomend it on this or you think you could just get used to it and it perfectly good as a controller at same time? i seen lots of mixed reviews and also with the studiologic i have been looking at as an alternative, would you honestly recoment akai or go with something else? you play it verry nicely anyhow!! :)

  • @ThePellerhead no i like the action... certainly builds up finger muscles. i guess try others and compare them

  • hey is that thing on a stand or on your work top? im thinking of getting this controller, is it good ?

  • so midi keyboards are the way to go right?you can have any sound right?now drum sounds you can have drum rolls or distorted drums too? and even sample sounds?

  • @ekalb2185 I think so.... I'm running the akai through reason 4 on a quad core pc, then our to the alesis monitors. It's a complete studio in a box, reason can run just about any sound you can think of, i use it mainly for sampled pianos (piano refill), and it sounds really good compared with even the best electrix pianos out there

  • I just figured why get a synthesizer or expensive workstation when you can use a Midi Keyboard that can do any sound you want from softsynths,I dont need the Korg Kronos too much damn money,I'm getting this keyboard instead

  • @ekalb2185 deffo, the days of hardware synths are over (at least for home / studio use)

  • Great playing! which sound card/interface do you use with the MPK?

  • @drichardson1985 hi thanks, the alesis speakers are usb so they are the interface / soundcard and with asio4all drivers latency is not noticable. All running through a bog standard quad core pc. Camera doesnt do the sound justice, but the setup sounds pretty convincing as a piano... certainly up there with best (and reason piano refill is very very playable compared with the more heavy weight softpianos)

  • baby cry

  • Very nice man!! please keep doing it.

  • Very nice playing! I love it.

  • can you please tell what is your opinion on the akai mpk88? I am on stand-by for about 2 months if I should buy it or not. I think I hear the key quite loud. Is that a really big problem? Thank you and very very nice song and play !

  • @VisMed1a I love it.... I'm no expert but compared to the baby grand at my piano teachers house the action is very heavy. Since getting it though I've found I can play with some expression on the grand, and my finger muscles have improved a lot. Before I got it I used to struggle going to play on the grand.

There is a lot of key noise, but too be honest you don't notice it when playing.

  • @omgboohoo So the action is more like a upright piano action? Uprights have harder keys, since the hammers are placed vertically instead of what happens in grand pianos.

  • @mr4y i guess that's right thinking about it... it's not grand like at all, but i like that as it makes playing a grand very easy on the fingers :)

  • Mate I am impressed! How long did it take to learn?

  • @TheSerenityVortex cheers dude... god took a good couple of months to learn, but its probably a good grade 5-6 so abit beyond my ability.

  • @omgboohoo wow! Wish I could play like that. I'm using a lot more soft synths in my stuff these days, but still loving mashing around with samples..

  • @TheSerenityVortex im just a noob mate :). i heard your latest track on facebook (very good production btw) and was gonna comment it sounded like soft syths rather than samples. hw synths just not needed anymore.... that mpk88 im playing is just a giant very heavy usb controller
