Save the envelope file as "ODF Text Document (.odt)". If you save as .DOC it will not save the address fields correctly.
To avoid empty lines for fields that don't exist, you can insert a hidden paragraph with a condition. There are lots of pages that explain how to do this. Google for "openoffice mail merge empty fields".
Thanks, Robbie. Helpful video. I should be able to export addresses from my Google contacts and then import them into OpenOffice calc in order to create the database you described. Let's see...
It is more easy to print address labels and envelopes online, using post[dot]aplicatiionline[dot]ro and all the contacts will be saved in the database. There you can see the address formats for every country to format the address correctly.
Brilliant, i was just resigning myself to writing out 500 addresses and thought i'd have a quick look on you tube to see if there was an easier way, thank you so much
Thank you, this was really helpful, I did have a good look around the help screens but couldn't find out how to print envelopes. Until finding your video my workaround was to copy the address, go into M$ Word and print the envelope from there (much to my distaste).
:) No problem. Glad you like it. We do tutorials like this regularly; you might enjoy my show, which is available online for free at our web site (see the ticker during the video).
Thank you so much ! You saved me a bundle of time - It is easier to see it done than to read it. :)

Thanks a lot for the guide.
I have a problem though, maybe someone can help.
When I import the database, fields with only numbers (US Zip Codes) show up blank. I tried formatting the cells and it doesn't work.
Anybody have a solution?
