What happens when GoogleVoice becomes too complicated to use. Is it going to be limited to those people who feel comfortable using technology? Will GoogleVoice be the 21st century Ma Bell?
Anyone could use this kind of technology for business cards, selling things, bringing in more costumers, making surveys, text message marketing is the future. I use it for my coffee shop in Vegas, it creates a closer bond between the customers and the company, pretty cool stuff. liveDOTyeptextDOTcom/promocode/down

why is it when someone sends me SMS to my GV number it goes to my cell phone SMS?? Why does it NOT go to my GV number? If any1 knows please help. it's costing me 20 cents everytime to receive
Also for any of you out there who wants to use their GV number from your iphone, you can now buy the GV Mobile+ app from the app store $2.99, but it's not by google, its by a third party app developer: SK Dev Solutions or if you have jailbroken your iphone you can go into Cydia and buy it there for $1.99
@Hayaserforeveer Go to Google Voice from your desktop, then hit settings. Go to Phones and hit edit on your mobile. When the options show up (Name, Number, Phone Type etc.,) Uncheck the box that says "Receive text messages on this phone". Now, texts won't be forwarded, but can still be accessed by the mobile site or iPhone App/Android App.
thanks for responding to my questions, but only problem now is that the iphone app (3rd party, not by google) doesn't have push, so when someone sends sms to my gv number, I have to manually check every so often to see if anyone sent me an text. I've been reading rumors on blogs & media sites that apple finally approved google's gv app and is set to be released in Nov. if true, that would be great and hope that google's app will be awesome and have push for sms
@Hayaserforeveer I'm almost certain that Google Voice has an option to forward texts to Email, so you could set up a Yahoo email or any email that supports push and you would have a temporary solution.
@moni921 Hey did you ever figure this out? I'm trying to send texts from my phone using my GV number. Right now it just sends them using my cell number.
does this mean free sms? on the features section of google voice "Free SMS: send, receive & store text messages online" it said that. can someone please answer my questions.
lets say i got 3 cell phones all different numbers, google gives u a number right? do i get to choose wat cell phone gets that number and have everything fowarded to one cell phone?
What about initiating an SMS from the mobile I'm forwarding Google Voice calls to? That's gonna be frustrating for the receiver as they'll still be getting SMS from the old # after I've given them my new Google #.
Each person in your contacts list is assigned a unique 406 area code number when you receive a text from them on your phone. If you store this 406 area code # to their contact in your phone's address book and set it as the default number to call, all calls and SMS will be routed through Google Voice. Hope this helps!
@mynicedogs Yeah I agree it's quite a fanboy exaggeration.. But there's a number of reasons this is a really good service... for example, its for those of us who don't have texting plans on our phones, or for those of us who want to be able to text internationally for free.
As far as a cell phone goes, I doubt very much anyone has free text, you still pay for text, the only diff. is maybe you have unlimited, cell phone provider just tacks that cost onto your bill, then says "Hey I 'll give you Free Text" (Ha!) ;)

how to send a sms from a cell fone, the first time, not replying to someone
ericcartmansh 2 years ago 3
It says how to at 0:20.
alheadbme 2 years ago
yes, i see that one, what i want to know is, is there a way to initiate a sms with someone using your fone and not the computer
ericcartmansh 2 years ago
I haven't found a way to do that yet. I don' t think you can, other than using the internet on your phone.
alheadbme 2 years ago
Be nice if one could read/receive the SMS messages and send/reply via GoogleTalk (IM).

I agree. That's the one big reason that would keep me from using GV. Great idea, but still flawed.
