As far as I can tell, Sephiroth's sword IS a big sword, but otherwise a normal sword (well, as normal as FF weapons go). The keyblade has extra powers to go with it--you could go a long way with the power of "un/locking things" depending on how you word it--and you can probably make a Sephiroth-appropriate keychain to recreate most of his normal sword type.
