In 1987 I got to ride in Jimmy's '49 Merc. The car was housed at the Harrah's Car Museum in Reno. We had travelled many miles to Reno (from Montana) to see just that car. I was thrilled when the car's own mechanic released the velvet ropes and said, "C'mon, the boss said I'm supposed to take you for a spin." You could not have wiped the grin off my daughter's and my faces as we tooled around the parking lot, sitting just where Natalie sat...One happy memory, for sure. LS
@PONYBOY430 : I've talked with a few of his family members and a few others who actually knew Dean and they all laugh at that notion, pal. Funny, it wasn't until more recent years that this "bi-sexual" bullshit began spreading around. I'm sure if he were alive today, he'd laugh at the b/s too.
Thanks for subscribing to my Channel. I've returned the favor. One of these days I plan to record a sound video of my Mellowtone exhaust system...stay tuned.
Congrats! _ nice ride; have you ever noticed black is the best for 49-51 Merc's and 32 Ford coupes and roadsters because they are just flat-out works of art.
You Sir have THE car i have always dreamed of owning! A 1949 Murcury Coupe was the car that as a kid i had wanted more than anything else! I love that she is still rolling and looking like the work of art she is! keep the dream alive! (:
@warrenclarkable Thanks Warren for passing by and for the thumbs up. Yes the main difference between the 49 and the 50 is the dash. The 51 becomes different in the rear (taking from a "sedannete" approach)
@BenSHammonds you are surely right - no question about that - the thing is, at the time I did not have the right handles... now I have them, but the fact is that the ones in the car are better... so, when I finally bit the dust and the car goes for my children, they can decide which handle they are going to use... - THANKS FOR PASSING BY!
@rabydn Hello, I understand that :) I had a '51 a '54 and a '55 Montclair several years ago, I love Mercurys and always wanted a '49. You have a great car!!
Amigo que coisa linda, sou um grande Fã deste carro e do James dean Apesar de ser anos e anos depois dele, mas se tornou um icone. Leva este carro pra Àguas de Lindoia este ano .
If Dean had this tank the day he was killed that other asshole that hit him would of been killed instead of James....maybe not but he would of had a better chance to live then driving that speedster he was in.
it was not a speedster..it was a 550 spyder... but i have to agree with you on the point that if jimmy was driving this he would prob still be alive..or have lived a little bit longer
Thanks for your comments!!!! Nice to know you have good memories of your granpa, associated to this car. Congrats for your "channel", I'll pay a visit every now and then.
Beautiful car but to make it even closer to the original James Dean Merc put some wide whites on it =] of course if you arent going for that do whatever you want! haha
to squirrelnutcased: beautiful Merc.....yeh you are right....the James Dean one had the thick white walls.....remember in the movie one of the asshole thugs slashed the whitewall?

Nice. I would deck the hood and trunk. Like the one in the movie. What's the difference from the '49 and '50? The dash?

This '49 had the wrong door handles, they were the pull type in '49. The push button type came out on the '50.
