@ThePurplePebble I believe the moral is that all cultures have many things to learn from each other. And that compassion and understanding are far more powerful and effective than cruelty and ignorance.
i like how childrens film makers sneek in flirting and sexual tension, its just what an animation for 5 year olds needs right, and of course the whipping and death as well
Ummmm, Good Work but Bad Idea for the story. There was a lot of fun story in Thailand or Siam that is not about our king. But nevermind, cause you already done this animation and i already scream about the black tiger, the acting of my king, young prince punched by little boy,the marry clothes of Tuptim, the way worship for Bhudda etc. and Yess!! of course is fun with some jokes for children but every 10 minutes you just make "HELLO!!!! What the F--- is going on!!! = ="
For those of you who fantasize about Ms. Anna and the King marrying, consider this:
...The King already has seven wives. I highly doubt Ms. Anna would be amenable to becoming the eighth addition to that collection, no matter HOW understanding she is of their customs.
lolz did anyone see at 1:37 he reached up a hand to her chin and they were like JUST about to kiss then she drew away singing her little dancing song?? and then he looked down kinda sad?
@blueeyeschick The first wife is the one who welcomed Anna into her room, the only one who spoke english. She also pointed out to Anna that the Prince and Tup Tim were forbidden to each other before the "Young Lovers" song. It's not explained in this movie, just something remembered from The King and I (Real Life, Yul Brenner version)
Silly Anna! Just good friends? Are you sure??? More like a new love to me! Make a second one please... a second part... where they relationship develops :P
Looks like Mrs. Anna just got a demotion: instead of being a beautiful, gem and gold encrusted, protected palace with a room big enough to house the Coliseum, she gets a modest two story house.
Anybody else notice that before they danced they were high up enough to see the house, but at the end, they were dancing on the ground floor? Lol just saying. :P
oh mi goodness gracious!! I really wanted them to kiss!! They are so cute. I love his bold move there when he pulled her closer at 2:44 :). Very nicely done Your Majesty!! ;D
You know i never liked the end of this movie. In the real movie he dies before anything can happen and my way to end this cartoon/movie is that they kiss at the end.
To me its not offical untill they kiss.:( kinda wish they did.
We did not dance at the banquet- but I did fly a hot air balloon and did not die of self-imposed starvation and heart-ache like I did in the original version. Then again, there was no rendition of Uncle Tom's Cabin either- so I don't know what the audience was expecting.
well her husband in Heaven is VERY upset! It would have been better if they stayed friends. I mean she dreamed of her true love often and suddenly she wants the king? Doesn't sound like true love to me :S
@Shaleyra Honestly, If she's moved on, I would think her DEAD husband would be happy. No need to stay around to protect a wife when a KING can do that. He can finally Rest in Peace.
OMG! Can you say I giggled like a little girl?!.... Yes - Yes I did. <3 And now Im going to go off and enjoy my massive grin and little girl fantasies
For ten years, I had thought that Anna and the King fell in love somewhere in the middle of the movie. Now seeing their blossoming relationship at the end disturbs me. Perhaps because I can relate to both their children. It's unnerving to see your parents fall in love with people who aren't your...parents.
@Mabh95 If you watch the original movie- it's clear that Anna and the King have a great romantic chemistry. They can't be together, though, for many reasons, and at the end, he basically wills himself to death; despite having multiple wives and concubines. While the crown prince begins his reign as king and makes proclamations, he dies.
@Ultimateicecreamcake The king had lots of wives. Disney didn't want to advertise a man with multiple wives.....but watch the 1959 version with Yul Brenner! It's AMAZING!
@Ultimateicecreamcake you actually see his wives in the movie. When they are at the temple each wife is sitting next to their respective child/children. It just never outwardly states that they are his wives.
its really sad how the culture in the movie was being taken over and changed. thats what really happens, different is changed, but they made it seems right and just. how sad.
This is excatley how I imagine fallling in love; wearing a big poofy skirt, learning to dance wiith a guy who never wears a shirt, and busting out into random song that we both magically know the words too....yup that would be the life
God, this was awful. If they cut out all the stupid bits with the fucking monkey and the fat Chinaman, maybe it would be somewhat tolerable, but then it would only be a half hour long! Nostalgia Critic should review this shit. It's like movie cancer.
I remember I use to love this movie as a kid and I have to admit after watching it again I still do :D. Though the barely there romance between Anna and the King annoys me. I wish it was more played out instead of it being barely there.
Wow, I didn't know they had the little romance element between Anna and the King in this version. I guess when I was little I couldn't pick up on it, since 1)They didn't end up kissing, like couples do in every other cartoon 2)The King had a wife (well, several, but I didn't pick up on that fact either when I was little LOL) and 3)I thought there was something more potent going on between Edward and Anna.
I thought at the end they were just dancing as friends, but I'm glad there's more to it. :)
@Lola19184 They like each other. It's more obvious in the 1956 version. But they don't really get together as an official couple or anything...I'm pretty sure their dance is the closest they get. But that's kind of the charm of their story, IMO, especially in the 1956 version. If you haven't seen that one, YOU REALLY SHOULD. It's way better than this version, though this is sort of entertaining. :)
i have made a play list of all the kids films that are hard to find to make it easyer for all the big kids. its called s.godmouther and other films. check it out
You teach! You teach! Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I think that's one of the best interactions between the two characters. The bad guy is still the best though. All the rest is a bit silly and robotic unfortunately. I like the original better although I have to remind myself that this is for children. The lack of proper language if the ( bad memory) natives (aside from the bad guy) was a bit grating here and there.
I love 1:37 :) It's like he tries to kiss her, put she's too busy dancing. His face makes it seem like he's thinking "crap, missed my chance". lol best couple ever <3
@AwesomeGurlieXD - Yeah but think of all the work and weight underneath all that skirt - not so easy to move once you get it on, and even harder to get off.
When Anna and the king dancing, the king stopped everytime to learn how to dance and King is a very fast learner and I was so suprised because I cannot learn so quickly like the king and I want to be a fast learner like the king and the king has a good memory because Anna and someone were dancing together and the king was watching that and the king remembered that hands so I think he has a good memory! Mel age 8

This version of The King and I is SOOOO Aladdin-ized:
-The big cat as a palace pet
-The mischievous little monkey
-Ms. Anna is an upper class and well-bred, but VERY spunky and strong-willed woman.
-The King is kind, but incredibly absent-minded and too traditional.
-Kralahome is a carbon copy of Jafar.
-Royalty cannot marry commoners, or even their own servants, until the King changes the law.
-The hilarious and incompetent Master Little is a typical animated feature lackey.

One of my favourite animated couples ever. I was such a weird kid.

I'm very Thai people don't speak like that hahaha
And I'm very sure a white guy plays the King ><
I love how even though this movie has so many holes in it, it's still one of my favourite movies to date <3
