When you started to use the pink eraser going vertical and it was like a blury shadow or reflection of some of the trees and stuff that would look it was standing over the lake or water, that was my favorite part xD.

How did you do all of the details on-shore? I'm having trouble with that stuff. I always run out of things to draw when I try to stack them. What I mean is, did you think through all of the details on the shore, every grass blade, every plant, every log, every whatever or did you just draw a bunch of lines and shade it and make it look like you did the above?

@Zargogo When I did the details on the shore i didn't try to really draw anything. Its all just scribbles that look like leaves, sticks, etc. You can try to add a ton of detail by drawing individual leaves and grass, just try not to pull your hair out if it takes forever :)

The drawing in this video is actually the second attempt at doing this river, I tried to add too much detail in the first one and it ended up looking bad, especially with the way charcoal can smear.

@pinsetter1991 Thank you for the answer. I knew I had to do something similar... but you know, sometimes the SIMPLEST thing looks the best. Especially if you play around with shadows. Detailed doesn't guarantee success. That's my lesson for the day. You should also try drawing pencil only. I'd like to see that. :)

@Roflcopterface Spray it with a workable fixative spray (or hairspray as a last resort) hairspray might turn your paper yellow though. I keep my art in a portfolio. you can find them pretty cheap.
