I have so much respect for Neil Young, I love underground hip hop and Neil Young stands by the same morals that real underground hip hop heads stand for, LOVE OF MUSIC, Neil never sold out, he never allowed himself to be ripped off by the corporations, he stuck by his friends although he had to let some of them go for musical reasons, not to mention his amazing voice and guitar skills (both acoustic and electric) one love for one of the most influencial and spiritual artists out there :)
@TheDemize23 holy shit im so happy to see another hip hop head loving the shit outta neil young. there are grand masters in music. standing beside Grand Master Rza is Grand Master Young.
@Superman54 haha, RZA's a beast, yeah I don't know any hip hop fans that like young but I don't think there's any rappers out there that I respect as much as Neil
@Rahoorkhuitable Thanks for that! Didn't know him, though the funny thing is that I do know something about Danny Thompson, but mainly just as having joined Tim Buckley for some UK shows.
This version is the best. Sometimes songs get better when artist evolve it but this guitarplay he do in this is so much better than the following versions I see in youtube. The way he take the accord like it sounds going backward is fantastic.
@BonneauZ28 I thought his cover of it was just amazing. Obviously it's not as good as the original. Also just because he didn't play some of the same riffs that Niel plays doesn't mean that he can't. It's a cover so he turned it into his own, tried to make it a little more original to him. It wouldn't really be a cover if he played the same exact thing as this.
@UpperAir17 Simplifying a song isn't really a good way of making the song yours. He just cut out most of the good stuff and added very little, if anything, of his own.
@BonneauZ28 uh, to make a song of others "yours" it is best to play it the way one likes to play it preferably. if you like to play a song like it is then you do so. if you like to simplify, complicate, cut, rearrange or reinterpret it then you do so. as long as the musician likes it it's always a good way of making a song yours.
If asked i would choose this version Of Cowgirl in the Sand as the best Neil Young song of all great songs he ever written.Love the guitar playing and singing.Goes right into my heart.
@HumbugHeroes sometime in 1967. he wrote this and 'down by the river' after waking from a dream. he had the flew and was taking some form of perscription cough syrup.
I was at the concert at the Baltimore Civic Center back in 72. He tried to play an acoustic set, the crowd kept yelling for electric music. He got mad after several attempts to quiet the assholes in the crowd, so he left the stage for the duration of his acoustuc set and the intermission. Crowd was about to riot when he came back out said nothing, and played a 45 minute electric set and left. Enough said about "Charm City".
NEIL YOUNG IS SO DAMN GREAT. MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME AND IF I COULD JUST TOUCH THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT OR BUFFALO SWEDE LEATHER. I LOVE THE MAN I KNOW THAT SOME OF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.
Not only is this one of the best set lists, it's one of the best sounding recordings and the best looking footage. Everything is warm, intimate, and at the same time it's cold and tells you exactly how Neil Young feels, distant and estranged. Massey Hall, Harvest and After The Gold Rush will be playing in my house til the day I die.
neil young is one of my favs, but he has tendency to disapoint live. massey hall is great, but filmore is a rip off, DON'T BUY IT, it claims to be a classic dvd but is only a bunch of lame photos, thanks neil for taking twenty dollars.
bloody marvelous! Great version. How many songs are there that sound so good and so different when done electric or acoustic? Neil, thou art a genius.
Probably when volume 2 of the Archives comes out. Volume 1 contains Neil's 1972 oddball documentary film "Journey Through the Past" which indicates that Neil isn't leaving out stuff that he used to feel wary about!
