  • heavy sounds alot smarter in his own language

  • No one in Russia saw this video.

  • The lip-synching... holy shit, it was spot on! It's kind of confusing, really...

  • Apparently Russia is so awesome that "gun" and "baby" are the same word.

  • @GrandmaTuffits Baby = "kroshka" Gun = "pooshka". Not the same.

  • @ElvendanGmod In the original, he asked "Who touched my gun?!". In this he asks "Who touched my baby?!".

  • Russian ~ Polish

    Goddamnit...

  • Interesting how he sounds smarter, and more awesome.

  • He sounds calmer, nicer and smarter.

    Still very cool anyhow!:P

  • uCHARSHKO!

  • ruski jest podobny do polskiego

  • 0:25 i heard him say a 50 bucks of karne-meat

  • that's a fat ass baby!

  • that sounds better!!

  • Is this Fanmade?

  • voice needs more gruff, but great attempt

  • actually, 'cry some more' just isn't a set phrase in russian, that's why they replaced it. it would have sound weird

  • he also has a phd in russian literature.

  • This is the original.

  • @spacecreep007 actually the origional is in english

  • @spacecreep007 Indeed it is. Nor surprised that he would say. "And this...is by baby."

  • SING WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!

    hahaha

    cool....

  • i dont get it but, as heavy says... VERY GOOD!

  • Russians are cool.

  • 0:35 sounds like american heavy to me

  • BOOLEH

  • I assume the "bullet" part was borrowed from English?

  • Hahaha. Cool.

  • NY_NEMËTYNK is heavy in russian :D? lol give up of learning that xD

  • @muglertf2 it pronounce like 'pulemetchic'

  • this is real rigth

  • You need 10 977 560 rubles to fire this weapon for 12 seconds!

  • He seems nicer in russian

  • You need $400,000 to shoot from this gun for 12 seconds?

  • Shashu

  • SING WHILE YOU STILL CAN! Cool.

  • Is it me, or is the clip of him laughing taken directly from the English version? Could the Russian voice-actor not do a satisfactory laugh?

  • @MigeulP Why waste time recording a laugh in another language when you have a perfect serviceable/universal laugh already?

  • @Nani101 You may as well ask "Why have a Russian voice actor read a Russian translation of a script for a Russian character when we can splice the syllables of the English recording into Russian?"

It's kinda jarring for a character to suddenly have an almost completely different voice when they laugh.

  • @MigeulP No, that's different. Russian has sounds that English doesn't have, and vice versa. But laughs are universal. Tone, pronunciation, emphasis, etc ... change, even within the same language. That's why we don't use AI voices to read audiobooks. But a laugh is a laugh. I don't laugh differently when I speak Cantonese as opposed to when I speak English. That's like saying a scream will sound different in, say, Swahili.

At any rate, both bouts of maniacal laughter sounded fine to me :)

  • @Nani101 My point was I could tell that the laugh was not the same voice as the Russian dialog. It took me out of the video (In terms of focus, anyway) and I can scarcely imagine why they wouldn't have the Russian voice actor record his own laugh.

  • @MigeulP It didn't seem off, or in too different a voice, to me. Ah well. Maybe your ears just sensitive, ja?

  • He sounds a lot more confident in Russian. Also much more badass.

  • There is a russian proverb that says "a bullet is stupid." and here he says "I've yet to meet someone who can outsmart a bullet."

essentially he's calling his enemies idiots.

  • @jakonen Well, dumber than idiots :P

  • His accent in proper Russian sounds really different from English, and the lip-wyncing is GREAT!

  • They reanimated the mouth to fit each language. Same for any of the classes "meet" videos.

  • I still think it's kind of odd how large the voice shift is between him talking and him laughing or shouting.

  • Who touch my baby

  • supposedly this guy has a phd in Russian literature.

so you'd expect him to be pretty eloquent in Russian.

  • WHO TRUGGU MY ACH TRACTOR!

  • WHAT! HIS WORDS HAVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MEANING! YOU CANT OUTSMART BULLER BUT YOU CAN BE SMARTER THAN IT!

  • sing while you can?

  • @Guyect He was talking to Sasha

  • ...someone that can outsmart boolit!

  • So beautiful <3

  • 00:48 thats just disturbing.

  • @Leatherbehlt

not really, my guns are my babies!

  • @Guyect that just makes it worse...

  • So 'baby' and 'gun' are synonymous in Russian? That's worrisome.

  • @kingkoolkyle no they made him sound smarter in russian to not insult them but hes still awesome

  • @kingkoolkyle No they are not, but Heavy likes his gun VEEEEERY much.

  • Oh man, that was COOL. Wish I knew how to spell... "kalamooshkazal." xD I fail at Russian forever.

  • Mafia Heavy!

  • You know...they probably just redid the oral movements to resynch with the vid...like they did with FF13. o3o

  • @Animus69 From what I've read, the engine can sync (and re-sync) automatically based solely on the sound file and a transcript. Don't know if they'd trust it enough to use it for trailers though.

  • In Soviet Russia, Heavy meets you!

  • sing while you can!

  • "Я - Спец по большим пушкам!"

  • 1:07 pyro fail lol

  • Sing while you can! I'm gonna remember that.

  • That's the best way to say "cool" EVER

  • Ё-маё! КТО ТРОГАЛ МОЮ КРОШКУ?!

  • I lol'd at "Cool."

  • Damn... and here I thought that in Soviet Russia, it cost $12 to fire this gun for 400,000 seconds.

  • I like how the Heavy has been updated slightly for their Russian version.

  • in soviet russia, heavy plays you

  • Russian Heavy in Russian. Fits much better. :P

  • Dot grokul mayul kroshku!?

  • Booleh

  • "who touched my baby!?"

it is confirmed, heavy is mama!

  • "Sasho?"

    Awesomeness.

  • "Sing while you can!"

That's almost even more badass than "Cry some more!"

  • " Im eta moja maluszka " xD

  • Это смешно, люди умнее его, но убить его пулями.

    Трудно быть умным, если мертв.

  • Синг Щхиле ёу цан!!!!!

  • padron= bullet

  • Did they change his facial animations too? His mouth looks dead on with the words hes saying

  • Yep, just look up the other 'Meet the' videos in other languages, German, Russian, Spanish, French, you'll find the mouth movements match. Not sure why, must be some advancement in facial animation.

  • It's actually been in existence for quite some time. Practically ALL lip syncing programs just listen to what the characters are saying and do the proper movements. Since they can know what mouth position one has to make to make a specific sound... String them together... Bam.

Of course, Valve do pay more attention to this and probably did this the hard way.

  • man they changed a lot of the dialogue

  • The heavy definitely sounds much smarter while speaking the language he was born with.

  • @Sparky245678 "Eloquent in My Native Tongue" sums it up pretty well.

  • SING WHILE YOU CAN

  • Comment removed

  • Gentlemenie

  • SING WHILE YOU CAN

  • They could've used a better voice actor, but it really fits him.

  • LOL sing while you can?I LIKE CRY SOME MOAR BETTER WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • i like how they adjusted the lip sync

  • lmfao, 'Cool.'

  • He laughs like a maniac!!! =D

  • Lol Laugh are orginal :D

  • The mouth movements are different depending on the language he's speaking.

A proof of really good lip-synching.

  • KTO TROGAL MAJU KROSHKU

  • SPY!

  • was awesome, but... but... the cry some moar?

  • To all the people saying they didn't put cry some more.

It would have sounded very stupid. Russian people do NOT talk like that.

  • sing while you can? man, they just killed cry some moar lol

  • Yeah..Cry some More doesn't sound cool in Russian. But still,I'm Russian and I can say that Russian Version Sux.I play with English one.

  • well he is russian, thats what makes it funny,is makeing it actually russian speaking heavy :P

  • "Sing while you can", instead of "Cry some more"? Interesting.

  • i wanted to hear him OM NOM NOM

  • Tbh russian version looks better synced than the english one ;p

  • The beard is the same thing.....

  • His gun is named Sasha? wow he's pretty....weird.

  • lol i thought it was Natascha =p

  • Natascha is the unlocked gun. Sasha is the default gun. =)

  • Oh lol =D

  • You know... the Russian version looks like it synchs up with the mouth. Was it orginally in russian? Sorry if Im a noob.

  • they first made it in english

but it does look pretty natural ;)

  • thats because they made this version sync with russian.

  • @israel3reak Looong time reply, but I think that is the Source engine itself. I read in an article that they used code that would enable the lip movements to synch up with a .wav file more naturally. If it was all done in source. Think about it, its not that hard, games like audiosurf come up with entire levels based on a quick analysis of a wav file.

  • Notice how the laugh is EXACTLY the same as english, and doesn't sound anything like the voice actor. So yes, it was english originally.

  • @KhmerDubbed Valve has technology that allows them to lip synch pretty much anything. This means that the english version and all the others have different lip synchs no matter what language they use.

    Pretty cool, huh?

  • @KhmerDubbed They sync the mouth to whatever language it's in.

  • @KhmerDubbed That's the benefit of computer animation: they reanimated the mouth to match the Russian

  • @KhmerDubbed Valve has naturally lip-synced all the officially translated "meet the"-videos. It's relatively easy and anyone with enough time/effort could do the same since they've released the tools :-)

  • @KhmerDubbed Nope, this is the same as the English version. It was just modified on Source Filmmaker to remove the English voice and lip synch, and both were replaced with the Russian voice.

  • @KhmerDubbed The redo the animation for all the different laguage trailer to synch along with what there saying.

  • @KhmerDubbed

Well, it is a 3D animation, so the would just reanimate it to sync the Russian voice.

  • @KhmerDubbed I know this is a REALLY late comment, but they re-render every video with the mouth movement for each language.

  • @KhmerDubbed I think they can do that with CGI. They do it with some CGI films from other countries that are sent to America. I think they can just send the files to whoever, and then the people who recieve the file just re-animates the mouths.

  • SING WHILE YOU CAN!

  • I like how they resynched the mouth

  • Хы...

  • WHO TOUCHED MY BABY?!

  • I don't think it was exactly a mistranslation. Sometimes its better to change around what the exact words are so that it makes more sense in the other language.

  • Meet the heavy in Arabic

    Meet the heavy in Japanese

    Meet the heavy in British

    Meet the heavy in Finnish

Meet the heavy in Spanish (voiced over by a mexican of course.)

This is gonna be so awesome...

  • THIS IS THE ORIGINAL HEAVY WEAPONS GUY

  • i think the intonation is better in english.

  • The heavy should have talked Russian even in the game. it suits him best.

  • sounds like a good idea

  • 100% Agree. Heavy in russian language sounds better...

  • WAY better.

  • it was translated by valve themselves!

of course the lipsync would be good

  • lololololololololol

  • What the hell does "Sing while you can" even mean?

  • To sing while you can means to enjoy your last moments alive, in a poetic sense.

  • This guy spoke perfect russian its the coolest thing, that was funny good job.

  • It's a big improvement, but I'm happy he doesn't talk like that in the game. I wouldn't understand anything!

  • Considering how the character sounds in english this makes him so much more bad ass! I love it!!!

  • Sorry, but this is funny!:)

  • Haha!!!! Welcome to Russia!!!! Super! Da, eto gestoko!

  • He's so fucking badass in Russian! XD

  • kleva skazal :D

  • HAHAHA that made my crack up so bad. "Hahaha... Cool."

  • hes like "haha....cool."+

  • I think it's an improvement! =D
