Private ownership has taken hold in China (for example, they recently privatized the last of their national banks). Using a market economy completely goes against Socialism. They are NOT Communist anymore.
And a market doesn't necessarily make a country more powerful; the USSR became a superpower through its command economy.

Socialism is a necessity that emerges from the capitalist mode of production.

I am from Germany and I have read all of their essays in original language and even the educational books from socialist German Democratic Republic. My wife is Chinese and now is a proud US Citizen. She was at TSquare in '89 and had her gf killed next to her by the Chinese army. She cried when she heard about these lights celebrating the same Communist Party who killed her gf and took her Father away for 3 years during the Cultural Revolution. I wish I can tell you how thankful she is to be living in the USA and how sad she is knowing how the Communists destroyed her beloved homeland...
