  • LOVE THE CAR NOT A FAN OF THE COLOR IDK WUT IT IS ABOUT THAT BLUE IT JUST MAKES ME THINK THAT THE CAR WAS SITTING IN A FIELD SUN BAKING BUT STILL BAD ASS RIDE MAN

  • did all third gen formulas come with the 350 or did some have the 305 motor

  • @jsk8drummer formulas came with both,, this one dosnt have the decals, but if you see one that does,, a formula 305 will say FORMULA on the side, a Formula 350 will say FORMULA 350,, the 350s were avail with 4spd autos only, and the 305s if im not mistaken, (could be wrong) were avail with both the 4 spd auto, and also a BW 5 spd

  • just bought an 88 formula today, badass car

  • I used to check your web page out daily, I always liked your car. I remember e-mailing you a bunch of questions, I ended up not being able to find a third gen Formula and got a 4th gen, this was circa 1999. I still want a third gen Formula though.

  • Thank you for your comments. :)

I just checked out your video. Awesome sounding engine! :)

  • This car looks really familar, your name wouldnt happen to be Tom would it, the car was featured in GM High Tech, TPI terror?

  • Well, as the credits show at the end of the video, yes my name is Tom, lol. :)

Yes, my car was in GMHTP. This car has been featured or pictures of it shown in the following magazines:

    May 99 Car Craft

    June 00 Car Craft

    June 00 Popular Hot Rodding

July 00 GM High Tech Performance

    November 00 Hot Rod

  • xKmotx,

i have a black 89 Formula 350. what do you have in that motor? i must know. that is the best sounding/running 3rd gen ive ever seen or heard. i wanna build mine the same way.

  • First thing I did w/ my F350 was take of the silly decals. I also replaced the raer deck to one without a fin. It was quite the sleeper in it's day.

  • @rrpostalagain sounds like you ruined it

  • Clean looking Formula. I got a black 89 myself with the Borg Warner 5 and 67k. The manual in these cars makes a world of difference in the fun factor.

  • Wait.... you have the 350 engine with a 5-speed? how did that happen?

  • I swapped the stock 700R4 auto trans for a World Class T-5 overhauled and modified by my son-in-law who is a trans specialist. It has all the 5speeds-dot-com JT5 upgrades in it.

  • oh thats cool. did you install it yourself? how much did it cost you to do that?

  • Yes, I installed it myself. Trans parts, clutch, bell housing, master cylinder, etc cost around $3000 IIRC.

  • good looking ride.

  • Thank you. :)

  • The absolute pay off,The B E S T part is people in their Celicas,Impalas,Hondas,Big ego big Trucks/SUV's and so on and so on, writing you off at red light b4 taking up residency in your rear view mirror.

  • What's the difference between a regular and a formula Firebird?

  • Engine, transmission, suspension, wheels, tires, aero spoiler.

  • Looks great with the clean decal-less maui blue paint and the silver wheels! Your car was featured in GM High-Tech Performance years back wasn't it?

  • Thanks for the compliment! Yes, it was in GMHTP a few years ago.

  • love the pacesetter tips.

  • im so jealous i had an 1989 firebird formula and it was maui blue just like yours and i got rid of it big mistake i would do anything to get it back keep that bird on te road

  • Cool car bro, but put back on the decals and factory wheels jmo. Good sleeper. Cool looking TPI too.

  • hey man that is a very nice formula i love it. im about to drop a 350 tpi in my formula i was wondering what you had done to the car that way i could get an idea what to do to mine and what were those dyno numbers when she got dynoed

  • Thanks! Well, the usual stuff, you know. Ported heads, cam, bigger intake and throttle body, 1.6 rockers, headers, etc. When the car was on the dyno in this video it had an auto trans still, and it turned out it was slipping. So the dyno numbers were meaningless. Later, I swapped in a 5-speed and had it tested again on a Superflow chassis dyno and the numbers were 275 RWHP and 340 RWTQ.

  • man thats one sweet ride, i'm hoping to blow the doors of your 3rd gen with mine.....dropping in a built LT1. I already got a complete BMR suspension set up.

  • yeah, I've left enough comments already but still gotta tell you, that is one fine bird. probably my fav 3rd gen I've seen on here so far. 5.7, stick, that awesome blue color and it is healthy... probably one of the most healthy I've seen. I see ya realing in the

4th gens. My mom's 3rd gen def handled better than my 4th Z28. give us a qtr run pleez.

  • that is one FINE lookin firebird....man i love that burnout

  • Thanks :)

  • I have a red 1989 Formula. It's only a 305 though, but it's still a beautiful car. I picked it up as my first car for about $3500 and it only had 63,000 miles on it. The only parts that aren't stock are the spark plugs and wires I think. I wanna do a little here and there each summer to make her a nice restoration piece someday. She's only got some oxidized paint from the crappy 80s paintjob in a few areas and a small amount of rust on the driver's door. I'm buying a parts car for it soon, too.

  • Medium Maui Blue Metallic! same color as my 89 bird

  • You got it! :)

  • I remember my dad threatening to buy a Formula 350 in the showroom window that was that beautiful blue hue as we came back from the lake each weekend. I wanted him to get it soooo bad. I still think it is the best lookin 3rd gen.

  • Great car, i like the gauge layout, what are they

  • LOL I cant get enough of the burnout, where u hit 2nd and she just comes alive!!!!!!!

  • Great car!! Nice production work too! I have an 89 Formula 350---guess I better make a video too

  • Nice Formy!

  • sweet i have the same ride hgandles like a dream when you put on some sway bars and a front steering brace.

  • WOW Gives me some inspiritation!!! what did ya do to the motor that puppy screams

  • My husband has an 89 Formula 305, that car was awesome we had so many great memories. It was T-boned a few years ago and we had to send it to the recycling yard. Watching this vid makes me want to go out and buy another one, without the T-tops, too many problems with leaking.

  • ws6 started in 96

  • No, you are wrong. 1978 was the first year of the WS6 option.

  • True..But i guess you could say like arly third gens(Not second) Really did not call them Ws6..But that is really what it was right?

  • WS6 is an RPO. Regular Production Option. It was an option you could order when you bought the car. WS6 was first available as an option in 1978. It was a suspension package and some other tweaks. As time went on, the popularity of the WS6 "tag" caused Pontiac bean counters to start calling cars "WS6" in order to boost sales and they started putting large, gaudy badges on the cars to draw attention to the WS6 "RPO".

  • Ahh gotcya. So my 1987 Firebird formula does have a ws6 package..well i mean i does say performance suspention in the car it has a huge sway bar..and some other little things too. So yhea gotchya

    Thanks.

  • If memory serves (lol) my friend had an 89 formula WS6 and I think it said so on the wheel centers. could be wrong. you should be able to look at the white tag with all of the options and see the WS6 option there. it's the same place the paint code would be.

  • Very nice car. I have an 89 305 and have been wanting to drop in an LS7 but iam kinda short on something called money.

  • Awesome car man!I have a 88 firebird formula 350 my self but nothing like yours big props man.

  • very very nice man i cant wate till i finsh my formy now lol

  • Beautiful car. Nice vid and burnout. You have a very valuable car. Check mine out when you get the chance. Its only a dyno and I want to put more racing vids on.

  • that looks like so much fun driving on those roads!! nice car too! love it.
