Actually I disagree with ppl sayin' betta's need large tanks with heaters and filters etc. Thats totally wrong except for maybe where they are sold .... Betta's are designed and are fish that can live in dirty small amounts of water ....therefore they will survive quite nicely in a large bowl with bottled water. Bottled water works well as its pure and free of chemicals. My Betta's do very well this way. Happy and Healthy
@jockboy7 That's totally wrong. Fact: Bettas do NOT live in puddles. They live in rice paddies that are THOUSANDS of gallons, and it's 78-80 degrees (BETTA ZONE!), and it's very clean. 2.5 gallons to 5+ gallons TANK with a filter, heater, plants, gravel, caves, etc to live 5+ years HAPPILY. In a bowl, with no filter, you have to clean it every day. They only live 1-2 years in a bowl with no filter and heater. Bowls are for soup, didn't you know that?
@jockboy7 Bettas actually live in rice patty fields that span miles, it is not healthy to keep one in a dirty unfiltered bowl. On average, bettas live 2 - 4 years in a bowl and live 7 - 10 years in a heated and filtered tank.
@FreeTheSticks yeah unfortunately mine has passed away. i cleaned his bowl every other day but he didn't live very long :( next time i have one i'll definitely be keeping him in a filtered tank
@eightstars You really won't regret it, nothing's better than watching a healthy betta dart around the tank. They are really active fish given the proper conditions.
I used to be really stubborn when it can to housing bettas. Someone had told me betta fish could live great in a 1 gallon bowl so guess wat I went to buy a betta and a 1 gallon bowl, he seemed happy at first but after 1 month he looked horrible and eventually died. Before my little betta died I read on the Internet that bowls are like death traps but I never listened and I'm so srry my betta died because of my ignorance( btw petco also told me bowls are good so pls don't listen to petstores the
@jv777j betta can live in bowls, and they can be very happy, you just have to make modifications. They need a heater, so you could use a reptile pad heater under the bowl and keep a temp gauge on it. Also you should use a filter. For a bowl I'd use an under gravel filter and clean the gravel every week with a siphon. Water changes are important too. For the work involved its easier to keep a betta in a traditional tank, but a 2 gallon bowl can be a happy home for any betta.
i have had bettas for many years and i know why it died its bowl is to small and there is no air suply or filtration it may be a good idear to buy it a taknk that is 1gal or over with a plant so it can hide and get a filter or an air pump if you do this they live up to 2 YEARS and they are healthy it is alot cheaper!
bettas are so cute ive wanted one since sixth grade and now im going to get one tomarrow after 4 years.. eek im so excited :'}
